Fresh sashimi OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Sushi/Sashimi | Buffet

Mitsuba by Yurine Japanese Restaurant may come across as expensive when it comes to sashimi but they are definitely very very fresh. The scallops were huge and simply melted in my mouth. We also had the sushi platter which served up quite a significant variety of sushi. The salmon sushi was good because the salmon used was as fresh as the sashimi one. The wasabi was also hand grated and therefore also really tasty when mixed with the sushi.

Grilled fish OK Jul 18, 2013

Categories : Japanese

This open door outlet in Takashimaya serves up delicious grilled fish and is indeed very popular with diners. There is always a queue when I go past there and today I decided to join in the queue. We tried the Oden and it was very good. The soft boiled braised egg was simply excellent because the braising sauce was good. We also tried the Gindara Teriyaki set and I liked the sweet teriyaki sauce. The set comes with miso soup and white rice.

Fusion food OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : Japanese

Sangokushi Ryoriya serves up fusion dishes of Japanese and Taiwanese styles, but the food here seemed more Taiwanese than Japanese. The food is not exactly cheap when the bill came up to around $100 for 2 persons when we ordered a small bottle of sake. The pork belly with leek was clearly Taiwanese inspired. The pork belly was not too bad but not exceptional. We also had claypot chicken and that fared better.

not too bad OK Jul 18, 2013

Steak Republic used to be a café before it moved to a stall in the nearby coffeeshop. There were queues during lunch-time which indicates its popularity amongst the lunchgoing crowd. We had this monstrous burger that comes with spaghetti which would surely provide more than enough carbohydrates for the rest of the day. The spaghetti was normal though. The highlight is surely the burger. The onion rings inside were really good as they were fried till a crispy golden brown. The beef patty itself was excellent. The juices were flowing and the patty was well grilled.

Poulet OK Jul 18, 2013
Categories : French | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Roasted Meat

Poulet Roti (Poulet's signature roast chicken) comes with some unknown raw vegetables, and fresh mushrooms in a creamy sauce that tastes strongly of coconut milk. This is quite unique and nice, but I wouldn't order this for myself because a significant part of the chicken is chicken breast which can be a rather large portion for one person to consume. But to be fair, the roasted chicken was quite good. The skin was sufficiently crispy and fats easily removed. The meat itself was also very tasty and not too hard which is often the case for roasted meats.
