Comprehensive dim sum spread! Smile Jan 22, 2016
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Dim Sum | Buffet

Bao Today offers a mind-boggling array of over 40 dishes for their high tea buffet, available from 3pm. This buffet is sit-down tapas styled, so there is no need for diners to constantly get up to refill their plates! Rather, friendly servers come round at regular intervals, dishing out delicacy after delicacy that you simply cannot get enough of. The servers introduce each dish and diners simply indicate if they wish to have it, as well as the quantity of each item. Of course, being a buffet, you are entitled to unlimited servings of each item. Just be sure not to order more than you can finish! I like that you can customize the serv ing size of each dish to suit your preferences. For instance, you can order just a single salted egg yolk bun (liu sha bao), or even a single siew mai. This flexibility definitely cuts food wastage and allows each diner to zoom in on what he really wants, as you are not stuck with an entire basket of dumplings when you want only one.

The buffet spread is not fixed, as dishes may be rotated, or even added to and removed from the repertoire according to customer feedback. Below are some dishes that are certain to be mainstays as they hit the spot perfectly!

These are so crispy, and so packed with briny goodness! The fried beancurd skin rolls beside them are not too bad as well!

Sweet and crispy. A little too greasy though.

These dumplings don't just taste good, they look pretty too!

Full of bite and flavour.

Chock-full of fragrant mushrooms.

This was a little too dry and hard.

A perfect combination of sweetness and bitterness to balance out your rich feasting!

Visit Bao Today for a dim sum buffet spread of immense variety and quality! All of their items are freshly prepared within the day, hence Bao TODAY

Supplementary Information:
If you are not a big eater, you may order from their a la carte menu instead!

Rich and tasty pies Smile Dec 31, 2014

Pies & Coffee has a few outlets scattered around Singapore, but I never ventured to give them a try - until recently. Indeed, good things are worth the wait.

The Steak and Nacho Cheese Pie I ordered was absolutely delectable. The chunks of tender beef blended perfectly with the accompanying carrots, mushrooms and onions to form a hearty stew. The pie pastry was impossibly flaky and buttery, making every bite a heavenly experience. To top it all off, literally, the cheese topping was so beautifully smooth, rich and chewy, it was really buttery, cheesy heaven to the max.

A shoutout also goes out to the accompanying mashed potatoes, which were light and fluffy, yet rich and buttery. The gravy was thick and delicious, yet not overly salty. One of the best mashed potatoes I've ever had.

Do not hesitate like I did. Go grab a pie, any pie, from Pies & Coffee now!

Delicious Grab and Go sandwiches Smile Dec 31, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Seafood | Burgers and Sandwiches

Catch 'n Bite has a delectable range of largely seafood-based sandwiches, consisting of both soft luxurious rolls and traditional Louisiana-styled po' boy sandwiches.

Intrigued by this novel concept, we grabbed an Ultimate Crab roll and a Crunchin' Crab po' boy sandwich. Both were indeed impressive. The former had oodles of soft and creamy crabmeat, tomatoes, lettuce and corn stuffed in a soft ciabatta. The smooth white dressing nicely bound all the fillings together. It was a heavenly experience.

The Crunchin' Crab po' boy, on the other hand, was not as smooth and silky, but delicious in its own unique fashion. A whole soft shell crab, breaded and fried to a crisp golden perfection, was layered with garden greens and topped with a spicy sauce. The entire package was umami and simply addictive. I craved another immediately upon finishing it.

For a new and unique submarine sandwich experience, give Catch 'n Bite a try. They will not disappoint with their fresh and briny seafood creations.

Hearty steaks and grills Smile Dec 31, 2014

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Restaurant | Seafood | Steaks and Grills

Outback Steakhouse is a well-known and well-loved Australian-styled steakhouse, featuring a huge variety of steaks, burgers and seafood items, amongst others. The range of items is indeed impressive - we spent almost 15 minutes poring over the menu, unsure of what to order as everything looked so good!

We finally settled on a good mix of appetizers and combos, allowing us to sample a bit of everything Outback has to offer. The Alice Springs Chicken Quesadilla consisted of a tortilla stuffed with grilled chicken, mushrooms, bacon and cheese, accompanied by a honey mustard sauce. While the quesadillas were overall toasty and delicious, the morsels of grilled chicken breast were unfortunately rather tough and dry. A good dollop of the honey mustard sauce masked this flaw well enough though.

We also had the Aussie Cheese Fries, topped with Monterey Jack, Cheddar and bacon. A ranch dressing was served on the side. This was a plate of good old greasy cheesy goodness, so sinful but so timelessly good.

We ordered a Crab-topped Sirloin to share, and together with the two accompanying sides of baked potato and sweet potato, the portion was huge. The steak itself was tender and juicy, although there appeared to be a strange aroma wafting from it. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, but my partner seemed completely oblivious to it. The chunks of lump crabmeat were similarly soft and satisfying to the bite although the taste was a bit too pungent for my liking.

The side carbohydrates were outstanding. The baked potato was topped with the obligatory cheese and bacon bits, finished with a huge dollop of butter. It was extremely fragrant and buttery, and absolutely delicious. The sweet potato was so huge and so exceeding sweet! I certainly had not expected an entire sweet potato to be served. It was a pleasant and welcome surprise though, as its soft and crumbly texture was so moreish.

If you are looking for a classic steakhouse to have your fill of excellent grills, look no further than Outback.

Healthy, hearty salads and wraps Smile Dec 31, 2014

Simply Wrapps does in fact offer more than simply wraps. I had one of their salads previously and was impressed by the freshness of the ingredients and the immensely wide variety available. Apart from wraps and salads, Simply Wrapps also carries a range of beverages and light bites.

This time however, I zoomed in on their specialty - wraps. You may choose from a range of pre-set combinations, or opt to create your own wrap. I customized my wrap based on the outline provided by the Mexicana Fiesta, replacing jalapenos with pumpkin. The result was oh-so-good, if I may unabashedly praise my creation.

Much of the credit for my delicious wrap has to go to Simply Wrapps themselves though. As always, the ingredients were fresh and crisp. The bright and cheery colours did wonders for my mood too! Their generosity with the fillings resulted in a thick, juicy and filling wrap that was satisfying and healthy at the same time.

Simply Wrapps never fails to delight me with the freshness and variety of their ingredients. If you are looking for a quick hearty and wholesome bite, do check them out!
