Chicken Rice Smile Dec 31, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Food Court | Chicken Rice | Kids-Friendly

Finally Banquet that has been renovating, past their supposedly opening date, finally opened. I went there to get my favourite chicken rice at the now-named food court – Cantine. The staff who served me was warm and friendly.

I got the Roasted Chicken Rice ($4.80) and got my favourite part of the chicken, chicken wing! Anyway they also gave some extra meat because the chicken wing portion does not have a lot of meat. The meat is a little bit tough but it is still quite easy to chew and it is juicy. The rice is also quite fragrant and I like the chicken rice when it is paired with the chilli sauce.

Roti Mum Smile Dec 31, 2013

When I hear about Roti Mum it never fails to tickle me silly because it reminds me of the few other variations which I have heard of last time, like Roti Boy.

Anyway when one passes by this stall, it is difficult to not catch whiffs of coffee breads cooking in the background! It tempts one to buy one immediately and savour it while it is hot out of the oven. I bought the original flavour one ($1.50) and it was still warm. The bread is a bit crumbly with a bit of a chewy, somewhat fluffy and yet dense texture. The bun does not have a very strong coffee taste, it is just right, not too overwhelming. I like that at the centre of the bread there is this layer of butter-like filling which adds flavour to the bun. It’s a good combination and one of my all-time snacks.

Awesome Mee Goreng Smile Dec 31, 2013

It has been a long time since I tried the Mee Goreng at this small restaurant and I am glad I wasn’t in for a disappointment. I placed an order at the counter and went to get seats while the cashier told me that my food will be delivered to me.

I waited around 5-10 minutes. It was worth the wait. The Mee Goreng ($6.30) came with an egg and chilli sauce. The chilli sauce is not added in which is good because it might be too spicy for people who don’t take or like chilli in their food. I mixed the chilli in for the extra oomph in the noodles. It is quite similar to the tzi char version but the noodles are darker and definitely more flavourful. It has prawns and bits of fish in it which were a bit chewy. There is not a lot of ingredients, just right to allow you to enjoy the noodles and the taste without being disrupted by too many different tastes and textures. It is a saltier and not as dry compared to the Indian Mee Goreng. The standard of the food has not dropped which is good to know and I would continue to return for more!

Unique Egg Tarts Smile Dec 31, 2013
Categories : Bakery

Fancy Delights started out small but have since grown from a modest pastry shop that has grown to now boost an extensive range of egg tart flavours.

While walking around IMM, I was glad to see that the shop is still around. I tried their original egg tart and I love the crumbly thick egg tart crust. It is not too buttery and thus not too sweetening. The custard within is also very soft and silky with a pudding-like consistency. Thumbs up to Fancy Delight for the tasty egg tart!

I will definitely be back to try their more special flavours like the Kiwi and Pandan Red Bean.

My sister brought my mum and siblings to try Blackball and I tagged along for the ride. We ordered the Blackball Signature - Warm ($5.40), Mix and Match – Cold ($5.40) and Blackball Crushed Ice ($4.90).

The Blackball Signature and Mix and Match both comes with creamer which I think is a unique addition to the dessert. It helps to sweeten the desserts besides the ingredients already present in it. For the Mix and Match I got the Ice Jelly, Pudding, Nata de Coco and Red Bean. I originally wanted to get the Grass Jelly and Fresh Milk but the cashier told me that it is already included in the dessert (not the fresh milk but have the creamer). I like the pudding cause its sweet and the ice jelly and grass jelly is very jelly-like and quite chewy. The Blackball Signature is also another great option but I least enjoyed the Blackball Crushed Ice. Didn’t have much flavour in it.

I was not really impressed by the service though. When we were at the cashier, she was counting money so my sister and I waited. Then she says to go on ahead and order but when we did, I had to repeat some of the ingredients for the Mix and Match one. Secondly when we collected our items, there were only 3 spoons. We asked for 3 more and they passed 3 plastic spoons reluctantly.

The small dessert shop is clad in black and white and offers a no frills dining experience. The desserts are really good and I would come back to try their drinks. Celebrity Zhang Yaodong seems to endorse the brand.
