Sabotening! Smile May 08, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant

With a history helm all the way from 1966, Saboten is one of Japan's largest Tonkatsu restaurant chain. The name "Saboten" means "Cactus" which is admired for it's ability to survive without water for at least 6 months. With the finest chefs and freshest ingredients, guests around the world get to enjoy quality and authentic Japanese food.

The cabbage was the first to be served. I heard that the cabbages were stored in the freezer and were sliced while still frozen. This is probably why the sweetness and freshness of the cabbages were retained. Since it's free flow, we did not hesitate to ask for top ups. It tasted really good. Tried the sesame sauce but didn't quite like it. I still like the yuzu vinegar sauce better.

Each of us are given a small bowl of sesame seeds where we are suppose to grind down. I remembered that I used to do that in another Japanese restaurant that sells ramen. This is definitely the first time I had to grind my own sesame for rice. Quite interesting though.

I ordered the tenderloin katsu set. The breaded pork tenderloin cutlet is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Tasted great even after leaving in the open for a while. ($22)

The green tea ice cream comes with the set. It has strong green tea taste and very smooth.

The entire set consists of sesame seed, rice, pork cutlet, pickled radish, refillable cabbage, refillable miso soup, refillable green tea (hot or cold) and one scoop of green tea ice cream.

Great service and would definitely visit again!!

Mango beer Smile May 08, 2012

Categories : Middle Eastern/Mediterranean

It was after our dinner and we decided to go somewhere to chill. Actually, somewhere where we can watch soccer. A friend suggested Nabins. The interior was most interesting. It has an Arabic flavor the moment you step into the reception area. The entire place makes it seems like you are in some Arabic country.

Being a lover of fruit beer, I decided to order the mango beer. The mango flavor is very strong so much as that it covered the beer taste that would otherwise be there. I hardly taste anything that resembles that of a beer. The sweetness is interesting! ($9.90)

Quality durian pancake Smile May 08, 2012

Walked past this shop while on my way to the train station. Realized that they sell durian pancake and ordered one to try. As I have tasted durian pancake from other places, I thought I would just order the big one ($2.50) to try.

The pancake was made on the spot.

While the pancake was still on the hot plate, thick durian paste from the fridge was spreaded onto the pancake.

Final product tasted really good. Warm on the outside due to the hot plate and cold on the inside because they kept the durian paste inside the fridge. I like how generous the servings of durian paste was.

HongKong delights Smile May 05, 2012

Walked past Kim Gary whenever I shop in Cold Storage but never get the chance to try. Finally decided to hop in because of the 1 for 1 offer after 9.30pm.

Kim Gary restaurant first opened it's doors in 1992 in Sham Shui Po (Tong Mei Road)...yes, it's near Ap Liu Street where you get your brand new and second hand techie products. From Hong Kong, they have since expanded to Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and Singapore (and still growing). They have brought in authentic Hong Kong taste to this very land.

I tried the hot and spicy noodles with pork chop when I was in JB so I thought it would be interesting to try the chicken wings one. I like the springy feeling of the noodles. It wasn 't over cooked. The soup base was also very yummy. There were 2 chicken wings (with the drum stick) included with the noodles. And I can say that the quality of their food is across the board (well, at least between JB and Singapore). $8.80

Sweet indulgence Smile Apr 29, 2012

A good way to spend some cozy evening chilling out would be a slice of sinful dessert from TCC.
Dark Devotion

Dark Devotion

Dark devotion is super sinful especially when the chocolate started oozing out of the cake. It is definitely too sweet to eat on it's own BUT when you take a spoonful together with the vanilla ice cream, you get a good blend. The vanilla ice cream actually helped to equalize the over powerful sweetness of the molten chocolate.
Special breakfast tea

Special breakfast tea

As a huge lover of English breakfast tea, it wouldn't be surprising that I ordered the special breakfast tea. The tea is very thick but I like how I can keep topping up hot water. The quaintly tea set make the experience all the more enjoyable. I prefer see through tea cups than those white porcelain type.
