Marmalade Pantry OK Sep 20, 2013
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Brunch

Came here for dinner after work. We ordered 1 pasta and soup to share as we also wanted to try their cupcakes. To our pleasure surprise, the waiter offered to split the portion for us. Well, that was the first time I came across such service! Impressive, definitely etched in my memory. And the portion was decent, after splitting it into two, which meant it was generous to begin with. =)

Our orders:

1) Field Mushroom Soup with Truffled croutons - $10

This soup will most likely appeal to people who like truffle, coz it was pretty obvious.

2)Seared Scallop Linguini with Tiger Prawn bisque - $24

The pasta was served in a soupy style, just like our Chinese prawn soup noodle. In fact, the soup tasted like one too. Probably not your choice if you prefer thicker sauce base for your pasta.

My orders for a gal outing! mad

Squid & Pork Bulgogi - $24
The squid & pork was pretty good with a nice char-grilled aroma. It will be even better (for me) if it was not so spicy. I got to eat this with a glass of ice water on standby lor..

Luckily, there were vegetables for us to wrap the bulgogi, which definitely helped to tone down the spiciness. Additional vegetables need to pay, however the waiter was kind enough to give us a few more servings free. No harm asking. Hehe

Ginseng Chicken Soup - $22
Hmm, this was rather disappointing. The soup was not flavorful enough and the chicken was a tad dry. I was expecting similar quality like the one I had in Korea since this place seems quite authentic.

Spicy Rice Cake - $14

I quite like the dish because I like anything that is starchy & sticky, erm like mochi? Beside the rice cake, that were also sweet potato, which was quite hard to differentiate from the rice cake since they were all about the same size covered with the red sauce. We were having a "hard" time fishing for the sweet potato!

Little molten sin OK Sep 20, 2013

Categories : Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

Since it was our first time here, we decided on the 3 mini platter ($7) for the variety and paired it off with a scoop of ice-cream ($3). We opted for the "safe" flavour - hazelnut, peanut butter and white chocolate.

The molten cakes tasted alright but not impressive to me. Maybe my expectation was too high but I thought since this place specialises in molten cakes, then it has to be the best to be sustainable. The taste should be one that everyone will think of this place if they want molten chocolate mah.. Somehow, it tasted the same just like those selling in the other cafes. *Shrugged*

On a good side, the size of molten cakes are just nice to enjoy the flavour, yet not too sinful. Great for ladies out there!

Value crab meal!  OK Sep 19, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Coffeeshop | Seafood | Zi Char

Recommended by my fren to try this out ~> Value crab meal at $29.80, consists of chilli crab, stingray and fried noodle. Cheap rite? Of coz I must go and try out myself!

As we dont really take spicy food, we asked to change to crab with vermicelli, no extra cost. But hor, if you want century egg crab, then just top up $5. We also changed the noodle to a vegetable dish.

Overall, food was decent although the vegetable was a tad salty & the stingray was too spicy. We also ordered the fried mantou ($0.60 cheap, $3 minimal) and dipped with condensed milk. Yum yum.

A tad disappointment  OK Sep 19, 2013

Menu during Restaurant Week

(1) Appetizer: Cauliflower Soup & Smoked Duck Salad

The cauliflower soup (soup of the day) was really bland. I almost wanted to poke my tongue with the fork to see whether the taste bud is still alive mah. And I also dunno what were the orange and green oil for? It appeared to be a messy painting to me, and it didnt help to bring up the scores for neither the taste nor the presentation.

Smoked duck & orange salad (additional cost of $6) was okay although there was over dosage of olive oil or something oily. The smoked duck was also different from what I had at other places, instead they were crispy thin slices, tasted just like bacon crisps with the same saltiness.

(2) Main course: Dory Fillet & Pork Belly

Similarly, the dory fillet was tasteless in a plate of starchy broth, which supposed to be lobster broth. Humpt, felt so cheated.. I had 'deserted' my love aka beef because of the lobster broth! I kinda regret not choosing the beef which most of the other reviewers had praises for it.

Pork belly was nicer, although the portion was just 2 pathetic slices. But just as well, since it was not so healthy to eat so much fatty meat. =p

(3) Dessert: Chocolate mousse & Panna Cotta

Thankfully, dessert was still good. We had the triple chocolate mousse and the lychee panna cotta (dessert of the day). The chocolate mousse was very rich while the panna cotta was creamy & smooth. Overall, quite good but it would be better if the chef can opt for sweeter fruits. The strawberries were so sour! >.<
