cheap and good mixed rice Smile Apr 29, 2013

Categories : Food Court

I don't expect delicacies at every meal; sometimes a cheap and good coffeeshop fare is good enough for me.

Paid about $2.70 for this, and I suspect the ingredients fall under the 2 meat 1 vege category, so it's cheap. Nowadays even at coffeeshops one can hardly find food costing below $3. There is also quite a generous serving of rice and dishes, so I'd have to request for less rice to prevent any wastage. The food tastes decently good too!

Strawberry Frost donut Smile Apr 29, 2013

I wanted to buy myself a Mrs Happy donut, seeing how cute it was! Since it was already fully sold out, I settled for a Strawberry Frost donut instead.

What first tempted me to buy this was because the strawberry jam filling oozed out from the donut, and I couldn't resist the idea of munching on a donut fill with strawberry jam.

Took a bite and was a little disappointed because the fillings were very little. Nonetheless, it tasted good, just like bread with strawberry jam topped with some icing.

Will go back for Mrs Happy donut!

Favourite sushi bar! Smile Apr 29, 2013

This is a forgotten place tucked away in a corner of Far East Plaza, that serves really decent Japanese fare.

The cafe is really small yet cosy, with a food preparation station in the middle. There are less than 20 counter seats around the middle station, and that's pretty much about it. You don't get to choose your seats, because the staff will assign them to you according to the number of pax and availability. So if you're assigned seats at the far end of the station, you basically have to stick yourself against the wall and squeeze past everybody else to get to your seat.

Diners of this little cafe don't seem to mind these conditions, because there isn't much discomfort; only cosiness. The food is really fresh and awesome too. You can tell how much their regular diners love this place when you see the long queue outside the cafe. Everybody waits for their turn patiently. But thank goodness the turnover rate is rather fast too, because most diners just eat and go; this is not the place for chilling or chatting.

Seaweed appetizer

This is the most unique appetizer I've ever eaten in my life. It's served slightly warm, in a little sauce, and the seaweed texture is chewy. It tastes really good and savory, a good kickstart to the meal.

Salmon sashimi

You can tell instantly that this is very fresh! The chef takes out the salmon and cuts slices of thick and chunky sashimi infront of you only after you place your order. You can see that the slices are "upright", not thin and slimy like how most restaurants serve the dish. This never fails to make me salivate before I eat!

Udon

This may just be a normal udon, nothing special, but I love everything about it. The noodles are thick, slightly chewy, slurping good, basically cooked to perfection and served in tasty soup.

Maki with avocado, cucumber and crabstick

This is one sushi that overwhelms the tastebuds by being creamy, crunchy, soft and heavenly at the same time.

Mixed sashimi

Freshest platter of sashimi sushi I've ever eaten so far.

*burp* This has got to be one of my favourite sushi bars! I always feel very good after a meal here - happy, satisfied and healthy.

I totally love the setting of this place! It makes me feel like I'm in a little cosy restaurant hidden in an alley in Japan. The interior is mostly wooden, and the lights are dimmed. Behind my seat, there was a hook and hanger, for businessmen to remove and hang their suits so as to comfortably tuck into their meals, just like the Japan way. Most of the workers spoke in Japanese, which further added to the cultural experience. If you want some authentic Japanese dining experience, this is the place to go.

Here's my lunch:

Pork Ramen

The portion looks a little small because I ordered the kiddy-sized bowl (I was still too full from breakfast). If you're all game for a larger portion, go for the normal sized bowl.

Condiments on the table.

My friends and I tried out the chilli solution and it was extremely spicy!

This place serves very good Korean food!

The Central mall might be a little quiet, and this restaurant may look rather expensive from the outside, but I assure you that the prices are not too exorbitant. It might not be visible from outside but once you enter the restaurant, you'll see that it's rather full during lunch times, most of them office workers.

Nice decoration at the entrance of the restaurant.

These are not edible, but actual size displays of their set meals, all looking delicious and real.

Salmon Sundubu Lunch set, $8.99
Includes Rice, Salad, Kimchi, Dessert!

Salmon Sundubu up close

After GST and service charge, I only paid $10.60 for my entire meal. The food is really nice and extremely filling. If you don't have a big appetite, you may consider sharing the set meal with somebody else. Sadly, I would have loved to finish up my food because it tasted so good and the dining experience was so enjoyable, but I was too full.

For my salmon set, there were lots and lots of salmon, together with lots of mushrooms, vegetables and tofu. To me, this is an awesome healthy and well-balanced meal, the best I've ever had in a long time. The salad tasted great too. The dessert was mixed fruits with syrup, very refreshing and gave my meal a sweet ending.

I don't think you will be able to find another restaurant serving up such a good and hearty meal at $10.60 nett in this upmarket Clarke Quay area. Their cheapest set meal is the Bibimbap set, costs only $4.99 before GST and service charge.
