Cakeeeee~ Smile Nov 14, 2013

I love cakes and one of my favorite kinds are cheesecakes. I am also addicted to beautifully designed cake shops. And you know how the Koreans are so good with branding and packaging.

So imagine my excitement when i caught wind of a new bakery in town named Paris Baguette. (It was kinda new to me considering i was away when it first opened and started hearing about it from friends.)

I been to the outlet at Wisma Atria but it was ALWAYS so crowded. Maybe the times i frequent (weekends and weekdays evening) are just bad times to go since its like the peak period for F&B outlets.

Anyway I was quite lucky one day when i managed to score a table at the back of the cafe.

I ordered the New York Cheesecake (see, i can't resist cheesecakes) while my friend had the Hill Earl Grey cake. The NY cheesecake can get quite cloying after eating for quite some time so i think i took a while to finish the whole cake. Still i liked it since the cheese flavour was really solid compared to the other cheesecakes i had before. I also like the crust at the bottom and it adds to the overall texture of the cake.

I also tried the Hill Earl Grey cake and i really liked that the tea flavour was not too overwhelming and it was not too sweet. Good for people who doesn't have too sweet a tooth! <3

Kudos to Paris Baguette for the fantastic, whimsical decor which is definitely attracting lots of people. Their extensive menu of drinks, main courses, salads in addition to their array of cakes and breads on display does tempt one to return again for another sweet (or savory) treat!

I have been meaning to try the desserts and pastries served at Paul Bakery, a French Patisserie after passing by their outlet at Orchard. Luckily Westgate have an outlet too and while I was spoiled for choice on what to get, the staff recommended me to try one of their limited edition pastries which is only available once a year. Tempted I got it though I am not exactly sure what it is.

The pie costs $5.50 and has a crumbly texture. The inside is also has this filling but I was unable to discern what it is made of. The tart is not too sweet and is a nice treat for those who dislike sweet stuffs. The serving is also quite big in which the tart almost filled the entire box.

I had be back to try more of their desserts and also their main course dishes!

Salmon Set Smile Dec 23, 2013

Categories : Japanese

One day while out with a fellow colleague, he recommended me to try the food at this restaurant which i never knew existed at Takashimaya. It is tucked away at the farthest corner, hidden among the many gems at Taka Food Hall.

Anyway we ordered the same set, Salmon ($11.50). We first place our orders before we are directed to the only seats available, which was the counter seats. Oh well. The place was still quite full though it was a little after lunch time. We were seated and had to wait a while for the food to arrive.

Although i am taken aback by the price, it proved to be worth every cent. The salmon is quite fresh and also cooked to perfection. It's just so fresh that it hardly needs any seasoning. Though the sauce that came with it is great too! The portion is a little small but i think it makes up for it with the overall quality of the meal! Anyway the meal comes complete with salad, so you get your protein and your green nutrients. tongue

The overall decor of the restaurant is plain and simple but the food is definitely thumbs-up the best. No harm coming back to try their other food!

Wanton Noodles at Graffiti Cafe Smile Dec 19, 2013

was wandering around the top level of Jem, thinking of what to eat when i chanced upon Graffiti Cafe. This place serves Pontian Wanton Noodles! But the interior is a bit unique. The walls have graffiti-esque sprayings on all the walls, and even scribblings left by previous customers. However, the tables and chairs looks as if it belongs to a kindergarten with its pastel colours.

Anyway i placed my order. I got a bowl of Pontian Wanton Noodles ($4), though they have a set meal which comes with the wanton noodles and a hot drink or hot dessert (tao sua, red bean etc). I was feeling thirsty and so i opted for the ala-carte noodles and got a canned drink for $1.30.

I was handed the disc which will light up when the food is ready. The ingredients looks as if it has been placed there haphazardly. But it is still the Pontian noodles which i know and love! Yummy~ The noodles are tossed in black sauce and i added chilli for the extra flavour. The noodles are also not soggy and cooked just right.

White Chocolate Chip Bun Smile Dec 16, 2013

Categories : French | European | Bakery | Café | Desserts and Cakes | Burgers and Sandwiches

My colleague introduced this bakery to my other colleague who then introduced the delectable breads from this shop. Sophie Bakery is modelled after a little European shop with dainty displays of tarts, slices of cakes, breads (focaccia and baguettes). Sometimes they also have bite sized samples of loaves of breads which you can eat to your heart's delight (provided you don't have a guilty conscience eating one too many). tongue

The shop's interior and exterior is all decked for Christmas. Inside, there is a small train display running on the counter. Very charming.

Anyway i was talking about this White Chocolate Chip bun ($1.90). Its not expensive and yet its very filling. Do not belittle it by its exterior. The bread is very dense, filled with bits of white chocolate chips. Besides the crunchiness of the chocolate chips, the strong hint of white chocolate in the bun adds to the overall taste of the bread. Thumbs up for this bread!

I have not really tried their other items except the bread and their Cranberry Cookie. The cookie, like the bun, has a light but its-there Cranberry flavour. It crumbles the way a cookie crumbles too.
