great cafe in town Smile Jun 07, 2013

Kith Cafe has been on my radar for quite some time. The previous time when I visited Toby's, I popped by Kith and wanted to have some coffee there. But the outlet is sooo small, I dismissed that thought immediately. So imagine my delight when I knew Kith Cafe is opening its second outlet right in town! It's even more convenient for me now.

There's a sign right in front of the entrance of Park Mall to lead you to Kith Cafe, so no worries about getting lost. It's situated outside of Park Mall, and its definitely much spacious than the first outlet. If the weather approves, I think sitting at the outdoor area is actually pretty nice.

My friend and I shared the Carbonara ($15), so it wasn't too gelat for us. But if you are having it alone, you may find it hard to continue after a few mouths as it's kinda creamy.

The Scrambled egg & bacon toasties ($6.50) looks very simple, perhaps that's why they served it with some strawberries. But I really like the taste of the toasties though its made up of very simple ingredients. I'm inspired to do it myself at home!

There was nothing to complain about the mocha ($4.50). But I personally didn't like the Strawberry & vanilla yoghurt milkshake ($7.50) that my friend ordered. It tasted..weird.

The cafe also serves many baked goods and even had protein shake on their menu! I thought that's quite unusual. Even though they seem to be a little shorthanded, with many customers waiting to order and pay up, I could see that the staff are all very hardworking and trying to serve their customers as fast as possible. Kudos for good service!

With limited choices of cafes in town, I believe Kith Cafe will be a popular spot among the cafe hunters who needs to get their caffeine fix when in town and that includes me ;)

Hardware shop turned cafe Smile Jun 07, 2013

Don't be fooled by the name of this cafe. It doesn't sell hardware. In fact, it's a new establishment under the Papa Pelheta group, after their roaring success of Loysel's Toy.

Here's what I ordered:

I didn't try the smoked salmon sandwich and the ham and cheese omelette but I love the french toast! I guess its really hard for french toast to go wrong. For $7, I think the portion is just nice. It's really filling but I would love to have more maple syrup.

Love the cake and brownie that they have there too! They serve a pretty decent selection of pastries and cakes other than what they have on the menu like sandwiches, pancakes and french toast etc. They have daily pairings as well, do ask the staff for more details! However, they don't serve coffee the usual way, so forget about ordering latte, cuppacino, mocha etc. If you are a noob like me, ask the staff to explain to you what each type of coffee is. My espresso with milk is something like latte but I think its more bitter.

I really like the vintage furnishing of this place and the 360 degree coffee bar that is the first in Singapore, which allows customers to see how baristas prepare their coffee. A pity that I didn't have time to explore the Annex, an area for them to hold coffee tasting lessons. But I'm pretty sure it won't be my last time there so no worries about that!

Go have a cup of coffee during this long weekend and explore this charming place. I'm sure you'll like it as much as I do smile

A quiet afternoon Smile Jun 07, 2013

This cafe that was previously known as Room With a View, and now renamed to ROOM Coffee Bar after shifting to Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC) at Labrador Park MRT, is a open concept cafe that is nice to chill at. The location may be a bit out of the way, but it attracts many OLs and working crowd during the lunch time. Other than time, it's pretty quiet which makes it a nice place to have a cup of coffee and enjoy some me time.

The carrot cake was not too bad. It's more towards the dense side and its generous with its walnuts (which I would gladly do without). I thought that the sweetness level was pretty alright but when I was halfway through the cake, I find the icing getting sweeter and sweeter.

Overall, it's a pretty nice place and they provide free wifi too. Hope to be back to try more of their food and coffee.

Excellent Hi-tea Smile Jun 07, 2013

My first time having a 3-tier hi tea set which consists of the usual savoury and sweet stuff like sandwich, quiche, tarts, scones etc. In terms of decor, I don't think The Landing Point can offer what you typically see at a hi tea setting - no lavish foodware and exquisite tea pots, but just yummy food and good tea.

The scones are served warm and wrapped in a towel. It was warm, crumbly and buttery. Goes PERFECT with the jam and clotted cream.

The lobster cone is the hot favourite among my aunt, my sis and I! YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS. I swear you won't stop at one.

The lemon tart was very tangy, but I prefer it to be sour than to be sweet. It's not called lemon tart for
no reason.

I was so full by the time I get to this. I had uncountable number of lobster cones plus other savoury stuff. But my sis said the creme brulee was very good and that I had to try it. So I did. It was good. Despite how stuffed I was, I managed to finish one.

We refilled lots of our favourite items like the lobster cones and kueh lapis. They are sooo good. Totally worth the calories. Oh, the duck crepe is realllllllyyyy good too. No kidding at all.

My aunt paid the bill so I wasn't too sure how much the whole set costs. I think its about $49++ per pax. But everything is refillable, as many times as you want. It may sound costly, but you are also paying for the ambience and view (overlooking MBS on the other side). Besides, a cup of coffee there already costs like $15. The service was also good, staff was very attentive and offered to refill our food several times. I would say its definitely worth it.

Great cakes and coffee Smile Jun 07, 2013

Artistry is one of the latest cafes opened in the Bugis, Kampong Glam area. What makes it interesting and unique is that it is a art gallery cum cafe. It encourages all people who are interested in art, be it paintings, music or drama, to join them in their little space tucked at Jalan Pinang. I got invited to the Burpple meet-up session and I'm glad they chose Artistry 'cos I've been wanting to visit it since it opened!

They get their pies from the popular Windowsill, which I would review in future. The kind folks at Burpple recommended the Red Velvet cake so I got one to try. The cake was light and fluffy and wasn't too sweet. The cream cheese went really well with the cake and with the coconut shavings, the cake was just perfecto. Artistry uses coffee beans from Liberty and I was very satisfied with my mocha (courtesy of Burpple)

Do check out Artistry if you are around the area. It is one of the better coffee places there, the other being Maison Ikkoku.
