Great Beef Noodles Smile Apr 30, 2012

Lai Lai's beef noodle is one of the nicest beef noodles i've tried in Singapore. And Lai lai's outlet in NEX has become a favourite haunt of my family, especially on weekends. Business at the NEX outlet is brisk but you seldom have to wait too long for a seat inside. Food is also served very fast. The beef noodles can be taken dry or soup. Personally i prefer the dry version (they still provide a small bowl of soup anyways). They are also very generous with their beef chunks though sometimes there might be more fat than meat.

Chili crab  Smile Mar 26, 2012

Categories : Seafood

We ordered Jumbo’s signature dish: the Jumbo Chili Crab, and of course we would not have forgetten to order the must-have side dish – fried man tou. What I like about Jumbo’s chili crab is the sauce. It isn’t far too spicy and oily like many chili crab dishes in Singapore, and it is unique to jumbo.

Moreover, the crabs are always fresh and the served with their shells cracked slightly, making your life easier when struggling to crack open the crabs.

Additionally, you can buy the packaged version of jumbo’s chili crab sauce back home to try and prepare your own home cooked jumbo chili crab. We bought 2 of the packages ( 1 chili and 1 black paper), but have yet to try them out.

Best fish head curry in town Smile Mar 22, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indian | Restaurant | Curries

As the title says, Karu's really does have the best fish head curry in town in my opinion. Its curry is not too spicy yet not too bland, it serves a generous portion of vegetables in its curry and i have never found their fish to be unfresh.

They also sell pappadam (indian cracker) in packages of 18-20 uncooked pieces for $1. All you have to do is deep fry them before starting on the fish head curry and you will get fresh crispy pappadam to go with the curry.

One reason why i always take away is because your clothes and hair will smell of the curry after a meal there. Do remember to bring your own pot there if you are taking away because it will save you the extra money for the extra large container necessary to house the gigantic fish head.

Chicken Rice Smile Sep 28, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Chinese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice | Kids-Friendly

I've always heard raving reviews about Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice - and when i went to try it, it did not disappoint me. Wee Nam Kee is small open air chicken rice establishment opposite velocity in novena. Its normally crowded in the evenings but food is served very fast so you need not wait too long. The chicken rice is the best part, very fragrant and when eaten with chilli, garlic and black sauce, its so good you can eat it on its own. The chicken was good because it was tender, but bad because it could have been a little less fatty.

Lai Lai Beef Noodles Smile Sep 26, 2011

This outlet of Lai Lai is located at the ground floor of NEX near to the bus stop. Its wasn't very crowded at the time we visited which was in the afternoon. Both my friend and i ordered their Lai Lai Beef Noodles. It comes in 3 sizes, and for girls, stick to small because their small isn't very small after all. And for guys, stick to medium because my guy friend was very full after polishing off their medium size. There are 4 types of noodles to choose from: Taiwan noodle, glass noodle, kwey tiao and potato noodle. Taiwan noodle is the thick white noodle, something like a thicker version of ban mian. Potato noodle is a transparent rather chewy flat noodle. I've tried all 4 so far and i liked the potato noodle for its chewy rubbery texture, but i've been told its not a favourite with everybody. Most people around me order taiwan noodles that day. What i like best about lai lai's beef noodle is its soup which i never fail to finish. The beef normally comes with lots of tendon and theres a generous portion of bean sprouts as well.

Recommended Dish(es):  Beef Noodle

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Lunch)
