Afternoon Tea @Marmalade Pantry Smile Sep 24, 2011
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

Finally I managed to try out the cakes at Marmalade Pantry on a weekday afternoon together with a friend as I was on leave. It's always so difficult to get a table at Marmalade Pantry on weekends, so I was glad that I finally had this chance to have time for afternoon tea there. tongue

Although it was a weekday afternoon, the restaurant was almost full, just that there was no long queue to get in. We doubted that we could finish the high-tea set, so we decided to order 2 cakes and a pot of Sakura Green Tea to share.

The waiter told us that cakes were 1 of their most popular food items, in particularly the Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge Cake and The Marmalade Carrot Cake (both $7.80++ per slice). We only requested for the carrot cake as choc fudge sounded too heavy for me. The other cake we ordered was the Classic Baked Apple Pie ($6.80++ per slice).

The Marmalade Carrot Cake was really good! I thought Cedele's carrot cake was already very good, but I think this one beats Cedele's, and it was a very big & tall slice! The cake wasn't too sweet. It was spongy and the cream cheese layer blended well with the cake, but my friend didn't like cream cheese and left it out. As for the Classic Baked Apple Pie, both of us didn't really like the crust as it's not the buttery crumbled type that we prefer. The apples in the pie were slightly sour though, and they were generous with the sliced apple fillings.

Our pot of Sakura Green Tea, as recommended by the waiter for being one of the bestselling teas, had a tinge of sweet vanilla fragrance. Very light, just nice for our stomachs tat were being filled up by 2 large slices of cakes! smile

I will come here again next time for the afternoon high tea set & cakes again!

Cheap & Good Banmian :) Smile Dec 30, 2010

Categories : Food Court | Noodles

This stall is located at the basement food court of Roxy Shopping Centre, next to Grand Mercure Roxy Hotel. Though it is in an air-conditioned food court, the prices of food served here are not expensive. So sometimes my colleagues and I will come here to have our lunch.

This round I ordered the Youmian ($2.80). The portion is big and the stall owners are generous with the pork and vegetables (cai xin) they put in this bowl of Youmian soup. The soup is also delicious and it's tempting to finish all the soup. tongue After finishing the whole bowl, I always feel very full and satisfied, and this round too. smile

Indonesian lunch Smile Nov 27, 2010

Whenever we crave for Ayam Penyet (Malay style flattened fried chicken) on work days, we will visit this eatery during lunch, as it's nearby the office. smile

On this day, I decided to bring a friend there for lunch as I was hoping to have a sip of their Avocado drink together with the sedap Ayam Penyet set. To our disappointment, the Avocado drink wasn't avail tat day. So we ordered 2 sets of Ayam Penyet with rice, 1 hot kopi, and 1 iced lime juice.

Ayam Penyet with rice ($6.50)

When the food came, I thot the chicken portion looked a bit smaller than previous visits. Nowadays they even asked if we want to separate the chili sauce or not, so I said yes and we were each given a separate saucer. We asked for mild chili and it was really mild, compared to previous visits when mild chili was also quite hot. Nonetheless, it was still sedap. bowl

Hot kopi ($1.50) and Iced Lime Juice ($1.80)

My friend had the hot kopi, which he said it was bad, too burnt for his liking. My lime juice was pretty normal hehe.

If you ever feel like eating Ayam Penyet, do try out Waroeng Penyet here (but don't try the ones in the food courts, which I heard, were not up to standard). They provide some tables outside the shop for "outdoor dining" too. If you want comfort & shield from the hot weather, then sit indoors where it is aircon. Enjoy smile

Healthy "Green" Dinner Smile Nov 25, 2010

Categories : Fusion | Vegetarian

I was introduced to this eatery along Beach Road by a friend working at Keypoint who advocates healthy eating.

When we reached it was about 7pm and not many customers. To our disappointment, the highly recommended Organic Brown Rice Set was sold out, as most of their customers come during lunch time.

So I ordered the Zha Jiang Mian ($7). The noodle was more like linguine type and it came with a lot of mixed vegetables & 2 slices of pumpkin. I had to mix the zha jiang sauce well with the veg & noodles. Tasty! It's very different from the typical zha jiang mian that I have eaten before. The pumpkins were very sweet & tasted like sweet potato. smile

My friend had the Soba Wakame Miso Soup ($7) which had generous serving of sweet corn, mushrooms, celery & pumpkin. She told me she likes it very much & it's not her first time ordering this. But well, I'm not a celery fan so I'm not sure if this is suitable for me or not hehe.

We also ordered the Xiao Long Bao as our side dish. The dish was served on a plate - 6 mini xiao long bao, really mini! hehe we kind of regretted ordering this though, as the ginger they put in the dumplings was too much & too strong for our liking. In fact I had to swallow the dumpling in 1 mouthful so as to avoid biting into the ginger & getting the taste "diffused" into my mouth directly. tongue We only managed to eat half of the portion. tongue

Lastly, I had the Black Sesame Pudding ($3.50) as my dessert. It was wholesome, not too sweet, & great black sesame taste! Very smooth texture. I love it smile

When you feel like having a healthier meal, you can try this eatery as they serve filtered water at the table and also use it in their cooking. The food they offer is also low in salt and oil.

Affordable Japanese food Smile Nov 14, 2010

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

MOF restaurant has been one of my favourite Japanese dining spots especially when it comes to dessert time. So when my colleague told me that she wants to try it out while we were looking for a dinner place at Suntec, I agreed to having our dinner there. smile

We ordered a different ramen each, 1 side dish, as well as a dessert each. Apparently, the ramen menu is new as one of the service crew actually passed us a feedback form for the ramen we ordered. Here's a review of the food & desserts we ordered that evening:

Miso Spicy Ramen ($10.50++)

The soup base was not too spicy but a bit thick, according to my colleague. I had a sip and thought the thickness was fine though I would prefer it to be spicier though. But overall, it was quite a good choice.

Tonkatsu Ramen ($8.80++)

This was my choice of ramen as I noted that it had a "Chef's Choice" sign next to it on the menu. A bit disappointing with the soup base which was a tad too sweet for my liking. It came with 2 or 3 pieces of pork slices and lots of beansprouts. I prefer the Miso Spicy Ramen to this soup base.

Kinoko Butteryaki($8.50++)

This side dish is actually 2 different types of mushrooms cooked with butter. Delicious! The butter taste was there yet not overwhelming. chopstick

Shiratama Kurian ($7.20++)

This dessert is also listed as a "Chef's Choice" & ya, it's very nice. Soft serve with Kanten Jelly, fruits, Japanese dumplings and Hokkaido red bean paste all together in 1 bowl. The Kanten Jelly is supposed to be beneficial with many vitamins & minerals, and help to reduce fats etc. There's a generous portion of this jelly.smile The Japanese dumplings are very chewy which adds to the "happiness" while eating this dessert. Hehe

Macha Mixed Imo ($6.80++)

This is actually soft serve with green tea sauce, red bean paste and 1 sweet potato ball and 1 yam ball together in the bowl. Also one of my favourite desserts at MOF, and a "Chef's Choice".

There are actually many other choices of main courses/ set meals and desserts to suit your palate. So if you haven't tried out this restaurant yet, do so when u spot one! At least u definitely wun regret trying the desserts! smile
