With pieces of meat showcased. OK May 14, 2011

Categories : Restaurant | Steaks and Grills

iSteaks Grillhouse has taken over the former Aston's at H S Eating House @ Serangoon Gardens. The menu is actually pretty similar to Aston's except that they showcase the types of meat outside, so you can actually choose which piece you prefer.. yeah, it's cool.

I opted for the grilled salmon though, it was cooked right, neither too hard nor undercooked but I'd say I could cook better ones for its price, $13. I reckon it was rather small and the cream sauce on top just tasted weird. I'd very much prefer salmon with seasonings like black pepper. Moreover, $13 to have an average dinner in a coffee shop environment doesn't sound very appealing to me.

Spending per head: Approximately $13(Dinner)

fried chicken cutlet rice. OK May 14, 2011

I was working with a friend for Boat Asia and the company kindly got us packet lunch!

We were delighted when we were greeted with takeaway boxes of fried chicken cutlet rice from Aspirasi Food Galore as they arrived.

But as it turned out, this is not my new found best friend, the fried chicken cutlet was only so-so, let's say it was tasty but really oily and fattening, most of the meat were the skins and fatty parts. The rice grains were a little hard but overall, tasted better than the chicken itself.

Spending per head: Approximately $3

plain pratas. OK May 13, 2011

An Indian stall in a coffee shop in Choa Chu Kang Loop serving pratas, nasi braiyni and the list goes on. The stall's name is called Famous Roti Prata, as they claim, not too bad but honestly I didn't find anything spectacularly special about it. I had 2 plain pratas, they weren't the crispy kind of prata, I'd say they belong to the soft dough and chewy category. I also had them with both fish curry and white sugar. Overall, it was around average, maybe a 5.5 on the scale of 10.

Cai fan. OK May 11, 2011

Categories : Food Court

It was a long weekday and my mom wanted to grab some quick and simple dinner for us. My dad and mom happened to be around Hougang and hence they decided to get some cai fan for us. My meal was just 2 dishes, 1 meat and 1 vegetable: fried chicken pieces + stir-fried cabbage. Also, my mom opted plain porridge for me instead of white rice. I wouldn't say it was good, but budget anyway.

fingerfood. OK May 11, 2011

My boyfriend and I bought some takeaway for ourselves and our friends who were swinging by his place in the evening. We bought criss-cross fries and 8 pieces of fried chicken wings. The fried chicken wings were not too bad but I've certainly eaten better ones, the criss-cross fries just turned soggy and soaked full of oil after an hour.
