New cafe in Holland Village OK Aug 14, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café

I was brought to this place at Holland Village that opened not long ago. This place is opened by the owners of 3 Inch Sin, famed for their molten lava cake (and of course, they do sell it here!). And since its on a weekday, they have a 1-to-1 opening promotion for their sandwiches.

The milk in the Flat White was thick enough.

The Long Black was strong enough too.

The Spam Frites is great to snack on. Savoury and slightly crisp, while not being too salty at the same time.

The Turkey Breast Sandwich had smoked turkey breast, mozzarella cheese, cranberry sauce and avocado slices placed on a wholemeal panini serves with chips. This tasted full of flavour.

The Craft is their signature sandwich, consisting of maple-candied bacon and green apple slaw placed in between 2 waffles served with chips. The waffles were crisp but slightly tasteless. The bacon and the coleslaw are not bad though.

Authentic Japanese ramen Smile Aug 14, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

After hearing rave reviews from my friends regarding a ramen place around the Bugis area, I brought my friend to this ramen shop, opened by the Ramen Keisuke chain, which is headed by the ramen king of the Ramen Champion series back in Tokyo, Chef Keisuke Takeda. This is also their 4th outlet here.

There's free boiled eggs and beansprouts. The marinated beansprouts tasted awesome and refreshing!

I had a Tonkotsu Ramen Winter with All Toppings. This was basically the normal tonkotsu ramen, one should have in the winter season. The all toppings added jew's ear, seaweed, soft-boiled egg and stir-fried pork into the ramen. The broth was thick and not at all salty, the ramen tasted chewy. The seaweed came in a big piece, something which I didn't really expect. The soft-boiled egg was cooked perfectly, silky and full of flavour. The stir-fried pork was excellent too, chewy and flavourful.

My friend had a Tonkotsu Ramen Autumn with All Toppings. Autumn is minced pork with bonitos flavour with fried mixed mushroom. The minced pork tasted great alongside with the mixed mushroom. Otherwise, the same taste for Winter applies here.

A definitely must come to place for a ramen lover. It is no wonder that this place is in the tops for best ramen in Singapore, though in comparisons to other ramens I have eaten this place will definitely be in the lead, making the 40 minutes that I have waited in the queue just to get seated worthwhile. Do get the Green Tea Cola while you are here!

HK food to consider OK Jul 10, 2013

The yam flavour from the Yam Milk Shake was very distinctive and a mixture with the yam ice-cream is a very fulfilling experience especially for people who like yam (like X and me).

The Double Supreme is a drink infused with dragon fruit. This tasted great and refreshing.

The Double Sauces Sandwich was accompanied with both cheese & pasta sauce. The sandwich wasn’t too bad but the combination with the pasta sauce tasted very different and unmatching.

The Teriyaki Chicken with Rice, which is a chef’s recommendation, is an well executed dish less the fact that there was no sauce to accompany the rice; the chicken is great but the rice is too dry.

The Salmon Fillet in Cheese Sauce with Rice is a rather disappointing dish. The salmon was not too bad, but the cheese sauce that accompanied the salmon was rather revolting. The coleslaw came warm which carried a rather sour taste (which was rather unexpected)

I probably will still come back here again (as I did for previous visits; have visited for the past 3 times). Definitely not for the 2 rice dishes though.

Great ice cream! Smile Jul 08, 2013

The Chocolatey Kit-Kat (classic) & a Hazel’s Nut (connoiseur) on a Monster Cone was a nice choice. The Chocolatey Kit-Kat had bits of kit-kat on it, making the ice cream feel crunchy and at the same time blend into the chocolate taste. Hazel’s Nut is a great combination of chocolate and hazelnut flavours with chocolate-coated hazelnut biscuits added in. I could not taste as much biscuit though the strong flavour of the chocolate-hazelnut ice cream quickly dispelled that thought.

The Om-nom-nom is a sundae which was part of a selection that was released only recently. It was slightly too sweet for a liking.

Great ramen! Smile Jul 08, 2013

For a full review and more photos, visit http://makanarts.com/2013/05/20/daikokuya-ramen-dining-paragon-b1-47/

Renamed as Menya Koji as of now, it continues to offer the same menu under Daikokuya.

The Cha Shu Shoyu Ramen ($15.80++) was slightly more saltier than the other shoyu ramens I have eaten but it doesn’t affect the texture of the ramen.

The Salmon Carpaccio ($8.80++) is a great thumbs up. The salmon blended with the Italian dressing is a great combination as the taste of the salmon along with the slightly spiced Italian dressing can be felt.

The Agedashi Tofu ($4.80++) was not too bad, although nothing surprising also.

The Tonkatsu Curry Rice ($15.80++) was not bad but the meat was rather stiff although it was crispy.

The Shiratama Cream Zenzai ($5.20++) is a red bean dessert filled with glutinous rice balls topped with a vanilla ice cream, is recommended for anyone with a sweet tooth. Remember to mix a bit of ice cream with the red beans with every mouthful!
