Popcorn Chicken and Potato OK Dec 23, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Fast Food | Halal | Korean Fried Chicken

On a random visit to The Star Vista, my sister insisted that we try out the food at this Korean Fast Food restaurant named Nene Chicken. But when we reached, the place was packed. So we just decided to get the Nene Pop for a taste test and look for another place for dinner.

In my opinion, I find that the Nene Pop ($5+), which comes with a drink of your choice, and a small platter of popcorn chicken and potato puffs, was expensive. It comes in a drinks cup and then 1/4 from the top, there is another layer to fill the finger foods. The popcorn chicken and potato puffs is nicely fried, crispy and all but i was a little miffed by the portion. It comes with sweet and spicy sauce and so the chicken and potato is not that dry. Even so there is the drink if one gets thirsty from eating all that fried stuffs. So although the portion is small, it is quite an innovative idea to put the drink and food in one container that is easy to eat on the go.

Pork Katsu Rice OK Dec 23, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Food Court | Rice

I was having lunch at The Star Vista and i ordered this set which comes with fish and pork but I told the staff i did not want the fish. Thus i only had the pork and was only charged $4.90 for the set. Talk about flexibility! lol

Anyway the set was quite filling on the whole, with the generous amount of pork katsus. The set came with miso soup which completes the meal. But like so many Japanese food stalls in food courts and restaurants alike, it does not really differentiate itself from one or the other. The pork katsu was quite juicy though a bit tough to bite, meaning it is quite chewy. I appreciate the fact that they gave some mayonnaise to pair with the otherwise quite dry meat.

Macadamia Nut Yoghurt OK Dec 23, 2013
Categories : Frozen Yogurt

I was feeling a little adventurous today and so I decided to try the Macadamia Nut yoghurt at Yami Yoghurt (YY), away from the usual Natural flavour. Besides it's the first time i have seen the flavour appearing at YY.

Macadamia Nut Yoghurt with Fruity Pebbles ($3.25)

I ordered it with Fruity Pebbles (my favourite choice of toppings though YY offers a wide selection, like raisins, nuts and also fruits). My first impression is that the Macadamia nut taste is so faint that it's hardly noticeable. I tried very hard to locate the taste but it's just so weak. Even my sister who tried a bite said that if i hadn't mention that it was Macadamia Nut, she had think it was the Natural Flavour one. Quite a let down flavour-wise but it is still a nice dessert to have.

Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Set

Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Set

I had dinner at Jem the day before yesterday at Chai's Nihon Ryori at Cook House, which is located on level 5. Anyway I ordered the Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Set ($5.50) but I did not see any grilled chicken meat when i received the food. Quite disappointing. It's fried chicken meat served with teriyaki sauce. The chicken is nicely fried, crispy but i think the ratio of chicken skin to meat is 2:1. sad So I shall pretend I ordered chicken skins (like the kind served at Wadori tongue, + fats) for dinner. Hahaha. The chicken meat is abit chewy but the the teriyaki sauce is quite nice. Gave the meat some flavour.

Categories : Noodles

Was feeling hungry after work and decided to head to the nearest 24-hour eatery around - E.A.T. Anyway I went around 11.45pm and there was a long queue, extending to near the entrance of the small cafe. I ordered Fishball Noodles - Dry ($3.30) before it was announced that they ran out of fishballs. The people behind had to make do with Bak Chor Mee. Anyway the cooking took quite some time and by the time i was seated with my food it's around 12am.

As you can see, it's quite crowded despite it being 12 midnight, though the queue has somewhat subsided.

Fishball Noodles

In the Fishball noodles, there's like 3 fishballs and quite a few fishcakes. I like the fishcakes better though. Maybe they are just pleasant to eat while the fishballs is a bit tasteless. The noodles didn't taste that great also. Although i saw that the chef added a full spoonful of chilli, it's still so-so only. But given the price, i think its not too bad already. They also supplied a bowl of the soup (not pictured). The soup tastes al-right i guess.

But one thing that does not appeal to me is the wet trays. It just gives off a unhygienic feeling.
