Raw food lunch set OK Nov 13, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Bars/Lounges | Sushi/Sashimi

Situated at Orchard Central. The shop is really not hard to find. They often set lunches which is very convienent for excutives like us. They used brown rice instead of white so is more healthy. Thick pieces of salmon makes it more value for money. Comes with a bowl of soup and drink.

[Food Review] Claypot Delights OK Mar 17, 2014

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Coffeeshop | Chinese Soup | Claypot Rice

District 19 is one of my favourite hunt now since I have moved to my new place. It is always exciting to find new and yummy food near the place you stay so you need not worry about no good food to eat. I am very honoured to be one of the selected guest to join in Openrice's food tasting session again. This time round, i am not alone, Husiban join in as well to share his food review too.
Lao Wang Claypot Delights
Blk 263 Serangoon Central Drive #01-43
Singapore 550263
Lao Wang Clayport Delights first started their business 20 over years ago in JB. And they decided to venture their business to Singapore 10 yrs ago in Chong Boon AMK Ave 10 coffee shop. They currently have a few branches; one in Yishan sharing the same name call Lao Wang as well and also one in Bishan.

With its new branch in Serangoon, the shop owner vows to sell more variety of food!
so let us see what food they serve here shall we?

Sesame Chicken in claypot. According to the Boss, the chicken is marinated with sesame oil over night so that the chicken gives a very fragrant sesame smell and taste when is cooked. My personal feel is the dish is slightly too oily despite sesame oil is much healthier than normal cooking oil. A little taste of Shao Xing Wine (chinese cooking wine) will definitely enhance the taste! if those glutinous rice wine will be better!

Herbal Frog leg soup. i would say that this is the least favourite for me but Husiban's favourite. I feel the herbs is too bland and couldnt cover the "frog fishy" smell and taste. The soup gives a very fishy after taste. But Husiban feel otherwise, he loves the lingering feel after drinking effect.

Sambal seafood. The seafood is marinated before cooking it. Personally i feel the sotong is overcooked as it has been in the claypot for very long. the fish is quite fresh though. Husiban quite like the dish and took extra servings of it.

Sesame kidney and liver. this dish happens to be one of my least favourite too. I feel that the liver is overcooked and the kidney is not properly clean. so it does have some weird taste. =(

Sambal kangkong. This dish may look simple but is really very good. Cos the sambal chilli is really good! i love this

Categories : Chinese Soup | Bak Kut Teh

A sudden obsession with bak kut teh lately which is hard to explain. Unknowingly, i had 2 weeks of bak kut teh already haha. my first one will start at old street bak kut teh where i happened to drive pass upper paya lebar road over the weekend. a pleasant surprise to find lots of eateries there too.

Old Street (PL) Pte Ltd
129 Upper Paya Lebar Road
Singapore 534840

something special that draws me to this eatery is their high tech food ordering system. Not something new in restaurants but in a eatery? this is the first time i encounter this.

he whole eatery is linked using intranet system where the menu is placed on a iPad that is located at each and every table. you can view the menu and select your order on the iPad and once you confirmed, you just simply check out your food cart and the order will be transferred to their main system and they will start to prepare to serve you your food order. a very efficient way as it helps to reduce manpower to take orders!

On the menu, you can choose ala carte items or set meal. for their set meal, it is super value for money as it comes with desert as well and is only about 12 bucks. You can also choose premium ribs for your bak kut teh if you want. not forgetting to mention about their dry bak kut teh which is not commonly found in other eateries

their set meal will consist of 1 bowl of bak kut teh with premium ribs, 1 rice, 1 soya bean curd and 1 you tiao.

dry bak kut teh @ $7.00. the dried one is served in a clay pot while the normal ones are using bowls. the dried one is a little too dry and has a burnt taste plus smell. however, it is quite special as it is stirred fried with ginger and their specialty dark soya sauce or maybe some spices in it.

for those who loves premium ribs, you can also ordered it as a individual item. the bowl of hot bak kut teh will consist of 2 premium ribs. The soup is not overly peppery.

preserved vegetable is one of the must order! a small bowl that is 3 bucks which is quite expensive haha. the vegetable is quite well cooked

for those who are the tau kee lovers, do not forget to order this ! Tau kee @ $4 bucks

Banana cake

Banana Bread @ $5

the banana bread is pretty dry from the inside and is very sweet. According to the lady boss, they only use very ripe bananas and also they added raisins in it which explains why it is so sweet. From my experience of using gluten free flour, usually it is pretty dry and unless you use alot of butter. For health reasons, this bread is pretty healthy haha. also i prefer mine to serve with ice cream but they are just newly open, so we only get blue berries instead but it taste just as good. =)

I would definitely return to try out other food items on their menu.

Interesting concept restaurant OK Jan 13, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Fusion

a very interesting concept restaurant where you venture into the wu lin (sword man) world. when step into the restaurant, you are warmly welcome by their friendly staff. the dishes are also named after some martial arts skills which is quite funny actually. The food wise is very china cuisine. price wise is quite value for money as the food quantity is huge

Food : ** 1/2 (very oily)

Overall : maybe will return for more food

their "kong ba bao". this dish is quite special as they stirred fry the pork belly which is thinly sliced. it taste a little spicy but is very oily. it goes well with the deep fried bun.

sweet and sour soup. this soup is a boo boo to me. i find it quite tasteless except very sour. i don't really like the soup. but the serving is huge.

stirred fried xue cai ( preserved vege). this dish is quite nice except is very salty. it goes well with rice / porridge but if you eat it alone...i think u probably suffer from kidney failure.
