cooling for a korean bbq! Smile Jan 22, 2012

Being used to smell like meat after a round of huge buffet gathering of korean BBQ, this new place just opened at the corner of marina square food court (hence the name THE CORNER PLACE doh) it was a coincidence to be invited with a colleague to have dinner there.

Boy oh boy did I went wild.

With the indoor setting and in the mall, the place was much cleaner, cooler, and much neater. For $25, it's cooling and it won't make you smell meat after. Placement was neat but only the tables were fairly too small to occupy what cookeeatmonster eats. tongue

The place to take your marinated meat and other carbo menu was minimal and clean, making it easy to know what is what, and what meat it is stated at the poster that labels which meat is what.

And the BBQ pit was ultra clean with the staff to change the aluminum foil each time the foil burns out, keeping your BBQ hygienic and edible and deliciously juicy. Service was pretty fast that night because there were lots of staff in hand while the place wasn't too crowded.

Samgyeopsal (pork belly) was juicy with the fresh cabbage with whole garlic just popping in your mouth with the soy paste is just... heavenly.

What's more is that for all K-pop fans, this is the place for you to gape and go fangirl as they always play the weekly music concerts on the big screen TV! Total heaven.

buy one get one coolatta Cry Jan 21, 2012

The Dunkin Coollata poster to buy and get one free was tempting me and fortunately, my friend to share.

Having selections of 4 different flavors, from blue colored berry to coffee, it was a surprise to not find 'chocolate coolatta' at all, after I asked so too.

In the end it was both coffee flavored for us. Compared to the DD in Indonesia, this one was much more watery and was too sweet for coffee, I ended up even more sleepy thereafter due to the high sugar levels! It was still a refreshing cool drink but I guess the taste was drowned in water...

Even if its in promo, it's not even the worth! Should make it more richer like how delicious it is back home in chocolate chip flavor!mad

Watami @ Raffles OK Jan 21, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Choosing a place where there ISN'T a Q on this particular weekday night, was this Japanese resto Watami.

My two friends were dying of hunger while I snacked away as I've eaten previously.

They ordered the regular set meal with all the Japanese things while I ordered french fries bucket (of all places, I know. But then again, this is so western!) and it came first, being in a bucket (cute tongue lol) but portion was tiny, and the tomato and mayo dip.

As for the main meal, altho no photo was taken, I tried here and there for the meal and I can generalize in one word: NORMAL.

Portion wise was smaller than the norm and the price was ravishingly high, I wonder why people still come around. Sister Waraku is so much better hands down.

And if again was a Jap resto with appetizers as western as French fries instead of fried taro, then you're in the wrong mix. But in general, the food is edible, good, but not too highly good.

The best well-kept public secret is noneother than the long-Q Western stall cuisine at the subsidized Koufu foodcourt at SMU University!

Best known for its big portion, hearty generous side dish and being priced for only around $5-6, it is the best steal for your buck and taste guaranteed while filling your tum with good things.

For all fans of deep fried fillets and patties, the most popular dish would be the fish and chips, giving a side dish of huge fillet fish fried in breaded crumbs, french fries and chopped cabbage smeared in mayo and ketchup. For $5, it is seriously the best find ever to find this huge portion of poultry/meat anywhere else, and it is not greasy either - fried just right and piping crispy hot!

Always a favorite for me to come, service is also generally quick to the minute as they know how long the Q can be.smile

One should know to make such business in the service industry. The food may be edible, good, or excellent that I could lick the plate over without any shame, but when the service lags badly because of one particular staff you might have missed to train, the entire experience of eating just drops down the drain.

To the service girl named Joan. By bumping into us without saying a word of sorry, scolding us instead of answering a simple question of "how long more do we have to wait, are there available tables yet" and slamming the chair and menus on our table, we are clearly not impressed.

You've messed with the wrong group of people where we have worked ourselves in this service industry.

Our meal came late as well, as it was fully loaded with a lot of people on this weekday evening was heavily packed for real. We queued for almost an hour straight with patience.

Chicken wings however were a bit of a cure, with sprinkles of pepper and salt, and it was tender and juicy.

Furious, we filled in the feedback form and personally gave it to the manager but yet she was also so busy that she didn't have time to even read. We left with rambling after Joan, but that doesn't mean its the entire team's fault. Only to that particular waitress that you probably didn't listen to your training well...sad
