Bear Bites OK Nov 29, 2014

Cute bear paw bun, wow! How to resist?

I saw this being advertised on the TV and decided to check this out with a friend. According to the TV program, Bear Bites originated from Taiwan, even the buns are made in Taiwan and air-flown to Singapore, seems authentic enuff! *Beaming with anticipation*

The place is not big and is outdoor (opposite Toast Box), so can you imagine dining under the hot sun in the afternoon. We were practically trying to finish the food in lightning speed! I guess it's a better choice to tabao/pack away if you are coming here for lunch. Anyway, here probably can only accommodate about 10plus people, not big in the first place.

We ordered the chicken set which is $7.80 that comes along fries and bottled polka drinks. Pay an additional $1 for cheese fries. Sigh, I wish they have more "Taiwanese" drinks like bubble teas or Aiyu. Bottled polka is such a spoiler! >.<

Frankly, I was really disappointed with the food. Other than its cute appearance which will look good in pictures, I cant really say what's good. I ordered the brown sugar bun which tasted like normal bun, the chicken was not crispy and the fries was nothing close to mention.

Before coming here, I have considered to order both the savory bun and the sweet bun (flavoured bun with gelato), and even thought of packing away some for my hubby and friend. However, since the chicken didn't turned out crispy when I was dining there, I reckoned that it would be worse if I packed away.

Long story cut short, food was really normal, but considering the price, I guess it's still worth a try. Just dun go there with high expectation like me. Sobzzz..

Restaurant Week: Fordham & Grand Smile Nov 29, 2014

Salmon Tartar

Appetizer was beautiful. The salmon was firm and plentiful. It was almost as good as a main course itself.

Green Pea Risotto

Even though it says green pea risotto, it didn't taste anything like green pea although the idea of having green coloured rice was rather refreshing. The zucchini was fried crispy with slight tinge of natural sweetness from the vegetable. Surprisingly, I was pretty satisfied with my main course, even with no meat in sight Something different from my usual fare, and likely to be more healthy! Keke

French Toast with Sabayon & Vanilla Icecream

We really loved the dessert, in fact, my favourite dish among the 3! The bitter taste of the rum sabayon (the yellow creamy sauce) was complemented by the sweetness of the french toast & vanilla icecream. A very flavorful combination with added twist of the popcorn bits. We finished it anyway even though we just had a staple food (risotto)!

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here and love to re-visit for the lobster linguini! ^_^

Pique Nique OK Nov 29, 2014

Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Burgers and Sandwiches

A pretty cafe that I visited quite a while ago with my friend. Couldn't say much about the food, which was decent but not impressive.

Classic Benedict - $12

My friend's order. To begin with, I'm not a fan of hollandaise sauce and egg benedict. Tried a mouthful to know the taste..... mmmm, mediocre. Let's move on.

Shinjuku Incident - $11.50

Innovative name but tasted just like a normal burger although the egg yolk looked so tempting. Must be my 'super' photography skills. Keke

Tokyo Connection - $9.50

In layman terms, chicken meat burger. This tasted the best out of the 3 savory dishes.

A pity that we did not have a chance to try the desserts, which Pique Nique is more known of. Oh well, it's just like going to MacDonalds and order milk tea which is not the signature dish. I think I should re-visit Pique Nique to try their desserts which are so eye-feasting before I can give them a fair critic.

Krispy Kreme OK Nov 29, 2014
Categories : American | Bakery

I got myself a half dozen, which cost close to $18. Was a bit taken back by the hefty price tag, it was almost $3 each. I thought it would be cheaper to buy half dozen, but no, still charge individually. Therefore, if you are like me, just buy 1 to try bah..

Flavors that I got: Peanut Butter, Cookie Crunch, Red Velvet, Cookies & Creme, Chocolate Dream Cake, Almond All Over

Critics for the donuts? Dun scold me, but they were really just donuts. The sweetness I think still within my threshold, which is probably considered high for most people. Great variety of topping, but can be found in other donut joints. Slightly more crispy, but not impressive. Was expecting more lor.. >.<

kinki Smile Nov 29, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Bars/Lounges | Restaurant

The name very funny hor...sound like kinky...so kinky... Oh man, it's like a rhythm. I wonder is it a Japanese word? But one look at all the animation on the wall, you will know it's a Japanese restaurant, no doubt.

Be tempted by the eye-feasting seafood sashimi!

But the sashimi very expensive, so we didnt order. SOBZ >.<

The staff so bad, made us sit at the counter and droolz at the sashimi.... Nevermind, my orders were good also, okay?

Foie Gras & Scallop Sushi - $22

The eyes brightened up on sight of the generous portion of foie gras and meaty scallop. The tiny rice roll can barely 'support' the weight lor. Thumb up for this!

Beef Teriyaki - $24

Dont be put off by the "bloody" scene, must be my camera and the not so bright lightings. This was really tender and juicy.

Kinki Okonomiyaki - $26

The first two dishes were good but not filling. We browsed through the menu, looking for something that can be filling and still affordable, and ended up with okonmiyaki.

Overall, we really enjoyed the food, with creative item such as the Foie Gras & Scallop Sushi. However, the pricing was kinda steep (we spent close to $100 for 3 items), even the hot ocha cost $4 per pax.

Guess I will probably save the place for treats on special days. Not to forget if you are seated near to the windows, you will get a good view of the Singapore River as well. =)
