Fish Soup Cry Aug 22, 2013
Categories : Teochew | Hawker Centre

Recently I have been trying to eat more healthily outside so I try to order soup based dishes if I eat out. I saw this hawker centre selling fish soup, so I made that my dinner choice. There is no queue so I was able to get my order very quickly. The fish soup costs $4, rice is at an additional 50 cents. I added another bowl of rice for my little niece to eat. The fish soup did not really look very appetitsing and I guess the appearance of the food does matter as I felt the taste is not there. The fish slices are tough to the bite and the amount given is also quite little. I counted only around 6 slices of fish and the slice is quite small as well. The soup also has tomato slices, some lettuce and tofu. The tofu is also very little, only two small cubes. I would think it is not worth the $4 paid for the soup.

Spending per head: Approximately $4

Too salty Cry Aug 17, 2013

I am not sure what made me buy this but I got it without thinking as I wanted a quick bite on something that is filling. I have not indulged in this fried carrot cake since a very long time ago, so it immediately caught my eye. I remember buying this from the roadsides when I was little. This costs 90 cents. The carrot cake is still warm when I bought it so that helped in enhancing the taste. Fried food is always better when ate warm rather than cold. However, I find that the carrot cake is quite salty and it is hard to finish the entire piece. Also, the flour ratio is too much, making it quite hard. I only ate half before I found it too be unbearingly salty. I guess it is hard to find those street side carrot cakes that are soft and not so salty any longer.

Disappointing food and service Cry Aug 05, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

On the outside, it seems like this restaurant serves nice food as the restaurant is quite filled up during the lunch hours. This is also why we decided to eat here instead of going to other restaurants. The decor is nice as it tries to recreate the feeling of being in bangkok with themed tables. However, the food and service is a large disappointment.

We ordered the red tom yum soup $7.90, phad thai $11.50 and a papaya salad $10 to share among the two of us. The tom yum soup came first and then we had to wait for 15 minutes before the other two dishes came, even though we had asked for our orders twice. It is really bad service. Moreover, the soup was not served hot and the ingredients are very little, there is only two fish slices, two prawns, two straw mushrooms and one tiny sliced tomato. It is very overcharged. By then we had already lost our appetite for eating with the long wait and I did not bother to photograph the phad thai and papaya salad when we saw how tiny the portion was.

As for the taste of the dishes, I thought it is just average and the taste is something you can easily get outside in food courts selling thai food. The only thing which really saved the meal a little is the phad thai, I felt that it is moist enough and it has a mix of savory and sweetness. The texture of the rice noodles is great as well, it is quite like those that you can find in Bangkok. However, with all the measly portions and long waiting time, I will not come back a second time.

cheese and ham Cry Mar 10, 2013
Categories : Bakery

I got this cheese and ham bread from Bread Talk on my way back to the MRT station. Actually I wanted to get the floss bread, but the floss looks very little to me, which is why I got this bread in the end. I havent tried it before and upon biting into it, I find that it is very normal. I can taste more of the cheese than the ham because the cheese is quite a lot The bread is also unlike the floss bread, it is not as fluffy. Moreover, the price is higher than neighbourhood bakeries as well. I will probably not buy this again since it taste just like those breads neighbourhood bakeries are selling at for $1.

almond paste Cry Mar 03, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Yesterday after lunch, I had dessert at Ji De Chi. I went for something hot, their

which costs $3. I realise if you order pastes, the paste will be served to you more quickly than other desserts. The other table beside me which ordered the cold desserts had their desserts served to them later than me. The almond paste is quite a disappointment. It was rather watered down and the almond flavour is not as strong as what I would like it to be. I will probably not order this again in future.
