Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Roasted Meat

One of my favorite chinese restaurants! I love the deco of the restaurant as it fits the name of the restaurant very well! They have chinese wine urns as the deco and wooden furnitures, which emulated the older days inns very well!

Staff were all very friendly and wore dian xiao er hats! Very cute! They were all very well-versed with the menu and most memorize the menu. Quick and friendly service from them.

On to the food!

1. Soup of the day - Double boiled lotus root - $11.60
Refreshing and light, was a good start to the meal. Lotus roots were of generous serving and the meat inside was actually quite flavorful! There was some peanuts, dried scallop within too.

2. Duck roasted with angelica herbs - $12.90 lol
Filled with herbs, the duck was roasted to perfection. Personally, I don't eat the skin of the meat but this skin was too good to be wasted! It was crispy and some of it didn't even have any fats on it! The meat was soft, tender and aromatic as it absorbed the herbs flavor. I tried some of the herbs and they were surprisingly sweet! Not too sure what kind of herbs are they though. mad

3. Stir fried bitter gourd and pumpkin -$11.60
This is quite a special dish, never seen it outside before! Bitter gourd and pumpkin was quite a good mix. There were some crunchy things (dont know what are they) and chestnut (?) cooked together. The sweetness of the pumpkin compensates the bitterness of the bitter gourd!

4. Old-style steamed fish slices $12.30
I like the sauce that they cooked the fish in. Not too salty and taste different. The fish slices were fresh too!

5. Chinese spinach in superior stock - $18.30
One of my favourite dish to order as it has wolfberries in it and i love spinach! plus, the superior stock can be taken with rice, delicious!! There were some anchovies sprinkled on top of the dish, adds to the healthiest of the dish!

6. Braise mushroom in chinese wine - $10.90
Taste of chinese wine was quite strong but with the other condiments added to make the dish, i felt it was quite a nice touch!
White rice - $3
Best place to have another bowl of rice if you're love eating rice! The rice is very very flagrant and it's always pipping hot! Ask the waitress which brand they use and i believe they said "zhen zhu mi" (pearl rice). Got to go buy it for myself!

Quick tip for the health conscious: there's dishes with the health pyramid at the side and i think they list the calories in the food too!

I will definitely be back for more! (:

Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

I went for lunch at around 2+, after the lunch crowd? Because i know the queue takes forever during the peak hour. Evident from the throngs of people gathering around outside the restaurant during peak mealtimes.

The waiters and waitresses are crazily friendly! smile Once you enter the restaurant, they greet you with an arousing "huan ying guang ling" (welcome to patron, lol direct translation). It gets annoying after all as they do it for every single customer. huffy Especially for me as they sat me next to the kitchen and everyone passes through there. But the service was prompt as there were so many of them! However, they seem to have little knowledge of the specific dishes, so it's better to ask those with more senior position.

The environment was very lively due to the random welcoming by the waiters, decor was bare-minimal as the restaurant was catering to more patrons at once. Thus, the lack of many ornaments around. It was an open kitchen concept so patrons can see the chefs pulling the la mian and wrapping the xiao long baos.

Food ordered:

1. Radish Pastry - $3.90 lol
I tried this dish before and i absolutely loved it. The radish was sweet and crunchy and the outer fried layer was crispy! NICE NICE NICE!
Sadly, there was something wrong with the whole batch of radish pastry that day. The radish was sour and we complained to the manager who quickly apologize and went to the kitchen to taste the dish. Indeed, the chef felt it was sour too and changed the whole batch! The manager couldn't compensate a new radish pastry so he just kept apologizing. STILL! I'll recommend this dish!

2. Steamed Vege Dumpling - $3.60 smile
OK dish, nothing too special about this. Filled with chives and spring onion? not sure of the particular vege. This dish is meat free as well, so it's not too filling. The skin was just nice, not too hard/soft. Try it with the ginger, quite a nice mix.

3. La Mian Steamed with D/boiled Chicken Soup - $10.80 smile
Noodles with separate soup. The double boiled chicken soup was simple and nice. Nothing fanciful about it but the soup was delicious! It has only about 2-3 pieces of chicken inside but the main attraction is the la mian. Very springy! and it doesn't let the eater feel tired of eating it.

4. La Mian with Dried Shrimp & Scallion (Dry) - $6.80 lol
We ordered this to share as we wanted a plain noodle to go with the other dishes. The dried shrimp and scallion smelt soooo nice! MAybe i was a little hungry but i thought that this was indeed simplicity at its best! They gave a small bowl of soup too, i think just in case it gets too dry after being exposed when patrons chat and eat at the same time.

