Tea Special Smile Jan 11, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

My mom and I for a late lunch to MOF the other day as i wanted to try their member's lunch menu but the waitress told me that promotion was over! ): BUT! she told us they have a tea special for students/members/senior citizens(?)! So there's 30% off of all set menu and ala carte items! YAY!

I got a free green tea for flashing my member's card:

Tea is left to remain hot on a little stove when a small candle holder at the bottom. I like the tea was it becomes very dense after awhile and it cleans the taste off so you won't have a breath that's reek of the lunch you just ate.

As we were there at an unearthly lunch hour, the restaurant was pretty quiet and there was only 1 waitress working. I guess it's still manageable because most of the people there were either sitting alone or with just 1 other person, sipping their tea and chatting away. Decor of the place was quite simple, minimal jap decorations around. The place is quite big and they have booths as well as individual tables. It is able to manage large crowds as the tables can be easily shifted to make space for bigger groups.

I didn't really like the waitress that day as she was showing an attitude, as though we offended her by being there. My mom was asking about the member's lunch menu and she said they don't have it and told us about the tea special. When we enquired further she gave an exasperated sigh and said "i told you already" blahblahblah. Plus, she just gave this face :l the whole time. So annoying!

So anyway, after much deliberation over what to eat as the menu was SOOOOOO thick and filled with goodies, I ordered the seafood curry udon:

It was piping hot when she served it! I like it like that. But i'm a bit disappointed as the curry was a bit more spicy than normal. I always thought japanese curry had a certain sweet taste to it, but this just was pure spicy. Ingredients in it included prawns, squid, carrots, onions and spring onions. The udon was thick and nice, i was happily slurping up all the strands of it! Prawn was crunchy, the way i like it. I felt that they could've given more carrots as i thought it was too little. The only qualm i have about this dish is that the chef had made it to spicy, not sure if it's to cater to us singaporeans, who like most of our dishes spicy. I thought that they should preserve the authentic jap taste. I wouldn't say it's exceptional as I think this curry might have been from those curry boxes that can be purchased at the supermarket. Yet, I must say it's still quite well done.
Seafood curry udon - $13.60 - 30% = $9.52! (even cheaper than the members' lunch menu that i was enquiring about!)

Tip: Member's gets discount off of some items and there are daily set menu for them. Also get to enjoy rebates and many other privileges! smile

Went past this place again on the way home and i decided to drop by to takeaway a quick lunch!

Ordered the fried noodles - $7

Expensive but it was pretty nice! There were quite a lot of veggies (beansprouts, onions, spring onions) in it. Prawn was crunchy too! I like the crunchy kind. Adding the lime juice to the beehoon is nicer, i feel. It isn't that oily but still on the oily side. I think it's an quite nice, but not exceptionally delicious or anything.

2nd visit~ OK Jan 11, 2013   (Related Review)

2nd visit to this restaurant, I think the dishes we ate the first time was a tad better.
I realized that this time, the lighting seems darker. LOL. Not sure if it's just me.

Pan Fried Dumplings - 8 for $8
I didn't really like it. Skin was a bit hard, like it was fried for two long. The fillings was alright.

Pig intestine mee sua - $8
I didn't try the pig intestine, not interested in it. LOL. Mee sua was quite good. I added vinegar too it, tasted better.

Taiwanese Beef Noodles - $12
I thought this was overpriced ): It was a little too spicy for me and the beef was not very soft and tender. The noodle was a bit too thick. Soup had some kind of herb-taste. I think it was nice, but a little spicy.

Added the dessert for $5 (with purchase of a main course), dessert of that day was green bean and red bean crushed ice. This was similar to the mango crushed ice. Just crushed ice with red bean and green bean on top. Not very nice ):

I may not go back to this restaurant as i think the dishes are overpriced, and not exceptionally nice. May only go back for the chicken chop rice if i visit the restaurant.

Delightful little treats Smile Jan 11, 2013

This famous tiong bahru shui kueh has relocated to choa chu kang! HOORAY! (:
They sell many different types of breakfast snacks, from shui kueh (rice cakes with turnip? - their speciality) to dumplings
I bought this soon kueh to go as it's easier to eat on the go. They provide sweet sauce and chilli wrapped in small plastic bags and tied with a rubber band.

Soon kueh - 5 for $3 (SMALL soon kueh)
I like that the skin of the soon kueh isn't very very thick but it's able to hold in the fillings nicely.
The fillings inside the soon kueh was crunchy and juicy! I like the taste of it. Refreshing as well. I thought it was quite addictive! You'' just unconsciously put them into your mouth! I was suppose to share them but i add it all up!

I will go back to the store to try their shui kueh another day! smile

Dim-sum dollies Cry Jan 11, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Food Court

Wanted to have some dim-sum for breakfast! But it wasn't as scrumptious as i thought it would be ):

Dim sum at the bottom left was really really bad. It's mango with prawn wrap. I think it was supposed to be crispy, or at least somewhat crispy. But it turned out to be cold and disgusting. I didn't like it at all. Chose it as it was the last 2 pieces, thought it was going to be nice but, EEW. NOPE.

The har gow was not too bad as it was left in the steaming fridge-like thing. Taste quite nice.
Glutinous rice was quite filling, the rice wrapped up a number of ingredients - mushrooms, meat, nut

I think it will be better to go in the early morning if you want to eat nicer dim sums. Plus, it doesn't help that the lady from china did not know anything about the food she was selling. She just said "wo zhi shi mai dong xi de, bu zhi dao bu zhi dao" when i asked her about some things in the dim sum. BAD SERVICE! huffy huffyhuffy
