Nasi Briyani. Smile Apr 22, 2011

My mom came home with a takeaway set of good-smelling Nasi Briyani. It didn't just smell good but indeed, it was mouth-watering. The rice was a pleasant bright orange color, crunchy and fragrantly yummy.

The chicken drumlet was tender and the lean meat fell off its bone easily with just a few gentle knocks as my fork scraped it. The curry, though surfaced with a thin layer of oil, was still good after stirring as it was really creamy and not overly spicy. The spices in the gravy stood out.

It was a small serving but hey, I'm not complaining because it only cost $1.50. I wasn't too hungry that night anyway so it was perfect.

This stall is popular for their pork chop rice! Whenever I head down to Tanjong Pagar to have lunch with my parents, my mom and I would never leave this stall out as we buy a couple of takeaways to bring back to the office to share between ourselves.

You can also request for a half-half serving of chicken and pork chop. I love their broccoli too, crunchy, fresh and strong green in color, which means the vitamins are not lost! We'll also have the curry sauce gravy on our rice; their curry sauce is thick and creamy, very tasty and not spicy or oily at all.

The lady boss is very friendly and kind, as she knows that we often frequent her stall, she usually gives us a very generous serving. It's just $3.50 for a huge portion of white rice with curry gravy, pork chop, chicken chop and broccoli.

Bento Japanese Set. Smile Apr 22, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Food Court

I recall the days when Tanglin Mall was the 'in' shopping mall among families and friends during the 90s. I used to come here often as a kid. But now it's just quiet, especially on weekdays.

I had a Japanese Bento Set- Teriyaki Chicken and Fried Fish Fillet. It also came with a bowl of miso soup and white rice. It was pretty good I guess, the chicken, though a little hard, was tasty and the teriyaki sauce kept me wanting for more. The fried fish fillet was served warm. The rice was moist and crunchy and went well with the miso soup, which wasn't too salty or diluted either. Good choice.

flame grilled chicken. Smile Apr 18, 2011

Barcelos @ Holland is tucked away at a corner. It's near the multi-story car park, around the same area as the Katong Laksa stall and Provence bakery.

I love Barcelos for their flame grilled chicken. The staffs at this outlet are approachable and friendly too. I order the twin chicken skewers ($14.95) that came with salad and a side- I chose French fries as they were out of the sautéed potatoes and mushrooms.

You'll also get to choose your choice of marinating to go with the bbq. There were 4 options: Tangy Lemon, Mild Peri, Very Peri and Super Peri. The Very Peri and Super Peri are relatively and really spicy especially to those who are not fans of spicy food. I do love spicy stuff but I chose the Tangy Lemon for marinating as I want to enjoy my meat with the various Peri sauces later on.

The French fries were good too, crispy, filling and not overly soaked in oil. I love the greens too, they were fresh with the house dressing and crotons.

bagels w cream cheese. Smile Apr 12, 2011

So it's often Starbucks vs. Coffee Bean, these 2 are great competitors. But often or not, we'd support Starbucks today and Coffee Bean on another, depending on the convenience of location and what we prefer among us that day.

My friends and I met up on a weekday morning for breakfast. I like bagels with cream cheese so we ordered 2 of that, one plain and the other one a cheese bagel. We also ordered hot drinks like tea and I had a caramel frappucino despite during the first meal of the day. They were delicious and helped to a great start as we people-watched, enjoyed the cool breeze and chit-chat.. catching up.
