Croissant Smile Apr 27, 2013
Categories : Bakery

I usually snap photos of the food I eat, but seldom photos of normal bread unless it's a favourite.

I bought this croissant randomly and thought nothing special of it - this explains the absence of a pre-eaten photo. But with each bite came more love for this croissant, and I had no idea what ultimately made me feel so compelled to stop eating just to snap a photo of this delicious breakfast.

Ham Croissant, about $2

The croissant is so fluffy yet slightly buttery it's heavenly. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy. The abundance of ham stuck inside seems to make the bulk of the size, and I thought it's rather luxurious.

In the mornings I may be up and about, but at times I don't feel like my system has synced itself to be awake on par with me yet. In such cases, heavy breakfasts turn me off. This light croissant makes for a good breakfast to cajole my system into motion, pumping energy in me as I work.

Fried Bee Hoon Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Halal

I usually visit Old Chang Kee between noon to evening time for their chicken wings and curry puffs as normal, but never knew they actually serve such a decent breakfast spread, until I walked by this stall one day (located in a prime spot).

Most of their breakfast (mee siam, porridge, bee hoon, etc) cost only between $1.50-$2.00, and sells really fast, so expect breakfast choices to run out if you reach there after 9am.

Bee Hoon + 1 vege side dish, $1.70

I wouldn't say the price is cheap considering it's only plain bee hoon and a simple vege side dish, but nowadays most food choices cost over $2.50 and considering this place is located in a part of a shopping centre, I'd say it's probably reasonably affordable for me to pay less than $2 for a good breakfast.

Requested for some fried shallots and chilli - my secret to turning this from a plain breakfast to a good one.

best fries forever Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : American

I love the name of this shop - Best Fries Forever. It has an uncanny ability to tempt me into buying with just a 3-word summary of their signature product (I love fries), and their ironical apt acronym - BFF, widely recognized to be "Best Friends Forever", basically sums up my experience while eating it.

I enjoy going for movie dates with my BFFs at Cathay Cineleisure, but before the movie starts, my BFFs and I would settle down for our favourite BFFs - I guess that's just how it is for me.

Here's my favourite BFF flavour - nachos cheese

I'm a fan of cheese so everything tastes good with this amount of nachos cheese. What's left of the deciding factor in differentiating between "good" and "awesome" is of course the food that is drenched with the cheese. Their potatoes are da bomb, and if I could rate potatoes, I'd say the quality of these are excellent. I dislike those that are starchy to the bite, but these aren't such! Fried to perfection, these fries are crispy on the exterior. I like it that these fries aren't too salty, so that the toppings can do its job of flavouring them.

Yogurt Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : Frozen Yogurt | Juices

I'm a fan of frozen yogurt (froyo), not too much that of greek yogurt. Considering that both are yogurts, it's ironical how one is heaven and the other hell for me.

I never let go of any chance to slurp some good froyo, but I felt adventurous enough to give greek yogurt another chance one day, seeing how beautiful the presentation was.

Strawberry greek yogurt, about $6.80

I was fooled by its looks, because I never expected this sweet looking dessert to turn out so sour, the main reason why I shun greek yogurts. It's original flavoured (maybe that explains the sourness), with strawberry syrup, strawberry chocolate shavings, strawberry pocky and a biscuit. The amount of strawberries inside didn't mask the sourness of the original flavoured greek yogurt.

After tasting a spoonful of it, I was unable to continue, so I had to pass on the whole cup to my friend to finish it (it's not cheap!), who actually thought it tasted awesome and that the yogurt was of good quality!

My tastebuds are probably just not lucky enough to know how to enjoy these good stuff. What I did next was to go back to the shop to purchase a small cup of froyo for $2.90 - the best way for me to pump some good bacteria into my guts, which tasted awesome for me too.

Best Mudpies! Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : American | Pasta | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

As the saying goes, "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts". If you want to cut the stress, go for desserts! What better way to do this by going to New York Dessert Cafe (NYDC)?! How apt!

Over here, I can go without a proper meal, but never without a proper dessert (that was exactly what I did!).

Once you've tried their mudpies (their signature dessert - must try!), you'll never find mudpies elsewhere satisfying again

Here's my dessert weapon to end the stressful day: Irish Cream mudpie.
French vanilla and Double Chocolate Chip ice cream with Baileys on an Oreo Base, topped with chocolate fudge and whipped cream.

If you love ice cream cakes, you're bound to love this more! It has so much more than what an ice cream cake can offer.
