While driving along Upper BukitTimah Road, we chanced upon a Tze Char stall from a distance and decided to try it out.
Just a slip road away was another coffee shop which we drove past earlier and decided to give it a shot. Surprise surprise, it was an old school Tze Char eatery - TianJia Fu Restaurant.
Zooming in to our orders, we had Golden Chicken ($28), Crayfish ($6-8), Signature Mincemeat Beancurd ($8) and Kai Lan ($8).
Preparation for this chicken dish was painstaking and required meticulous hands of an experienced chef! Well, at least that's how I perceived it. The flesh was separated, leaving only bare skin that was left to dry before being patched with sotong paste. Seasoned and dried, it then went through the roasting process to complete this master piece.
Yes, it was delicious, crispy and tedious, but where did the meat go? Felt that it was a little pricey and $25 was the ceiling price.
Savoury flavour from the chye po mixed with the plain tofu was match made in heaven!
Crayfish, freshness guaranteed! When asked of their recommended preparation, the waitress confidently replied that steaming it will give the best taste. Such a bold and confident statement!
True to their word, the crayfish was nicely prepared. No odour, but only pure seafood sweetness and flesh was crunchy. Smaller ones were $6 while large ones were $8.
I am very pleased with this treasure hunt. This place is a stonethrow away (5 mins walk) from BukitPanjangLRT.

Since its opening in August 2011, business at Hot & Spicy Nasi Lemak Family Restaurant has been booming and prospering. Despite being housed in a concrete unit, the restaurant management managed to relive and recreate the kampung vibes with bamboo constructs. Fret not, this place is fully air-conditioned for dining comfort.
Offering an extensive array of Himalayan/Nepalese, Indian/Pakistani and Seafood cuisine, Hot & Spicy Nasi Lemak Family Restaurant is Halal certified.
Specialist in Nasi Lemak, be ready to be spoilt for choice with their wide selections of Nasi Lemak combinations.
On top of that, we ordered a BBQ Stingray ($18) for sharing too. Fiery as it looks, but it was actually manageable for the palate.
Decently priced and delicious food in a comfortable setting, good spot to lepak!

Just like how alternative rock is to mainstream rock songs, so is Alt Pizza to traditional pizza. At Alt Pizza, delectable thin crust artisan pizzas are served in 11 inches that comes with creative toppings and amazing flavours. Befitting of its name, this contemporary pizza bar that is Helmed by Chef Matthew White.
Menu at Alt Pizza offers Starters, DIY Pizza (starts at $8), Pizzas, Beers and Desserts.
Came here with some of my church cell group friends, which gave us the luxury to order multiple flavoured pizzas: Old School ($12), Free Bird ($12), The Hangover ($14), Buffalo Bill ($16) and Garth Vader ($12).
However, first up were some appetizers: Alt. Wings ($12) and Crispy Calamari Fritti ($10).
Boy oh boy, this is the BEST Calamari I've tasted! The breaded crust was crispy and light while the calamari had a great texture. Lack of better words, it was QQ as how a Taiwanese would have described it.
Next up were the amazingly tasty pizza, with mind-blowing crust that were thin and crispy, yet chewy!
Tantalizing and irresistible, Alt Pizza is one of the best in town in my opinion! On top of that, Alt Pizza's competitive pricing is another attraction that will draw me back again!

Strong Aussie vibes with a touch of Peranakan style, The Lokal (which also means "bar or dining place" in German) is nestled at the corner of Neil Road. Led by Chef Darren Farr, The Lokal is all about Western comfort food and gourmet coffee which beans are from Sarnies.
Despite of the crowd, service by the waitresses are well delivered with courtesy and hospitality.
I ordered a burger dish, but forgotten its name. Served with squid ink (or was it charcoal) buns, bacon, sunny side up with a thick slab of perfectly done salmon. Not only was it tasty, but definitely Instagram worthy!
Lu orderd Roasted Chicken Panini which did live up to expectations.
As mentioned earlier, beans are from Sarnies as this cafe is co-owned by the folks of Sarnies. Besides Latte ($5.5), German wheat beer Paulaner is also on tap.
Lastly, although both of us were filled, but we couldn't resist the temptation of Sticky Date Pudding. Blame it on the good sales speech by the waitress.
Served with a heap of vanilla ice cream, piping hot pudding and adorned with a thick layer of caramelized sugar, it was diabetic (but shiok)!
Opened till 1030pm, The Lokal is probably one of the spots for dinner and wind down after a long day of work.
