Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Restaurant | Buffet

Went for their hi-tea buffet with my mom and it took us nearly one hour to finally found the restaurant.
We walked quite a distance but cannot find the restaurant, called the restaurant and asked for direction but still cannot find, approached the security guard we passed by and still cannot find, fortunately, and like finally, we managed to at least get nearer to the restaurant thanks to the directions given by someone who works nearby. However, even after following the directions, we still reached somewhere where the restaurant is not within our sight. That was when I called the restaurant again and eventually the shop owner( I think so) personally came to find us and led us to the restaurant. I think the shop owner was already used to it.

The food there, although small varieties, tasted nice though, especially the laksa, mee siam and some of their nonya kuehs.
Laksa - The coconut milk fragrance is rich enough
Mee siam - Just the right amount and good mixture of sweetness and sourness.
Nonya kuehs - Tasty enough to satisfy our nonya kueh cravings.

Most importantly, it only costs $8.80+ per pax!

Dim sum OK Aug 22, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim Sum

Outside this restaurant, there are chairs for customers to sit while waiting for the restaurant to open and also for customers to wait for their turn to enter the restaurant, and yes, there is really such a need.

After reading online that this restaurant is always crowded, I decided to reach before it opens. When I reached there, there were only two customers sitting on the chairs provided and my mom and I quickly grabbed a sit on two other chairs provided. Not long after we reached there, more and more customers started to join in the queue, without stopping since then.

While waiting for the restaurant to start its business, we were give some menus and an order paper to tick the dishes we want. For a first timer of this restaurant, choosing of what dishes to order can be sort of 'hard to made' decisions, as all the pictures of dishes look so tempting and apart from a wide variety of dimsums, there are quite a number of other dishes too. However, since my mom and I were only craving for dim sims, we decided to order purely dim sums.

When the restaurant finally opened, all the customers rushed in to ensure that they can get indoor seats, and the sequence of arrival does not seem to matter at all in this case. Fortunately, my mom and I managed to get our indoor seats, which did justice.

One of the main selling point of this restaurant is that it serves dim sum in smaller portions compared to other dim sum restaurants, thus, customers will be able to order more varieties. The prices are reasonable and taste of food are not bad too.

Although there are only two of us, but we ordered quite a number of dim sum dishes, in the end, there are leftovers and it is good that there provide those take away boxes for customers to take away their leftovers.

Out of all the dim sum dishes my mom and I ordered, there were some hit and miss.
The ones that managed to leave an impression in us are: char siew pau, portuguese egg tart, prawn and banana fritters, BBQ pork pastry, xiao long pau and sichuan chilli oil wanton.

The dish that left a really bad impression in us is: pan fried spring onion bread (thick bread with minimal weird tasting spring onion fillings).

Other dim sum dishes tried are not too bad but nothing special too.

Night bread promotion OK Aug 22, 2013
Categories : Bakery

They are having a 'one dollar per bread' promotion during night time and I decided to get myself a few breads.

Been craving for hot dogs thus decided to grab myself a hot dog bun to satisfy the craving.
Hot dog buns are very common and tastes almost the same no matter which bread shop you buy from, maybe only the type of sausage used is different which may then affect the overall taste.
The type of sausage used in this bun is the drier and harder type, and had a just nice saltiness which I like.
The bread is quite soft and fluffy.
The vegetables were soggy.
The chilli and white sauce combination is nice.

Beside the famous pork floss bun from breadtalk, I think this version of pork floss bread looks more appetising and in fact tasted better.
It was quite long thus worth the money.
The bread is soft and fluffy and has a sweet crust on the top which matches really well with the pork floss fillings.
The pork floss fillings were quite a generous amount and sweet and savoury but not overly sweet.

Also bought two French toast sandwiches, one with ham, cheese and potato potato filling and the other with ham, cheese and mashed eggs filling.
The french toast slices were quite thick and I had to remove one slice off from each sandwich in order to fit nicely into my mouth. French toasts are harder than normal bread slice and have a slight buttery taste which I like.
Both the curry potato and mashed egg fillings are very little, especially the mashed egg filling, which was thin and too little.
For the curry potato sandwich, I can still taste the curry potatoes around the middle, but for the mashed egg sandwich, I can hardly taste any egg as it was too little and the toast slices were on the other hand too thick.

Premium laksa Smile Jul 30, 2013

Apart from the normal laksa sold everywhere, this is more of a 'premium' laksa version, with 'premuim' ingredients added, such as king prawns and scallops, and with other common ingredients such as boiled egg, tau pok and smaller prawns. Apart from their 'premium' ingredients, the taste was actually somewhat similar to other laksas sold elsewhere. The prawns and scallops were fresh, and the other common ingredients were nice too. The soup was sweet and savoury, with a strong coconut milk taste, very flavourful. Priced at $16, this is a good indulgence once in a while if you crave for a 'premium' laksa.

Good Japanese Food Smile Jul 24, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

Mochi Cheese Okonomiyaki - $9.90: The pancake batter was adequately flavorful with the cheese strong enough to come through. The brown sauce and mayonnaise added flavours to the pancake. The bonito flakes toppings were savoury but a more generous sprinkle would have been welcomed though.

Salmon Bibimbap Set - $12.80: Served in a interestingly big and heavy stone pot. Mixed all the ingredients and the rice together and eat it, yummy.
Rice were well seasoned and salmons were fresh and tender. Other toppings such as fish roe, thin egg slices and seaweed slices help added flavours to the overall dish. This set comes with salad and soup too.
