Eighteen Chefs was started by Chef Benny Se Teo. My first encounter with Chef Benny was when he was still working in Goshen at the halfway house (which has been closed down). Even having been trained in Jamie Oliver's restaurant "Fifteen", his passion for giving second chances to ex-offenders was not doused out. In fact, he was more "on-fire" when he came back to Singapore still giving ex-offenders a chance in life.

This is more of a self-service restaurants. The friendly crew will bring you to your seat and then you write your order on the order chit. To confirm orders, simply make payment at the cashier and your orders will be served to you. Ice water, chilli sauce, tomato sauce, mustard, chilli flakes, cheese flakes, cutlery, napkins are all self-service.
Aglio Olio with mushroom chicken

Aglio Olio with mushroom chicken

This is a dish where aglio olio comes with grilled chicken topped with mushroom sauce. I love the juicy chicken. Quite disappointed with the aglio olio because it wasn't spicy like what I had in other restaurants. It wasn't the right taste even after I added chilli flakes. However, I have to say that the salad was fresh! ($12.80)
Fish and chips

Fish and chips

My partner ordered the Fish and Chips coz she wanted to try out the taste of what root beer battered fish and chips taste like. We didn't taste any root beer at all. The batter was crispy and the fish meat didn't have the fishy taste. Quite enjoy it. ($13.80)

Added $3.80 for the soup, garlic bread and homemade ice lemon tea. The soup is really creamy. It's just like Campbell soup without adding water. The ice lemon tea is too sweet for our taste so we added ice water into it. If you order the ice lemon tea alone (without the combo), it would cost $2.80.

I took half of whatever was on my friend's plate and gave her half of mine....so we can try out each other's food.

Price is reasonably and most importantly, no GST and service charge.

Xiao long bao

Xiao long bao

The xiao long bao is very juicy. One bite and the entire soup comes spilling out. Have to eat it while steaming hot. The meat is soft and easy on the throat. ($4.80)
Braised chicken feet

Braised chicken feet

Chicken feet has always been my must have dish whenever I visit a dim sum restaurant. I heard that this is the dish to eat if you want more collagen smile Anyway, I like how soft the chicken feet is being cooked. Just put into the mouth and the bones come out easily. ($4.60)
Fried beancurd skin with pork and crabmeat

Fried beancurd skin with pork and crabmeat

Didn't really like fried bean curd skin because I always thought they are normally too salty. However, this dish came to be quite different. Crispy on the outside and soft as well as chewy on the inside. Best part is that the saltiness is not present. ($4.20)
Steamed shrimp meat dumplings

Steamed shrimp meat dumplings

Har gao deep fried. Quite different from what I used to have in other dim sum restaurant which normally come steamed. This item is probably deep fried before steaming. Quite a unique way of presenting. ($4.80)
Steamed sharks fin dumplings

Steamed sharks fin dumplings

Didn't taste the sharks fin at all. I didn't even know that this dish contains sharks fin until the bill came. ($5.00)
Our feast

Our feast

The total bill for the 6 of us came up to $145 which of course the most expensive dish went to the BBQ meat combination plate which was $40.00. The service was really fantastic. The dishes were served slowly but the waiters would attend to us by topping up our teacups or taking orders in a flash.

Smooth beancurd Smile Dec 22, 2011

I heard someone mentioned that I have to try the soya bean curd in this stall so after a dinner one day, we decided to try for it. They have many interesting flavors to the bean curd, my friend has one which ginko nuts were added to it. Me, being my all time traditional self, decided to go for the normal one with nothing for sugar syrup added. I quite like the taste. The sweetness isn't overpowering and on top of that, the bean curd is really smooth. One spoonful in my mouth and it glides all the way down the throat. Would taste even better if the syrup has a slight gingery taste. But still, it's good!

Late dinner Smile Dec 14, 2011

This place is forever crowded...even till late at night. Good thing about Spize is that you don't have to look for your own seats. The staff will bring you to your seat when you tell them how many pax is dining. This stall serves everything...and I really mean everything! From western to eastern!

My partner ordered the chicken chop. I tried abit of it and thought the meat to be pretty tender. The sauce added flavors to the meat.

I had a craving for aglio olio on that day so I ordered the prawn aglio olio. Abit disappointed, I should say. Though the flavoring and the strong garlic taste is there, I find the pasta abit on the dry side. They should add more olive oil. Also, I prefer chilli padi to chilli flakes. But the prawns is fresh so I am complaining too much.

Great dessert Smile Dec 14, 2011

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Bars/Lounges | Pasta | Burgers and Sandwiches

Had a team lunch for the farewell of some colleagues and new joiners. We decided not to venture too far from our office at UOB building so we chose boat quay. One of my colleagues suggested Red Dot and since none of us have tried before, we decided to give it a try.

For main dish, I order sausage. I thought it would be something like Brewerkz...just sausages and some pickles. But it came with bread. The sausage were cut up and placed on top of the bread. I didn't like the taste at all. The fries wasn't too fantastic either.

For dessert, I had the strawberry panacotta. I love it. The taste wasn't too sweet and it just slides down my throat. Easy on my mouth.

I was told that the other must try is the brownie. So I tax some off my friend's place. I find it a little too sweet for my tongue. Would be suitable to those who love really sweet stuffs.

Service was quite fast. Maybe because we beat the lunch hour and turn up earlier than 12pm.
