I was walking pass Crystal Jade and the visually appealing display of egg tarts (imagine glistening, bright yellow delights) beside their counter caught my attention. They have both the normal chinese egg tarts and the portuguese egg tarts available.

Since it has been a long time since i had a portuguese egg tart (which is harder to find in Singapore compared the chinese egg tarts), i decided to opt for that instead of the normal ones.

In my opinion, what appeals to me from a portuguese egg tarts compared to a normal one lies in the portuguese egg tart custard having a more milky taste and nice brown top (from caramelised sugar?) in a flaky pastry base. Crystal Jade ones meet all aspect. The smooth custard smooth tasted like creme brulee and was not overly sweet or milky. Accompanied with the flaky pastry which is just right and not too thick, the whole soft and crispy combination won my heart.The egg tarts are kept in a warming counter, so when you buy them, eat them straight to enjoy the best taste!

Was craving for some hot and cook-to-order meal. Decided to try this seafood and mix vegetable rice from Ah Wok Restaurant located inside Food Opera.

The dish came hot and smells really yummy. Slice fish, prawns and octopus was stir fried with mixed vegetables in a muifan-like gravy. The seafood was very fresh. A fried egg was also served on top of the rice.

Overall, a satisfying cze-char style meal.

Visited Yayoiken when i was shopping around Bugis with my friend. I ordered a Nasu miso Hokke set as i like brinjals (also known as eggplants). The set comes with a miso soup, a cold tofu, a bowl of rice with my nasu miso and hokke fish. The nasu is dried fried to soft on the inside yet not oily. Stir-fried with red miso and thinly slice pork, it was very appetising though rather salty. A big eater can definitely polish off many bowls of the nice fluffy japanese rice (their rice comes FREE FLOW with their set meal!) with it.
The Hokke is salted and grilled lightly such that it has a nice charred aroma, but the meat remain moist. The miso soup contains seaweeds and small cubes of tofu, just like most of the miso soup served in Japanese restaurants. Lastle, the cold tofu is really soft and sort of melts in your mouth.

I recommend this for a nice, hearty well-balance meal.

Took away a Strawberry Fruit Tart one evening after dinner as i was drawn to the fresh pump looking strawberries.
The tart is not too thick and has a layer of chocolate coating inside. Topping includes a soft sponge cake and custard, followed by the Big Juicy Sweet strawberries. Lastly, it was glaze with a layer of gelatine and sprinkle of almond flakes surrounding the side.

Try it to see and taste how different this tart is from other competitors.

Initially i wanted to have Pizza which is their main speciality, but was attracted to the big piece of golden battered fish and chip that one of the customer was having. In the end, i chose the fish and chip to see whether the food taste as good as it looks.

When my dish came, i got the same delicious looking fish and chip that i have seen. It was served with a heapful of salad without dressing which made the oily dish healthier, but i would prefer coleslaw as it is tastier. Nevertheless, the fish is really crispy on the outside with the thin layer of batter. Sadly, the fish inside is tasteless and rather fishy. One would need to dip it with lots of mayo or chilli/ ketchup for taste.the fries was quite hard and dry. It seems to be refried or that they have fry it too long.

Overall, the dish was below average and i will stick to their Pizza next time.
