San lao hor fun Smile Aug 19, 2013

Yesterday to watch the National Day Rally at home, we got takeaways of our dinner back home. I bought for myself the san lao hor fun $4.50 from this zi char stall. The san lao hor fun is the hor fun with sliced fish, beansprouts and spring onions. It is flavoured with salt and light soya sauce to retain its white colour. The portion of the san lao hor fun is quite a lot. There are around 8 slices of fish in the packet and the fish slices are rather tender but firm. It does not break easily when I was stirring apart the hor fun. The hor fun is well fried without being too greasy and the gravy is also not too thick or sticky. There is also a very generous portion of beansprouts. I love beansprouts so I am more than happy to mix them in and eat it as a whole, but not my hubby who detests beansprouts. Overall, I would say this stall's san lao hor fun is worth it to buy.

awesome BBQ chicken and stingray Smile Aug 19, 2013

This seafood stall is quite large, occupying two stall areas. There are quite a lot of people ordering from them and since we had a group of 6, we decided to try their food. We ordered two plates of chicken drumsticks and one plate of stingray to share among the 6 of us. The order took around 20 minutes to arrive.

The chicken drumsticks are quite tiny but it is full of flavour. The chicken skin is really crisp and the meat are juicy and tender. I really liked the seasoning of the chicken drumsticks, it isn't just all salty flavour, but there is also some sweetness in it. The stingray also good. It is fried so the exterior is slightly crisp and the interior of the flesh is moist and tender. The fish is fresh and this makes eating the fish together with the sambal chilli especially tasty. The chili is very spicy so those who have lower spice tolerance, remember not to smear too much if not your tongue will be burnt. Total is around $38 if I remember correctly, we had ordered other food from other stalls and add everything to derive at how much each should pay, so I did not really take note how much each individual plate cost.

Lovely lunch Smile Aug 19, 2013

Last weekend, I went to Jack's Place for lunch together with my hubby. Their lunch sets are priced quite attractively. For a little more than $10, you get the main dish, garlic bread, tea/coffee and dessert. I ordered the sirloin steak which costs $15.90. The steak was done exactly the way I wanted it to be, medium to well done which is great. Sometimes it came out too bloody, but the steak I ate last weekend was good, there is no blood when I cut it and the steak is quite tender as well even with its thickness. The accompanying sauce complements the steak well. The baked potato is something which I enjoy a lot at Jack's Place as they will put mayo on the potato and top it with bacon bits and spring onions which made it very tasty from the smoothness of the mayo and saltiness of the bacon bits. Try out Jack's Place if you want affordable and value for money lunch sets!

Italian pasta  Smile Aug 19, 2013

I went to OChre last month together with my family. The place is quite posh and high class so it is an ideal place to bring your date if you want to impress her. The ambiance is also great as it is at the 11th storey of Orchard Central and the views are very nice if you take the window seats.

We ordered two pastas to share as well as rocket salad. We requested for smaller plates since we wanted to try different food on the menu. The two pastas that we got are really delicious. I especially loved the Fettuccine $48. The noodles texture is something like the mee pok but this is the high class mee pok that we are eating. The flavours from the wine, chili and basil are well absorbed into the pasta and it is very smooth to eat. The lobster meat in the Fettuccine is also fresh. However, it is quite expensive though, but the taste is really good. The other pasta we ordered is the squid ink pasta ~$28. After eating the Fettuccine, this seems to be quite sub par because our taste buds have adjusted to the rich taste of the Fettuccine. Also, the pasta seemed to be slightly dry, maybe it could do with more sauce. Overall, it is an enjoyable italian meal.

Seafood horfun OK Aug 18, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop | Zi Char

It is my first time eating here as I do not stay around the area. I didn't know what to eat, so I simply followed the crowd and ordered from the stall which has the longest queue which is the zi char stall.

There are the usual types of dishes you can find in zi char stalls and I ordered the seafood hor fun which costs $4. The wait is rather long, around 25 minutes and when the order came, I was already quite hungry. The hor fun is a little clumpy as most of the hor fun are all sticking to each other. I found eating it with a spoon is easier than with a pair of chopsticks. The hor fun is also adequately salted with dark sauce and salt and the gravy is also not too thick/starchy. The ingredients given are quite alright for the price, two prawns, some sliced meat, fishcake, vegetables and egg. Overall, it is quite nice but not really worth the long wait since it is quite normal tasting.
