BBQ Chicken Chop Cry Aug 25, 2012

Was hungry after shopping at Bugis Street so decided to buy the BBQ Chicken chop at I <3 Taimei. After ordering I had to wait for like 5 full minutes...which I consider a little too long for a street store since you're basically standing there waiting to leave. It took so long because the chicken chop had to be dipped in the flour and crust, then be fried, and then barbecued.

It definitely wasn't worth the wait. Firstly, they cut it up in HUGE chunks that are impossible to finish within 2 bites. Secondly, the chicken is dry. Lastly, the chicken has bones. Like seriously, who actually buys chicken chop with bones to eat while on the go? However, the BBQ taste is very authentic and unique to I <3 Taimei.

Although I did enjoy the taste, it was too much hassle and I definitely not will buy it again. Just FYI, it was only $4.00 for a really huge piece of chicken chop.

Shoyu Tonkotsu Ramen OK Aug 25, 2012   (Related Review)

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

I personally love Men-ichi's ramen but never tried the Shoyu Tonkotsu, or their char siew. The soup is similar to the tonkotsu soup, thick and sweet, and seriously I don't notice the shoyu (soy sauce) taste. The char siew definitely isn't the best ramen char siew I've had. Its the typical fatty char siew served in most Japanese restaurants which I absolutely dislike.

However, as usual, the ramen is springy and goes well with the soup. Overall, as a frequent customer, I was disappointed by the ramen. The soup was not too different and I threw away all the char siew after the first bite. Men-ichi has a wide selection of tasty ramen, so I'd recommend something else like Curry Cheese Ramen or Teriyaki Salmon (tonkotsu) ramen.

Carbonara pasta Smile Aug 25, 2012

Ordered for the carbonara pasta at Delifrance. Its topped off with chicken ham. The chicken ham is relatively thin, not too salty and honestly pretty tasteless. The sauce is creamy but very "light" in the sense that its not too heavy on the taste. Also, the sauce sticks to the pasta, which I personally find very important to make a pasta good.

Overall, its a very light tasting pasta but tasty. It doesn't feel fattening at all but filling. However, I probably will not recommend it to friends who prefer food with thick taste.

Japanese Fish and Chips Smile Aug 24, 2012

Decided to drop by Clementi Mall for lunch with classmates. Tried the Japanese Fish and Chips from Fish & Co for the first time. It is stuffed with Furikake (Sesame seed, seaweed etc.) and mozzarella cheese. Its topped off with lemon butter sauce and seaweed. Comes along with Japanese soba sauce to dip the fish in (also served with tartar sauce).

I was pretty surprised when on the first cut. The stuffing in the fish just oozed out. I did try it again at Jurong Point's outlet and the stuffing was more chewy instead of liquid-like as Clementi's outlet. Either way, both styles are good. I like the unique stuffing and dipping it in the soba sauce. The soba sauce is relatively weak tasting at Clementi's outlet (it tastes a lot saltier at Jurong Point's) so its not easy to get sick of it. Personally I prefer dipping it in soba sauce than tartar.

It was a student meal that costs nett $9.50. Comes along with a regular soft drink (Selection of coke, sprite, koala tonic). I'd recommend koala tonic since we can get coke and sprite everywhere. Pretty good deal considering the ala carte price of the fish and chips will be $15.95. Do give it a try!

Chicken Pomodoro  Smile Aug 23, 2012

Categories : Pasta | Halal

I'll normally have the Chicken Pomodoro pasta when I dine at Pizza Hut (Basically b/c they have a VERY limited selection of chicken pasta). Its basically linguine topped with red pomodoro sauce with roasted chicken strips, green peas and sliced olives.

I especially like their red pomodoro sauce because it isn't too sweet and the amount of sauce they use is just-right. Not too much or too little so I didn't get sick of it halfway through. The roasted chicken is exactly the same kind as served in chicken royal baked pasta as well as those pizzas that serve roasted chicken. I personally like the roasted chicken taste. Not a big fan of green peas and sliced olives so I usually request for no vegetables.

Anyway, Pizza Hut started to offer pasta delivery service not long ago and I decided to try ordering Chicken Pomodoro through the service. Turns out its served the same way as Pastamania, ie. with a bowl containing the sauce and a top level separating the pasta from the sauce.
