Pu Tien @ Marina Sq Smile Sep 16, 2011

Categories : Fujian/Heng Hwa | Seafood

Pu Tien can never go wrong in my book. It always achieves consistency in all my favourite dishes, regardless of visit or outlet. This time round i was at Putien @ Marina Square for a gathering with my old school mates. I must say this outlet is not very suitable for gatherings because firstly its a very small place. Secondly, they only have a couple of big round tables which are usually already reserved (do reserve because then you can skip the inevitable queues, especially if you are coming in a group of more than 4). The best they could do was squeeze 6 of us into one seating and the rest at another part of the restaurant.

Food wise my favourite dish this time was the sweet and sour pork - it wasn't too soggy or too fatty and the sauce was marvelous. The dry meesua was up to standards as usual, though if you have 6 people like us then you might want to order more to feed everybody.

Seafood Platter @ Fish & Co. Smile Sep 16, 2011

In my opinion, the 2 dishes that you cannot go without trying while dining at FIsh and Co. are:

(1) Their fish and chips - any of the versions. Though my personal favourite is, quite literally,"The Best Fish and Chips in Town!" The fish had just a thin layer of batter over it, which was certainly much better than having fish coated in too much batter such that you taste more batter than fish

(2) Their Seafood Platter (see below). We ordered a seafood platter for 2 which consists of a bed of rice (not sure what they did to their rice but its very fragrant) topped with a variety of seafood such as prawns, fish, mussels, calamari.

Everything we ate was very fresh and the portions were enough for 3 of us. We shared fish and chips and the platter and there wasn't enough space left for dessert after that.

Recommended Dish(es):  Seafood Platter, The Best Fish and Chips in Town

Toast Box @ Clementi Mall Smile Sep 15, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

I had the ham and cheese toast set which consists of 2 halves of a ham and cheese toast and either coffee or tea for $3. The ham and cheese toast was very good. The toast was made up of 2 slices of well toasted gardenia white bread spread with butter, 2 slices of ham sandwiched inbetween 2 slices of cheese.

The decor at this outlet was quite interesting, we had fun looking around. There was big mirror and several small paintings on the walls.

My only complaint was the food took very long to arrive. We were done with our coffee even before the toast came and we had to go to the counter to ask for the toast twice before it was finally served to us.

Recommended Dish(es):  Ham and Cheese Toast

Spending per head: Approximately $3(Tea)

Lip smacking bak kut teh Smile Sep 13, 2011

This is one of the best bak kut teh i've ever eaten in Singapore. Though its really crowded, and food takes a rather long time to be served, and it gets very hot in the coffeeshop so we perspired like mad while slurping down the soup, it was all worth it.

We ordered bak kut teh and pig organ soup. I wasn't fond of pig organ soup in the first place, but this one was actually alright. It wasn't as smelly and there wasn't too much pepper in it. The bak kut teh was fantastic. There were many pieces of pork rib inside, the soup was so addictive i finished off the entire bowl and it also had just the right amount of pepper inside, unlike many other stalls i've tried.

Recommended Dish(es):  Bak Kut Teh

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Lunch)

Great salad @ Brotzeit Smile Sep 10, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : German | Bars/Lounges

Most people order sausages at Brotzeit but I had a crispy chicken salad instead and it really trumps all other salads i've ever had. Though be warned that if your aim of eating salad is to go on a diet, this is not a salad you should consider. Their portions are quite substantial, it took me some time to finish the mountain of vegetables. and the chicken is fried, so not exactly diet friendly. The chicken remained crispy throughout my meal despite the moisture from the leaves and that was really impressive. Presentation was very pretty also!
