Colourful sweet macarons OK Oct 30, 2013

Ever since I got to know that TWG Tea is a home grown brand that serve only premium teas, I grew fonder with this brand. As per usual the deco of the cafe always reminded you of luxury with all the bling bling and gold ornaments.

I bought 6 macarons of different flavors which included Napoleon tea and caramel, Earl Grey fortune chocolate, Bain de rose tea, macha , vanilla bourdon tea and kaya and Grand wedding tea with passion fruit. Interesting fact about TWG Tea is all the food here are infused with tea in one way or another. Personally I find the macarons here too sweet for my liking. However among the 6, I like Bain de rose the most as it has a very strong aromatic rose smell.

Located at 313 @ Somerset, Old Malaya Cafe is rather accessible via all public transport. Once you stepped into the cafe, you will feel as if you have just been transported to some cafe in Malacca. The renovation here is rather vintage and reminded you of the old Malaysia Kampong.

We ordered salted plum drink($2), kumquat drink($2), sago gula malacca($2). Over here, there is no service charge and my overall spending is only $6.50.

The sago gula malacca was rather simple with a taste of the gula malacca and some coconut milk.

Drinks were ok and not too sweet. Both the drinks were rather sourish in taste.

Overall, it's just a place for you to sit down, rest a while before you continue the shopping. However for the price, I think it's quite worth it as it's in Orchard road that you are talking about.

Spending per head: Approximately $3

Nothing special OK Oct 29, 2013

Located at The Grandstand, Modern Asian Diner (MAD) is actually not very difficult to be traveled to as there is free shuttle bus services from Clementi, Botanic Gardens, Toa Payoh MRT stations & Bukit Timah Road. On top of that, it can be easily access via PIE if you are driving.

The renovation here is simple yet modern and the dim lighting also gives people a sense of privacy while dinning in the restaurant.
On top of that, ordering of food here is really modernized and frill free. At each table, there is an ipad which you can look at the picture of the food, order and confirm your order.

WAgyu Mantou burger($14) was rather interesting. Although it's a twist from the normal beef burger, I would appreciate the normal burger more as the mantou tends to stick to the teeth while we were having it. On top of that, we felt that the beef was slightly overcooked.

Prawn roll cheese ($5.50) is rather mediocre. Nothing much to be rave about especially when there isn't much of the cheese flavor.

Beancurb roll shrimp ($5.50) is rather average.

Overall it was a very average meal that I would have no intention of returning to the restaurant unless I would want to enjoy the ambiance there.

Spending per head: Approximately $15

Lovely Almond latte OK Oct 21, 2013

I have ordered Cafe Latte ($6), Long Black ($5) and Almond Latte ($7.50) for 3 pax. The coffee I would say they were quite decent and I like the almond latte very much as it has this very fragrant nutty smell. As for the service, the staff there were quite young, friendly and helpful so nothing to complain about.

I was there at about 10pm thus there wasn't a crowd. Service here is very average but the good thing is they don't charge gst and service charge.

I ordered Fried thai seafood tang hoon ( $6), Tom yum seafood soup ($8) , Basil leaves chicken ($10) , 1 thai lemongrass tea ($2) and 1 thai lime juice ($2) and I spent $28.50 in total.

The food here is not bad but more on the salty side. On top of that, the place is relatively spacious and toilets was clean as well.
