This outlet at the Food Junction of Junction 8 @ Bishan has quite a wide variety of dishes
ranging from Chicken with rice to Noodles.

It was dinner time, so the place was packed and noisy!
We tried the Fried Mee Siam and Hong Kong Noodle.
Clear corn soup was added at no extra charge.

Both dishes did not disappoint.
The Fried Mee Siam was not too spicy and had a mixture of ingredients and seafood -
diced tofu, egg, chives, bean sprouts, fish cake, prawns and cuttlefish.
The Hong Kong Noodle came with vegetables, egg and mock ham.
The Hong Kong Noodle was a little wet, but there was no gravy.
It tasted best when eaten that way.

The service at the stall was good and fast.
The portions were a little small, though.
Other than that, it is definitely worth going back again for. smile

This restaurant can be found inside one of the popular coffee shops in Serangoon Central.
It is close to the now-unused Serangoon Bus Interchange and functions 24 hours.
This seafood joint opens around 5pm and operates till 2-3am.

We ordered a few dishes - Fried Rice with chicken, Diced Chicken with dry chilli, Foo Yong Egg Omelette - with mushroom and Baby Kai Lan - with garlic.
We ordered small portions, but, when the food arrived, it was more like the food was for 3-4 people! Anyway, we slowly worked our way through the dishes, not wanting to waste any food!

The Fried Rice with chicken was good, except that it was a little bland.
There were many chunks of chicken, but, perhaps, the chicken could have been better marinated. The chicken pieces were not well seasoned /marinated.

The Diced Chicken with dry chilli was excellent! Mmmm!
Here the chicken had been well seasoned and, of course,
the flavour was definitely enhanced by the dry chilli and chives in the dish.
The Foo Yong Egg Omelette was a special request - we did not want seafood, so the chef offered to do a mushroom-vegetable version! That was really good and it went very well with the other dishes. The Baby Kai Lan, as always, was fresh and crisp. It was rich in nutrients and healthy.

This was our first try at this restaurant and it won't be the last.
However, the Coffee Shop this restaurant is in tends to get really busy, crowded and noisy as the night grows. I prefer a quieter dining atmosphere, so, perhaps, next time, take away is a better option. The prices are very reasonable, given the huge portions of food. Of course, cleanliness could be better, as in the case of most similar joints.
Verdict - it could be better, but, yes, I will be back!

It's easy to miss this restaurant as it's tucked away in a corner of Serangoon Gardens.
It is opposite the former location of the DBS Bank.

At first glance, one may mistake this restaurant for an Indian pub, with its glitzy exterior.
However, upon closer observation, you realise that it's a North Indian Fine Dining Restaurant.

As we entered the restaurant that was candle-lit at every table, we were greeted by Hindi music videos that were being screened on TV screens. The menu was quite elaborate, and it took a while to go through it in detail.

The friendly waiter was at hand to make some recommendations. We decided to try the Mutton and Egg Biryanis. In addition, we also ordered the Rogan Gosht and two vegetable dishes.

The Biryanis came with raita ( cucumber salad in yoghurt) and papadum ( Savoury Indian cracker). The Mutton Biryan contained generous portions of tender cubes of boneless mutton. The Egg Biryani contained two hard boiled eggs. Both the Biryanis were cooked using Basmati Rice - the best type of rice to cook biryani with - and special seasonings.
The biryanis smelt awesome and tasted the same, as well. They were not too oily and the taste was actually enhanced by the time of rice used. The long grains actually abosrbed more flavour, hence the more delicious taste.

The Rogan Gosht, a must have in any Indian restaurant, is also a mutton dish. The dish is made up of Boneless pieces of mutton simmered in a special gravy. The dish goes well with rice and breads. The first vegetable dish that we ordered had an Oriental fusion touch to it. The Gobi Manchurian was actually deep fried cauliflower cooked in a special gravy. Soya sauce gave it an Oriental touch. It was good, but didnt go very well with the other dishes. The Dhingiri Mattar - mushrooms cooked with green peas in a special gravy -
was good. The mushrooms were not overcooked and tasted great!

Overall, almost all the dishes were fantastic. The Hindi music videos in the background got a little too noisy at times and the menu was a little pricey, considering the small portions.
Well, I guess that's what fine dining is all about.
Small portions, but big on taste..will, defi-nite-ly be back for more!

The name of this cafe is interesting and the decor with orange is equally inviting.
We decided to give this restaurant a try and were not diappointed.

The Cafe serves mostly Western dishes and has many set meal choices as well.
We ordered The Lamb Chops and Baked Rice with Chicken and Mushroom.
By topping up $3.50, a set meal is created with additional soup and garlic bread and a choice of Coffee or Tea or Ice Lemon Tea.

The Mushroom Soup was excellent - full of tiny pieces of shredded mushroom that you could chew. There was garlic bread on the side to go with it.
After savouring every mouthful of the soup, the Main Courses arrived.

We asked for the Lamb Chops to be well done. Initially they came with plain spaghetti on the side, but we were allowed to change that for mashed potato. That was good, though, because, not everyone likes to have lamb chops with spaghetti.
The Lamb Chops were well done to perfection and tasted awesome with the mushroom pepper sauce on the side. They were truly the best Lamb Chops ever tasted in a while.

Next came the Baked Rice - with chicken and mushroom. As with all other baked Rice dishes, it was piping hot, but this one had a sweetish fragrant smell. Probably that was due to the herbs that had been used to marinate and season it. It was full of cheese and extremely tasty. This dish was an instant hit with me and became my must-have. It was one of the best baked rice dishes that I had ever tried.

I'm not exaggerating here, but both dishes exceeded our expectations.
The desserts looked inviting, but we had had enough for the day.
Perhaps, the next time then.

The only problem was the lack of knowledge of the waitress, perhaps a part-timer, who had to constantly go back and forth to check on information we asked about.
The cafe is a great new find and we will definitely be back there for more.

A Bakery Called Mugiya OK Apr 27, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Bakery

At first glance, I thought that Mugiya would only serve Japanese buns and cakes.
However, upon tasting the buns I concluded otherwise.

There was a good mix of both cakes and buns, as well as sandwiches.
The Chicken sausage bun had been freshly baked and tasted good.
It wasn't anything different from other sausage buns.

As for the Tuna bun, it was quite different.
The Tuna bun was shaped like a flying saucer and was flat, rather than rounded
like a bun. Upon taking a bite, I realised that there was a lot of tuna filling inside the ''flat'' bun. It was, indeed, a different presentation altogether.

Overall, it was ok - the service was good and fast, but the prices were not as reasonable as one would have expected them to be.
Perhaps, next time, i will try the cakes.
