German Sausages Smile Sep 28, 2011
Categories : German | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

I had a Grilled Pork Sausage at Brotzeit over the weekend during lunch and it was great. The dish consisted of 5 pork sausages, mashed potato and Sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is German for sour cabbage. Its basically thinly shredded boiled cabbage soaked in some kind of sour sauce. I loved the sausages though 5 is a bit too many sausages for me. But i was informed by my friend that the sauerkraut is meant to be taken with the sausages so that you wouldn't find 5 sausages far too much meat than you can handle. The mash potato was also very nice - i loved the sauce. And it also went well with the sauerkraut. In the end while i did manage to finish all the sausages and the mash potato, i think sauerkraut is one vegetable i can do without.

Prata for supper OK Sep 28, 2011
Categories : Indian | Coffeeshop | Halal

The Cheese Prata shop is a favourite supper hang out of residents and students living near NUS. It sells a variety of pratas, murtabaks, rice dishes etc. typical indian food basically. While it is often quite full, i have never seen a que there before, probably because the customer turnover rate is quite high as most order simple dishes like prata and teh.

My friend and i ordered a milo dinosaur each($2), a tissue prata ($1.50) and a Pattaya chicken($5.50). The tissue prata was good, it was crispy and did not have too much sugar on it. My milo dinosaur was not thick enough, it tasted a little bit too watery and they were stingy with the milo powder on top as well. The pattaya chicken was very fragrant though the portion was humongous, we couldn't finish the mountain of rice.

Recommended Dish(es):  Tissue Prata, Egg Prata

Spending per head: Approximately $5.50(Supper)

McDonald breakfast Smile Sep 28, 2011

Theres a new mcdonald breakfast that was launched recently - Breakfast Deluxe Supreme. It consists of a typical big breakfast of scrambled eggs, muffin and sausage, with an addition to 2 slices of hotcakes and 2 slices of turkey bacon.

My friend and i ordered both the big breakfast set and the breakfast deluxe supreme to share. In my opinion, the breakfast deluxe supreme was definitely enough for the two of us, the plate was so full! The turkey bacon wasnt as tough and dry as it looked, in fact it tasted very much like normal bacon. Overall i think mcdonald's fans should ditch the big breakfast and try this instead.

As you can see, in comparison, our typical big breakfast looked miserable.

TGIF OK Sep 28, 2011
Categories : Fusion | Restaurant

TGIF is located in Heeren, a pretty visible 2 story establishment with indoors dining on the second floor and outdoor dining with cool seats on the 1st story. It basically sells lots of steaks, pasta and drinks and caters to mainly an office crowd. It starts to get crowded on fridays and the weekends of course.

I had a Blackened Chicken Alfredo when i was there. Its a cream sauce pasta topped with chicken breast meat and lots and lots of tomatoes. I loved the chicken because it was juicy and tasted slightly burnt just the way i liked it. I did not enjoy the pasta sauce however because it was too creamy.

For drinks i had a strawberry surprise. It was refreshing especially when paired with the creamy pasta i ordered. And it even came with a big fat juicy strawberry at the side!

Cafe in NTU OK Sep 28, 2011
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pasta

Cafe al fresco is located along the route of NTU's shuttle bus D route at the International House. You can take the shuttle bus from Pioneer MRT station into the campus and stop at the Admin Office building in NTU. Shuttle buses take about 10-15 minutes to arrive except on weekends where the timing isn't as regular.

Cafe al fresco is basically, as the name suggests, a non air-conditioned cafe, rather small with few seats and it is seldom full so you need not worry about not getting a table. They offer western and asian dishes, the best, in my opinion, being their sandwiches and vietnamese coffee. Something to note is that they are closed by 4pm on Saturdays and not opened on Sundays so if you're travelling from outside of the campus in to try it out on saturdays, do come earlier.
