great chicken rice Smile Oct 21, 2011

just happened to chance upon this stall when i was at downtown east , and boy ive been missing out. i ordered set A , which is chicken rice with thai styled tofu set . the chicken portion was generous and nice and juicy, the rice was fragrant and not oily at all. soup was average , came with chilli , dark soya , and ginger sauces. one of the better chicken rice ive eaten out there. the chef was an ex chatterbox chef who got retrenched , and there are posters all over the stall. all in all a great chicken rice!

sad theres always a long queue for this so i thought id give it a try , especially with all its hype. after a good 10 minutes of queuing finally got my plate of chicken rice. for me the chicken wasnt quite as tender , and the rice was too oily. in short i was pretty disappointed. the item that stood out most for me was the chilli in fact. on the whole its not bad but i wont be queuing for this again

great mango pomelo Smile Oct 21, 2011

zhen jie can be found in the middle row at the 2nd level of amoy food centre. they sell a large variety of local chinese desserts but the one that i always go for is the mango pomelo. the mangoes are always fresh and sweet and balanced with the slightly bitterness of the pomelos. its quite a heavy dessert so i usually have it take away back to work to eat slowly

good lor mee OK Oct 21, 2011

good lor mee at amoy food centre. nice sauce and generous serving of ingredients. this lor mee is the type using pork ( not the other one with fried fish) .queue is always long but moves pretty quickly so dont be afraid to join the queue. its good but a little overrated. prefer the lor mee at bukit purmei , which is still tops!

best dumplings in signapore Smile Oct 21, 2011

no doubt the best dumplings in singapore. they serve 3 types , the chesnut , mush room with chestnus , and salted egg one. both 3 taste great, size is a bit smaller than usual but each bite is chockful of flavour. the meat is very lean which i like. its about $3 a pop . be there very early or order in advance as it is usually sold out by lunch time
