Be captivated by The Black Swan Smile Sep 17, 2013

Categories : European | Bars/Lounges

My friend actually introduced me The Black Swan after she went there and bunch of us went there to chill out on a Saturday night. To get there, if you are taking the MRT, you just have to exit via the path to Lao Pa Sat and that gets you to Cecil Street. The restaurant is located on the left and entrance is pretty iconic enough that you will hardly miss it. Although Cecil Street is quiet on a Saturday night as it is a central business district but once you step into the restaurant, you will feel that you have step into life into the Great Gatsby vibe.

The counter staff at the entrance will warmly welcome you and usher you to your seats. The Black Swan is grandly embellished with a classic touch of the Jazz age. The bar is elegantly decorated with many different kind of liquors and bartender are busy preparing drinks for the patrons. The restaurant is also decorated with many interesting round balls looking chandeliers which was pretty dim but fits the mood perfectly.

I was there for drinks and light bites so a group of us only ordered Truffle Cut Fries ($9) and Wild Mushroom, Homemade Bacon Jam Mozzarella Crostini ($9) for sharing. I was really disappointed that the Baked Bone Marrow with Chili & Kombu was not available for that night and I would love to try that though but this gave me another chance to go back there again.

Truffle Cut Fries ($9) – The fries had a strong truffle aroma, it was crispy and tasted well even with the mayonnaise and tomato sauce that came with it.

Wild Mushroom, Homemade Bacon Jam Mozzarella Crostini ($9) – The ingredients actually blended well, the mushroom was fresh and the Mozzarella cheese was chewy. Do eat this while it is still warm once it is served.

As for drinks I ordered the Silver Lining Cocktail ($19) which according to the waitress was one of the sweeter cocktails in the menu. It comprises of a velvety mixture of Amaretto (an alcoholic base made of almonds) together with peaches and egg white and was prettified by a twig of rosemary.

The service of this restaurant was perfect. The waiters and waitresses were very warm and attentive, constantly checking and looking if the tables needed anything. So far, this is one restaurant that I can attest to providing such observant service. They were also constantly topping up water which was a plus.

The restaurant indeed has its own charm and character that which is distinctive to other places. I really recommend this place to go so check it out for yourself and let this place wow you. Although the price may be more on the upscale end but I can assure you it is really worth a visit if you want to try out something different.

Spending per head: Approximately $40(Other)

Refreshing Dessert Smile Jul 17, 2013

I still crave for Blackball at times cause of the sweet and refreshing taste of this dessert. I tried a few times at the Bugis + outlet and usually this outlet is crowded during peak hours and it may take a while to find seats. This dessert seems to be from Taiwan. What I am attracted is the combination in the dessert. When you order, you have the choice of choosing it hot, very hot, icy cold or cold. I usually will like to have it hot. What is inside this blackball that makes it so tasty? It comprises of sweet potatoes, taro balls, red beans topped with grass jelly and comes with additional milk if you would like to add it in. I like it with milk. Although, they are simple ingredients they are all high in nutritious value if you realize. When you are craving for something sweet and refreshing, blackball isn’t a bad choice to have something sweet and healthy at the same time.

Red Velvet Ice Cream Smile May 31, 2013

I was elated when I know that Cold Stone Creamery has Red Velvet ice cream. I adore Red Velvet in general and I enjoy Red Velvet of any kind from cupcakes to pancakes. It was good to know that this ice cream flavour is available. I ordered the medium cup with waffles. I got to choose two toppings as well. The toppings comprises of Reese's peanut buttercups, almonds, gummy bears, Mars' chocolate and many more. I chose the biscuit crumbs and a bar of Kit Kats and the person helped me mix it in. Paid about 9 bucks for this. It ain't cheap but I left the shop feeling happy and satisfied. Usually there will be a long queue at this outlet at certain times. I guess it must be the hot weather in Singapore and people still like to enjoy their cup of ice cream.

Categories : Café

Its another lunch time at Celdele near my work place. Willl crave for their breakfast whenever I think of nice warm meal. Anyway, this time, I ordered rosti with poached egg instead of my usual pancakes. The poached egg was cooked to perfetion which comes with bacon strips, rosti and some tomatos and crunchy lettuces. I really enjoyed every meal that I have at cedele as I find their meal really quality and tasty and glad that I can still order breakfast during lunch time. Will be there again, definitely.

I Scream for Ice Cream Smile Jan 29, 2013

Star Vista happens to be the new place I hang out in right now. I was looking for a place to have dessert after my lunch and saw Pinocchio. The placement of the gelato shop is very obvious, right smack at level one in the middle of the mall. Looking at the many flavours that they have, I decided that I have to try the ice cream from this new place. I ordered the banana flavour as well as the tiramisu flavour and it cost less than 10bucks. The banana flavour is a tad too sweet but it is really creamy and nevertheless still good. The Tiramisu in my opinion was much better. I was addicted to it immediately.