5. Sautéed Kai Lan with Ginger Sauce - $12.00 smile
Very overpriced!! ): 9-10 stalks of kailan and it cost $12! I recommend the other vegetables, although they only have 4 (sautéed spinach w minced garlic, sautéed australian lettuce and the other 2 we ordered) to choose from. This one will be one of the more expensive one. Luckily, it was sweet and fresh enough. The kai lan was all very young, more juicy too!

6. Sautéed Cabbage - $12.00 lol
More worthy of the price since there were relative more stalks. Eating veggies at restaurants always cost a bomb seeing as how cheap veggies are. The cabbage was on the softer side and not as crunchy, might have boiled for a little too long, but it was still juicy.

8. Poached Slice Fish in Szechuan Style - $18.80 mad
This was definitely a szechuan dish. The number of chillies in the dish was uncountable. Practically a chilli soup!! Definitely not for the faint-hearted. The fish was very smooth and soft, felt like jelly! There was this indescribable layer of coating around it? Gave the fish an extra taste. Wonderful! The chilli added an extra oomph! to the dish! Look at the amount of chilli we fished out from the bowl
lol

lol

tongue, it could be a dish on it's own!

I will definitely patronize paradise dynasty 2 again for the great food and service! bowl chopstick lol

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

Went for lunch with a couple of friends to this japanese eatery as it was the first one along the Tokyo Walker (few japanese stores next to each other. You can order from one store and bring it to the other!) and we were really hungry! Got attracted into the store by the tantalizing set menu that they were advertising outside the store. The tables were lined in such a way that it felt a little cramp if given the normal tables instead of the booth, but the environment was still quite good as the interior had some japanese related drawings and paintings.

I ordered the tofu burger set - $8.90 (?). It was soooooo yummy! The omu rice made me feel like i was in a korean (rooftop prince) drama (i know it's not jap, but i love it!!!!)! It was not the normal white rice but the rice was mixed with tomato which gave it a stronger taste. Coupled with the tofu burger (tofu + beef), it was a match made in heaven! I love it!! Plus, the egg omelette was a little runny and not overcooked! PERFECTION! lollollolThe fries that was given was ok, nothing special. But it was piping hot! Fresh out of the frying stove (plus point!).
I felt the broccoli and tomato was only for aesthetic purposes.
Soup served along was minestrone soup, a bit too sour for me but it was still delicious! There were huge chunks of carrots and onions floating around!

The whole set was very worthwhile of the cost.
Plus, the service was quite good as well. Although some of them do not know english very well, they try their best to explain and understand what we were asking. Service was also very prompt and they served water without us asking! (free-of-charge!)

I will definitely come back and try the other items as i heard that they are more well-know for the ramen!

FRESH SASHIMI! Smile Jan 09, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Western | Restaurant | Pasta | Seafood | Burgers and Sandwiches

My parents bought the fish and chips back for dinner as they had a coupon/voucher for 1-for-1 fish and chips.
I like how the fish and chips remained crispy and fries did not turn soggy (yet!).

The two slices of fish were thick and juicy, definitely worth the price! The batter wasn't very thick as well, so you can taste more of the fish than the deep fried coating around it! Perfect!

the chips were those they were fat and filled with potato. It was very very delicious. I couldn't stop eating one fry after another! Plus, the portion was quite big, so it's possible to share with a friend if one's appetite isn't that big.

The Norwegian salmon sashimi is comparable to those that i had when i went to japan! It was so so so fresh! and the cut was quite thick. Also, they have a promotion every wednesday for sashimi! If i'm not wrong, $9.90 for salmon sashimi. So go on a wednesday if you want to try! The chef was also very generous in serving size. They also gave these cute little bottles of soy sauce for the wasabi. I think it's easier to squirt it out than the small plastic bags (similar to those in instant noodle packets). The wasabi is different as it was more.. mashed up (?) but the kick was definitely stronger than normal! lol

I will definitely go back to the store to try out other items!

cakes galore Smile Jan 09, 2013

Bought these few last minute cake slices for my mom's birthday as we went out for her birthday dinner spontaneously!

There is peach, strawberries and kiwi ontop of the fruit cake. A tad sour for me! I guess it depends on your luck to get the sweet ones. The almond flakes at the side added a nice touch to the soft sponge-like texture of the cake! The cream was quite rich as well. I scrapped it off as i felt it was too much.

I prefer the chocolate cake if i had to choose between the two. The chocolate cake had a small piece of white chocolate ontop and is decorated by 2 strawberries. These were a little more sweet than the ones on the fruit cake. The chocolate taste was very rich and it smelt quite aromatic too! It was very soft too.
