McDonald breakfast Smile Sep 28, 2011

Theres a new mcdonald breakfast that was launched recently - Breakfast Deluxe Supreme. It consists of a typical big breakfast of scrambled eggs, muffin and sausage, with an addition to 2 slices of hotcakes and 2 slices of turkey bacon.

My friend and i ordered both the big breakfast set and the breakfast deluxe supreme to share. In my opinion, the breakfast deluxe supreme was definitely enough for the two of us, the plate was so full! The turkey bacon wasnt as tough and dry as it looked, in fact it tasted very much like normal bacon. Overall i think mcdonald's fans should ditch the big breakfast and try this instead.

As you can see, in comparison, our typical big breakfast looked miserable.

Pizzeria Mozza Smile Sep 28, 2011

Categories : Italian | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

Pizzaeria Mozza is a lovely place in Marina Bay Sands with great pizza and beautiful desserts. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with a homely interior, lots of wood and interesting menus.

Even your utensils come in an envelope!

When we went on a weekday for lunch, it was pretty crowded and it was only because we had a reservation that we got a seat.
For the pizza, we ordered a Bacon, salami, fennel sausage, pancetta, tomato & mozzarella.

The toppings were very generous, and the mix of bacon, salami, sausage and cheese did not make the pizza too salty. The crust was nice and crispy even when the pizza cooled down. We would have preferred the pizza served sliced but perhaps we should have requested for that while ordering.

As for desserts, we had a Butterscotch budino, Maldon sea salt & rosemary pine nut cookies and a strawberry ice cream concotion (whose name i forgot).

The butterscotch was very very sweet, great for those with a sweet tooth but for others, it would be better to share this with your dining partner because halfway through all the butterscotch was starting to get to me. The strawberry dessert was a great compliment for the butterscotch because it was refreshing and not too sweet. I loved the almond flakes on top - unlike many other restaurants, their was still crunchy.

overall a delightful place for lunch at MBS!

Spending per head: Approximately $30(Lunch)

Lai Lai Beef Noodles Smile Sep 26, 2011

This outlet of Lai Lai is located at the ground floor of NEX near to the bus stop. Its wasn't very crowded at the time we visited which was in the afternoon. Both my friend and i ordered their Lai Lai Beef Noodles. It comes in 3 sizes, and for girls, stick to small because their small isn't very small after all. And for guys, stick to medium because my guy friend was very full after polishing off their medium size. There are 4 types of noodles to choose from: Taiwan noodle, glass noodle, kwey tiao and potato noodle. Taiwan noodle is the thick white noodle, something like a thicker version of ban mian. Potato noodle is a transparent rather chewy flat noodle. I've tried all 4 so far and i liked the potato noodle for its chewy rubbery texture, but i've been told its not a favourite with everybody. Most people around me order taiwan noodles that day. What i like best about lai lai's beef noodle is its soup which i never fail to finish. The beef normally comes with lots of tendon and theres a generous portion of bean sprouts as well.

Mango Snow Ice Smile Sep 26, 2011
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Ji De Chi is a small chinese dessert cafe in Jurong Point. It sells hot desserts such as sesame paste and peanut paste, cold desserts such as mango jelly and mango snow ice. (there are other flavours such as durian and passionfruit).

Mango jelly is a dish of ice, mango cubes, grass jelly cubes and sago. Its is very nice and sweet but not something you want to take if you are thirsty because it makes you even more thirsty! Mango snow ice is rather similar in that theres mango cubes and nata de coco cubes and sago, but its topped with some sort of flaky ice that melts instantly in your mouth. I recommend flattening the flaky ice because the flavour is strong when its more compact. When its not as compact, firstly its harder to scoop and secondly it melts before you can really taste the mango.

As the place is rather small, there might be queues sometimes but it clears really fast. i waited for less than 10 minutes in a queue of 3 couples before me.

Ootoya Smile Sep 26, 2011
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Sushi/Sashimi

Ootoya is a really lovely japanese restaurant at Orchard Central. The restaurant is divided into two sections, one where you dine on tables and chairs, and another where you take off your shoes and sit on the floor. The staff there are all very friendly, i've been there 3 times and all 3 times they never fail to greet you with lots of enthusiasm. And on our latest visit, one waiter even announced "this one old customer!".

My favourite dishes there are their sashimi set which is very fresh. And their hamburger steaks - the sweet sauce is delicious. The set also comes with miso soup, rice, mash potato and some small side dish of chicken, mushroom and vegetables. The only thing i didn't like was the chicken side dish because it had a weird smell to it (i guess its some extra ingredient in the sauce that i wasn't used to).

Overall Ootoya is a great place to come in small groups because of the seating arrangements and because it tends to get crowded during meal times so the outlet probably can't accommodate big groups anyway. Also don't wear short skirts if you plan to sit on the floor.
