Other than serving kway teow, one of the store's attraction is the carrot cake.
I saw many people queuing for this and the order list seems to be neverending, so you'll have to wait a little while to be served.

Ordered the smallest portion to share and i think the carrot cake is alright. Although, a little too oily for my preference. Too little egg and spring onion to add to the flavour of the dish.

Extraordinary Bee Hoon Smile Jan 10, 2013

Categories : Coffeeshop

Went for late breakfast at this coffeeshop and chose the economic beehoon because when i walked past, they just brought out the newly fried beehoon! SCORE! tongue

The number of customers keep flowing in, with people taking away the newly cooked beehoon so you're ensured that the dishes and noodles are more or less cooked 5-10minutes of you order. The aunties were very quick in serving everyone and i was forced to keep up with the quick pace of them.
Word of caution: Choose the ingredients you want before queueing, otherwise the auntie will keep recommending this and that.
The coffeeshop was very boisterous with storeowners and drinks aunties shouting out the orders. Cleaners were very quick in clearly the leftovers plates.

I chose the basic stuff, cabbage and tofu. It cost arnd $2? The auntie gave me a lot of beehoon, a whole chuck of it and i had to stop her from adding more. Bee hoon is chewy and springy, plus, since i ordered when it came right out of the wok, it was still hot! Tofu and cabbage was the usual; not too oily.

This store operates as a ngoh hiang store at night, and they're famous for their homemade ngoh hiang. I will be back to try them at night!

Recommended Dish(es):  fried bee hoon

Laksamania! Smile Jan 10, 2013

Everything in the store had something to do with laksa, hence the name: Laksa-mania! I think this store was opened with the concept of singaporeans in mind due to us having a constant craving of laksa. Now, you can have any form of dish in laksa!

As bugis+ hasn't been strongly promoted yet, the place was still pretty quiet during lunch hours. I went to the restaurant and there was only 1-2 customers aside from my table. The store is tucked at a little corner near to the crystal jade. It has around 3-4 booths and 7-8 tables around. Not very suitable for large crowds. But i think the customer flow is quite fast as the dishes comes out pretty fast.
Fun fact about this enterprise is that they have a mission to help those less fortunates who may have been marginalized due to their physical/mental disabilities to gain employment. Applaud them for having such a helpful spirit :') Service was quick and prompt, and they were actually quite well-versed with the menu! They also always kept a smile on their faces which was very delightful smile

Food we ordered:
yum!

yum!

1. Laksa Goreng - $7.50
I think this dish was very creative. Mee Goreng in laksa style. There were generous servings of prawns, fish cake, cockles and bean sprouts. At first, i thought that this dish is quite expensive as the noodles look really little. But once you uncoil the noodles, it's actually quite a lot! Good for big eaters! smile This dish is also one of the recommended dish by the chef! I like the laksa taste of it that oozes out in your mouth and it doesn't beat the smell of it! So this appeals to all senses!
:)

:)

2. Laksa Chicken Rice - $10.50
Another chef recommended dish. It includes rice with veggies (long beans, carrots, cabbage) with chicken and laksa gravy, in a sizzling hot stone bowl! Again, they were very generous in serving size as the rice was more than enough for us. We ran out of gravy after awhile to complement the rice and wasted the rice ): Laksa gravy was laced thickly with coconut, making it very aromatic. The chicken was deep fried and thick with meat. Cabbage was a little raw, i like those which are cooked entirely. Nontheless, a superb dish!

I will definitely go back to try other items on the menu but maybe wait for some promotion as i feel it's price tag is a little high. However, if you're having a strong laksa craving, this shop will definitely be able to satisfy you as there's a plethora of laksa-themed dish to choose from!

Pasta with a twist! Smile Jan 10, 2013

Categories : Italian | Japanese | Fusion | Restaurant | Pasta

I went for the standard chartered promotion! Set meal cost $16 each and comes with salad, soup and drinks (soft drinks/ apple juice/ orange juice).
We ordered pasta w olive roast duck, pasta in soup hokkaido and cream shrimp and squid pasta.

The restaurant has a very jap feel as there were some wooden decorations around and we used chopsticks to eat the pasta! I thought that the tables arrangement was a little cramped and i was practically sitting right next to the customer next to me. One of the staff that served us was not so fluent in English and so we had to point out what we wanted. Can see her trying very hard! So kudos to her!

Salad: Felt like onion salad as the veggies that forms the base of the salad was actually onion sliced into thin strips. It was a little too raw for me and but the salad sauce which had a tinge of saltiness covered up the rawness of the onion. Overall, very refreshing.

First few sip of the soup tastes quite nice, after awhile, i thought it was increasing salty so i dipped the pasta into the soup and ate it like cold soba.

The pasta was not presented as so! Had to arrange it as we were eating away happily and forgot to snap a pic! Pasta was springy and the duck meat was soft and tender. Olive oil added which boost the taste of it. 1-2 strips of corn to enhance the aesthetics of the dish.

Again, pasta was not served as so. Have nearly finish eating this dish. The soup was creamy and flavorful, quite a lot of milk added i think. Generous serving of ingredients added includes carrots, potatoes and asparagus, bacon. The carrots and potatoes were cooked to the right temperature, not too hard and not too soft

Lastly, the shrimp and squid. They gave 4 shrimps and 3 squids, had bacon in it as well. They also provided a slice of lemon to add to the pasta. I think the sourness of the lemon enhanced the taste of the pasta. chopstick Shrimp and squid were deep fried but the batter wasn't that thick, could taste the 2 ingredients very well.

What i didn't like about the restaurant is one has to go to the counter to make payment. The counter was right next to the kitchen so while you wait for the bill to be printed out, you have to keep dodging them as they come out with the piping hot dishes. This might be a business trick as you'll see the food being prepared and it smelt so nice; which makes you want to go back again!

hohoho!  OK Jan 10, 2013

Tried the Christmas Party Meal for 4 – 6pax - $56.90 as december was coming to an end!

The set comes with :
1 Regular Jolly Glee Pizza
1 Regular Pan Pizza or 2 Pasta Perfetto (Classic range) [we chose 2 pasta perfecto]
6 pcs Sweet n Spicy Drumlets [changed to fries]
4 Soup of the Day
4 Glasses of Coolers (Emerald / Berri / Summer Sparkle/ Lychee) [tried all 4]

Jolly Glee Pizza: We chose the crust with cheese in it. I felt that the crust was too thick to enjoy the fillings, nacho cheese inside was a tad too salty for me. Seems like the crust was more than the fillings.

The 2 pastas, can't remember the name but both were so salty! Esp the one below. And the cracker wasn't very crispy. The other pasta was alright.

I like the sauce that came with it! Plus, the fries were thick and hot! lol

Corn soup. I guess it's from the can? Some clamps were floating around.

The different coolers. I like the mango one the best as the chucks of mangoes at the bottom was quite sweet.t Lychee was also another nicer one. The other 2.. not so good.

I know that there're having a 1-for-1 weekday promotion now! Head down to try the other items on the menu!
