Chicken chop set OK Oct 24, 2011
Categories : Food Court | Pasta | Brunch

I had the chicken chop set which came with fries, baked beans and coleslaw. The chicken chop was pretty average and thankfully not too dry. There's nothing too special about the sauce used but I like the hint of pepper taste. For a regular western stall, I have to say their fries were pretty well-fried. I do not like the kind of fries they use to be too soft or too hard and they served it exactly the way I like it. (Its probably my luck though. My sister had very over-fried ones). The plates they use are overly big which made it really hard to share those small Kopitiam table with my family.

Anyway, it was very average and not too filling. Probably not worth the money.

Fishball noodles Smile Oct 24, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Food Court

The fishball noodles from this stall is pretty good when you have it there. Like other noodles soup, the noodles tend to be soggier when left in the soup for a long period of time. Anyway, I like the fact that they don't use the overly large fishballs which many stalls are using right now and I'm not a big fan of that. Also, the soup isn't too oily and doesn't really stink of the yellow noodle taste. Overall, its cheap and relatively good. Whenever I'm at the market nearby, I'd normally have the fishball noodles from this stall.

Sweet and Spicy Pork Smile Oct 22, 2011   (Related Review)

I've never noticed this dish before the new menu Mayim has introduced. Its sweet and sour shredded pork garnished with shredded onion. What caught my eye was how the sweet and sour pork was shaped. Its kind of like fries instead of those irregular circle shaped sweet and sour pork.

It took around 20 minutes before it was served, which is pretty annoying considering they had served the rice 10 minutes before. It is probably one of the most disappointing Mayim dishes. Because of the way its shaped, there isn't must meat in it. Its mostly oil, sauce and crust. It didn't take long before I got sick of it.

Overall, it was a pretty good serving. It'd be good to share among two people. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the dish but my mother really liked it. It costs $8..80 and it wouldn't hurt to try! smile

The strawberry butter cream puff is probably one of the most unique puffs Chewy Junior has to offer. The thick strawberry jam is sweet and really tasty. However, the strawberry butter cream was very creamy. Thankfully, the taste of butter isn't too strong. The puff is soft, with sweet cream in it. Its a pretty fancy snack for a light meal. I do recommend it.

Mint cake Smile Oct 22, 2011

After trying the cake from Angie the Choice for the first time in a long time recently, I specially dropped by Tiong Bahru Plaza to get the Mint Cake that many of my friends and family have recommended.

I bought two slices..and as usual, because of the oversized box used, the small slice of cake moved around in it and is squashed on the sharp edge. Its probably something Angie the Choice should rethink about.

Anyway, it was my first time having a mint cake. The taste was unique. It wasn't too minty..which is always good for me since I don't like mints that are too minty. The cake was soft and the cream wasn't too thick. I thought it was pretty all right. My mother, who has had it before, mentioned that it tasted a little different from before, in a negative way.

Overall, I wouldn't say its as delicious as those people who recommended it to me, but it was pretty average and special. I don't see mint cakes around often and wouldn't hesitate to try it again.
