Inexpensive Japanese Food!  OK Oct 24, 2013

Teriyaki Salmon

Teriyaki Salmon

If you are bored with local food, at Old Airport Road Food Centre you can also find Japanese food. Victor's Japanese Delights offers Japanese Food at inexpensive food centre price! The queue is relatively short compared to others. I ordered the Teriyaki Salmon bowl which comes with a complementary miso soup. The salmon slice is fairly thick but it was not overcooked and moisture is retained. Most importantly it does not have the fishy smell!

Each time I visit Blanco Court Prawn Mee I will usually order some East Coast Ngor Hiang as an appetizer as I wait patiently for my Prawn Mee to arrive. They have quite a vast variety of items for one to choose. To name a few – Ngor Hiang, Prawn Crackers, Pink Sausage, Yam Fritters, Century Egg, Fishball and etc. The Prawn Crackers and Pink Sausage are superb but the Yam Fritters is rather hard and dry.

Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee OK Oct 17, 2013

If you have craving for Yong Tau Foo but is lazy to pick or select your items, you can patronize Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee. The Yong Tau Foo includes fishball, tau pok, tau kee and tau hu. My favorite is the tau kee and the fishball. The tau kee is slightly salty but after dipping into the sauce it is just right. The fishball is very bouncy and the soup is quite tasty. You can also order sides like nan ru kang kong, which is appetizing and goes well with the noodles.

Spending per head: Approximately $5

Came across this nice place, Liberty 247, during lunch. They offer set lunches during lunch hour and prices starts from $12.90 with a soup, a main course and a drink. The restaurant is dim-lit and cozy. There is a bar top counter with displays of alcohols.

Happen to see this coupon deal at $35.90 with soups, salads, sides, main courses and drinks for 2 pax. I thought it was quite a good deal so I bought some and gathered some friends to chill out. The presentation of the food is appealing and the portion is just nice for 2 pax. There is also option to add desserts at $5. We ordered the chocolate lava cake, it was gooey and chocolaty, not to my liking. mad

Chicken Rice

My colleague suggested trying YY Kopitiam for lunch one day. YY Kopitiam sells ‘zhi char’ style food and there is also a chicken rice stall within the kopitiam. Hence, you could say that there is a wide range of food to choose if you run out of lunch ideas. One colleague ordered the Xin Zhou Bee Hoon, it is oily and does not have much ingredient. Another colleague ordered the Chicken Rice, it is lightly fragrant and chicken is soft. I ordered the Wanton Mee from the chicken rice stall. The wanton is not bad and the char siew is not thick and fatty.

There is also a display cabinet full of kuehs. The kuehs were not bad and its great with a cup of coffee for tea break.

Spending per head: Approximately $6(Lunch)
