Angel Hair Pasta! Smile Nov 17, 2013

After reading several reviews on how Saveur is a nice little place for affordable French cuisine. I have recently went there with some friends.

The place is conveniently located at the first level of Far East Plaza and the restaurant itself gives out a simple minimalistic setting with warm lightings creating a comfortable ambience.

We were kind of in a rush that day as we had to hurry back to school for lessons. Although Saveur adopts the kind of fine dining menu concept which is not supposed to be very extensive, some younger people may tend to want more options so one of my friend didn't want to have anything as main.

Therefore we decided to get their <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Saveur's Pasta ($4.90) to share among ourselves. This appetizer is a signature at Saveur. The finely seasoned angel hair pasta were lightly tossed in chili oil then perfectly twirled in a memorable way which were then topped with nicely chopped Japanese konbu (seaweed) and tiny sakura ebi (cherry shrimp), the pasta were complimented with some minced pork sauce for hint of flavours. A definite must try!

Overall, I will visit again to try out more items on their menu! Can't wait to get their duck confit, chicken roulade and sea bass dish!

Crazy Over Blackball! Smile Nov 17, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese Desserts | Bubble Tea/ Tea

Been dying to try Blackball ever since it opened its doors! Never really got a chance up till recently because the previous times were either lined with super long queues or having their signature sold out.

So I finally got a chance to try it out on a rainy evening at Star Vista, there's still customers but my buddy and I managed to get a table. There's only 3 tables inside and 1 table outside which is relatively small but it doesn't matter because people can always takeaway!

Then I've got my queue number for which my order was ready in less than a minute.

The Blackball Signature ($5.40) is their best selling star item and it can be ordered in 4 different ways - hot, warm, cold or icy. The no.1 grass jelly dessert from Taiwan consists of interesting ingredients like yamQ, golden sweet potato, yam balls, sweet potato balls, red beans and pearls. I love all of them equally!

Milk was given as an optional thing to add, it didn't affect much of the overall taste so it probably doesn't matter much. But it's good for pictures. The dessert is not too sweet and the blend of distinctive different textures of each ingredient helps to set the art of how asian desserts should really taste like.

Overall, Blackball did a great job satisfying my desserts craving and I do look forward to my future visits! Hopefully they'll have open up more outlets in the North too!

Best Chicken of my Life! Smile Nov 17, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : French | Restaurant | Desserts and Cakes | Roasted Meat

This might be one of the best places I have ever reviewed about ever since I started reviewing on OpenRice! So basically I'm a huge chicken fan and most of the food items I order would be chicken like 80% of the time.

Poulet's best dish is their Poulet Roti (Whole - $28.80, Half - $15.80) which is their signature roasted chicken. The well-marinated chicken is slow roasted to golden brown perfection with traditional French recipe, that recipe creator may just be the best person on Earth because this, I would say, deserves more than 5 stars! The mushroom Chardonnay sauce that came with it is probably the best I've ever tasted my whole life. The creamy luscious consistency complements really well with the chicken which gives you a heavenly taste of French!

As for desserts, I went ahead and ordered the Profiteroles ($7.80) which is basically 2 generously filled choux puffs with scoops of vanilla icecream, drizzled with warm chocolate sauce then topped with almond flakes. This may not be awesome to be considered a must-order dessert so I'll definitely try out other desserts like their jarred tiramisu next time I visit.

Overall, this casual dining restaurant with modern alfresco seatings ambience along with great service and menu offerings will always remain on my favorites list! Can't wait for my food buddy to confirm on our next visit!

High End Chicken Rice! Smile Nov 16, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hainanese | Food Court | Chicken Rice

What is the maximum amount you'll be willing to pay for a plate of chicken rice from a foodcourt? My precious workplace was at Marina Bay Sands, The Shoppes and there are times when I crave for simple local fare.

Located at a prominent area with high tourist traffic, rental is considerably high for the stalls at Rasapura Masters, but vendors are selectively picked so Sin Kee Famous Chicken Rice is one of them.

The Roasted Chicken Rice ($6.80) may be a tad bit pricey but it's backed with high quality fragrant rice and tender flavourful roasted chicken. The chicken meat are pleasurably thick and the chilli which came with it was nicely blended with different sweet, sour and spicy spices which enhances everything else.

Would I pay for this again? Definitely!

Red in Taiwan! Smile Nov 16, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese

I've been wanting to try out Lee's Taiwanese for a long awhile but couldn't find any chance because of the further locations but I finally got to try it this time when I visited Star Vista!

The interior design was really Taiwanese night markets' inspired and even from the outside, the restaurant is so distinctive nobody can ever miss it!

The menu is also very Asian and reminds me of Chinese New Year.

Have ordered the Braised Minced Pork Rice ($10) and although the pork isn't what we can really consider as 'minced' but rather pork belly styled, it's kind of nice because it kind of portrays the higher quality ingredients. The dish also includes different kinds of vegetables, snow bean curd and braised egg. Give everything a good mix then eat in big mouthfuls, it's really good. However, I still personally feel that it should probably be priced around $6 instead.

Have also ordered the <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Iced Red Milk Tea ($4.80) and <b style="line-height: 1.6;">Iced Green Milk Tea ($4.80) and we were probably mistaken that there's no pearls in these, we later learned that the ones with pearls cost $5.80 each instead. Furthermore, it's kind of weird that both red and green ones tasted very similar and there's no distinctive difference which was disappointing.

Overall, although my main tasted great and I really love that kind of ambience the place provides, I might probably not visit again because everything are slightly overpriced. They do provide set meals below $20 but items are limited to what I want to try. But the place would be great for people with no budget limits though!
