Beer Market is one of my favourite bars to go when I simply want to catch up with my friends! The interesting concept of stock market style beer prices caught my attention from the start as they fluctuates up and down according to demand level every 15mins.

Since I'm not a pro drinker or anything, I would just always try to order different cocktails and beer to try out.

Besides the alcohol, they do have an interesting menu with local flavours incorporated! Have ordered their Baked Honey Glazed BBQ Wings ($10) and it's one of the nicest wings I've tried compared to several other bars. The wings also comes in crispy and spicy.

The Satay Platter - 8pc ($6) was also really good! Regretted so much not getting more but the grill was so tender and juicy. Service was prompt as it came to pretty fast, served hot.

There was also the Carrot Cake ($10)! I can't really tell how they cooked it differently compared to the ones we get outside but this was delicious! The chili was really hot and spicy as well but matches really well with the overall flavour of the carrot cake which gave me a distinctive taste.

Overall, I enjoyed myself pretty much here. The wide variety of the beers and cocktails along with the service, ambience and awesome food would definitely attract me to going back! Will try to go earlier next time to get lower beer prices!

Slice Your Icecream! Smile Dec 11, 2013
Categories : Middle Eastern/Mediterranean | Café | Ice Cream and Gelato

After having lunch at another place in Jem, we were craving for desserts and my buddy & I went straight to Mado! It was the one place that I've always wanted to try one month before Jem opened. I'm sure many around me have heard me raving about this place again & again.

We got the Sliced Icecream - Original & Pistachio ($11.50) to share! Normal ice creams you find out there are totally made from cow's milk, gelatin and other artificial flavours. These sliced maras cut are natural organic stuff from goat's milk and Salep, a type of Turkish flour. The ice cream itself not only tasted flavour-rich and of high quality, the consistency is also perfected so that it doesn't melt easily. Recommended way of eating? With your knife & fork, it's slice-able! I was upset with the hole in my pockets but nevertheless, I still love this plate so much I'm rating it 5/5. It's worth it!

This cafe also serves halal Turkish food, pastries, ice cream & fine beverages. Unfortunately, we only had enough space for desserts and also there for one thing - the ice cream. So I can't give reviews about the other stuff. By the way, it's not easy to find Turkish ice cream in Singapore anymore, the fun tricky one at Far East Plaza already closed down long ago. So this place would probably be the place I'd go the next time I crave for chewy ice cream.

Ambushed in Europe! Smile Dec 11, 2013

Categories : European | Pasta | Paella

Jem has been my favourite hang-out place to go. My buddy and I decide to patron Ambush one weekday just because of their wider floor space & more relaxing environment among many other eateries there. First impression counts!

We had this French dish called the Poulet Roti ($17.20) which is roasted garlic & herb rubbed chicken leg with grainy mustard mash with yellow chanterelle mushrooms, reduced cream sauce & seasonal vegetables. It wasn't exceptionally awesome and definitely cannot be compared with the restaurant 'Poulet' but a good try anyway!

We also got the another French dish of Sesame Crusted Salmon Fillet ($17.80) which was served with cranberry rice, scallion capers hollandaise & garden greens. The fish may need a little more flavour but the rice & sauce were amazing!

Besides the French dishes, we figured we needed to try another European dish and this is the Spanish Ambush Paella ($14.20). It comes with white clams, mussels, queen scallop, prawns, sliced bacon and sausages. It's a very flavourful dish but just a little too liquidity than normal. I do hope the other paellas taste better considering it's Spain's national dish.

Overall, although the prices should be lowered, the ambience and service were great. I also like the concept of the casual and convenient European food. Will return to try other dishes like the the German sausages and chicken schnitzel.

Jam in the City of Angels!  Smile Dec 07, 2013

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steaks and Grills | Kids-Friendly

Bangkok Jam has always been my favourite restaurant to go for simple lunch. The casual modern bistro-styled restaurant incorporates Western spices with traditional Thai spices, herbs and cooking methods. The contemporary Thai-cuisine served are unique yet comforting to our hearts.

The Yellow Curry Chicken ($12.90) is something that I will always order whenever I'm here! If I want to try other dishes, I would recommended my partner to get this so that I can have a few mouthful of joy at least! Served with steamed Jasmine rice, the yellow curry contains some good blend of spices that are not spicy and the sweetness is not overpowering either. The chicken, carrots and potatoes are also cooked through with nice absorption of the curry and you may crave for more even after finishing one portion! It's really good.

My buddy ordered their Massaman Curry Chicken ($11.90) which is served the same concept as the yellow curry chicken. This Muslim origin Thai curry contains chicken, potatoes and nuts. It's non-spicy and taste more savoury than the sweet yellow curry. Not a bad try!

Although there were only two of us, we pretty much have big appetite to order another main dish. Decided to go with something lighter, the Papaya Phad Thai ($12.90) has brought freshness to the classic dish by replacing the rice noodle. A beautiful dish that is healthy as it's carb-free.

The Red Ruby with Coconut Icecream ($7.50) is a sin that my buddy would always order regardless of mood, weather, price or anything other factors! The refreshing coconut icecream along with the crunchy red ruby have the distinctive taste that makes him return again and again. So if you're a fan of asian desserts like him, this is it!

Overall, this will always be a place that I'll return. Service is not exceptional and can be improved but food wise, it offers some of the most comforting asian food I can find easily at affordable prices.

Quick Cheesecake Fix! Smile Dec 07, 2013
Categories : American | Coffee

Wanted a simple quick cheesecake fix after a filling dinner somewhere else at JCube! Happened to pass by Starbucks and this place is always good for simple guilty pleasures!

Ordered the Oreo Cheesecake ($6) with nice balance of cream cheese and Oreo toppings. It's not dry at all and was a satisfying dessert!
