Toast Box @ wisma OK Sep 30, 2011
Categories : Singaporean | Coffeeshop

This outlet is very small with few tables and really long que that tends to slow down human traffic along the narrow stretch outside Forever 21 at Wisma Atria's basement. I wanted to have a coffee in the afternoon on saturday but despite hopes that i might be able to avoid the lunch crowd, i still had to stand in the que for about 15 minutes. The coffee was served within a short while after ordering. We did not stay long at Toast Box in the end because the outlet was rather noisy not just because there were many patrons but because its location, there were many passerbys. The long que outside also pricked our guilty conscience and made us hurry up.

Steamboat @ Bugis OK Sep 30, 2011
Categories : Sichuan | Steamboat/Hot Pot

Chuan yi pin is located opposite bugis junction, along the road side. It offers grill and steamboat and can acommodate large groups (We had 20). Its really a DIY steamboat and grill because they don't marinate the meat but they provide you with a variety of sauces for you to mix and then marinate your meat before grilling it. We tried mixing all types of chilli and garlic and then grilling fish and mushrooms with the mix on top - not a bad combination. As for drinks - they offer many types of soft drinks though we weren't sure root beer came out as water! Service was generally prompt, our gas went out twice during the dinner and the waiter was very helpful and efficient. HOwever, the chef at the buffet counter slicing the meat for us was very bad tempered and while i was at the counter, he scolded almost everybody around us!

Spending per head: Approximately $21(Dinner)

Dessert Bowl @ Serangoon OK Sep 30, 2011
Categories : Chinese Desserts | Desserts and Cakes

Dessert bowl is located on the 2nd floor of one of the shophouses near chomp chomp. Inside, you will find many miniature replications of food streets in hongkong. If you're early or very lucky you might get seats beside the window where there are big sofas and a nice view. Normally its very crowded on weekends but on weekday nights finding a seat wouldn't be much of a problem.

i had their mango pomelo dessert which is mango puree topped with sago, pomelo and mango cubes. I wished they had given more pomelo because too much of mango puree was hard to down without the bitter pomelo bits complementing it. I also had their durian dessert which was great at first but honestly half way through the bowl it didn't taste that marvelous afterall.

Chicken Rice Smile Sep 28, 2011

Categories : Hainanese | Chinese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice | Kids-Friendly

I've always heard raving reviews about Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice - and when i went to try it, it did not disappoint me. Wee Nam Kee is small open air chicken rice establishment opposite velocity in novena. Its normally crowded in the evenings but food is served very fast so you need not wait too long. The chicken rice is the best part, very fragrant and when eaten with chilli, garlic and black sauce, its so good you can eat it on its own. The chicken was good because it was tender, but bad because it could have been a little less fatty.

German Sausages Smile Sep 28, 2011
Categories : German | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

I had a Grilled Pork Sausage at Brotzeit over the weekend during lunch and it was great. The dish consisted of 5 pork sausages, mashed potato and Sauerkraut. Sauerkraut is German for sour cabbage. Its basically thinly shredded boiled cabbage soaked in some kind of sour sauce. I loved the sausages though 5 is a bit too many sausages for me. But i was informed by my friend that the sauerkraut is meant to be taken with the sausages so that you wouldn't find 5 sausages far too much meat than you can handle. The mash potato was also very nice - i loved the sauce. And it also went well with the sauerkraut. In the end while i did manage to finish all the sausages and the mash potato, i think sauerkraut is one vegetable i can do without.
