Selfish Gene Cafe Smile Jan 23, 2014

According to owner Gene, it is not that he will never share his food, but rather he will not serve anyone food that he never tasted. Selfish Gene Cafe offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, pastries and coffee.

It was pretty packed when I reached so it's always wiser to make a reservation in advance especially if you intend to visit on a weekend. Lucky us, only had to wait for around 10 minutes.

B.O.B ($15.80) which I didn't try as I'm not a fan of smoked salmon and my boyfriend didn't comment much on the food either, except that the poached eggs ain't runny? Breakfast plate ($15.80) for myself! I really love their scrambled eggs, not too creamy and not too runny as well as the toasted brioche!

Prices here are really affordable, mostly $10-$15 and there's no service charge. If you're around tiong bahru area, it's a definite must to drop by there and have their all day breakfast.

Dessert and brunch OK Jan 23, 2014

Pique Nique should be no stranger to cafe hoppers. Ever since with its first outlet appearing in Ngee Ann City, it had been known as a place for all-day breakfast and sweet treats. The outlet in jCube feels much more soothing with a huge tree located in the centre of the cafe, and the lush green carpeting of the patio-like space is a great setting for a nice “picnic”.

I was craving for desserts that night and thus I opted for Chococheese cupcake ($4.80) - love the soft and creamy cheese and Strawberry cheesecake ($7.50) - people who don't really have a sweet tooth will definitely like this whereas my friend ordered the big breakfast ($15.80). Comes with baked beans with capsicums, sausage, bacon, toast, salad, choice of sunny side-up, poached or scrambled eggs and a complimenting orange juice or a cup of coffee. It was decent, but lacking the wow factor.

I'd prefer dessert more than having brunches there.

A dim sum buffet on a weekend, 3-5pm.

This dim sum buffet has a lot of variety to choose from. The service crew will actually come up to you one by one with different types of dim sums for you to choose.

What are not to be missed: Chee cheong fun, complimentary shark fin soup, hargow, siew mai, stirred fried vegetables
What are to be missed: Tempura prawn, xiao long baos

Try to make a reservation in advance because it can get really crowded!

Lady M OK Jan 23, 2014

All the way from US to singapore, Lady M Confections prides itself on creating the freshest and finest cakes and confectionary delights. Their cakes are handmade following recipes that have been refined over the years to provide the highest quality in taste and appearance.

Signature crepe cake ($7.50), twenty thin layers of crepe with delicious cream, probably one of the better ones I've tried!

Cheesecake pie ($7), can't remember the price clearly but it's around there. However I feel it's run of the mill, the cheese was too over infusing for my personal liking.

Coffee can be a miss.

For awesome pies! Smile Jan 23, 2014

A quaint and cozy cafe located along the shop houses near jalan besar stadium. Staff there are really friendly and helpful!

We ordered lemon strawberry meringue and smores (chocolate + marshmallow) pies ($7.50 each).

These two pies were pretty satisfying but it's quite a pity that they do not have a lot of choices for us who don't really like banana, mint and etc.

Will definitely visit there again to chill and have a good pie!
