nice Taiwanese dessert Smile Jun 06, 2013

On a sweltering day, what I can recommend is BlackBall, a Taiwanese chain that serves up Taiwanese desserts. I really like them and therefore happy that there are now several branches in Singapore. I always order their best-selling classic that has a bowl of grass jelly with different types of ingredients like yam balls and red beans. You must add milk to it (see picture) because that adds much flavour to it. Forget dieting.

decent food OK Jun 06, 2013

Ah Mei Cafe has several branches in Singapore. I tried the Sembawang one and I think the food served was pretty decent. I ordered this bowl of noodles which comes with roasted chicken dripping in soy sauce. This was good because the noodles remained tangy, albeit looking rather dismal in this picture. The chicken was still decent but slightly too fatty so I suggest you remove the skin and fats from the chicken before eating.

nice croissants  OK May 06, 2013

Paul Bakery is an oasis of calm in a busy shopping mall. We sat down and ordered a basket of butter croissants to share. These were really good. The butter croissants was sufficiently buttery but not too oily as some bakeries may be. The fluffiness was present when every bite brought to us 'air' as the soft bread melted into our mouth. You can get the bread heated up if you want to.

pudding OK May 06, 2013

Do not mistake this seemingly gooey mess with unappetising food. The sticky date pudding in smoked milk custard and salted caramel is a delightful thing to be had if you are craving some sweet desserts. The milk custard was not overly sweet and reminded me of the Hong Kong cantonese milk puddings. The salted caramel added a tinge of saltiness which sufficiently balanced the overall dish. Great!

shrimp Smile May 05, 2013

Saboten at City Hall serves up quite decent tempura. We ordered the shrimp tempura with pork. The shrimp itself was fried till a crispy golden brown and thoroughly delicious. The batter was not too thick, unlike places that do not do a good tempura. As for the pork tonkatsu, it was delicious because the pork meat was not very hard and the oil was well drained which made the sinful meal feel less sinful.
