Watami Sets Smile Dec 16, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I headed for dinner with a group of friends the previous week and we went to Watami. With a big group, we ordered 2 of the same sets but with different side dishes as well as a few other ala carte items.

I think the set is more economical than ordering ala carte and you get to share and try different items. Each set costs $49. Our sets came with the following:

Of course, the main dish is

The sumptous sukiyaki pot filled with lots of goodies! lol

We also ordered a pizza to share and its really good! You know how amazing it is when the Japanese restaurants are equally good or better at creating Western dishes? Or maybe its just their take of the dish. I always though its quite costly eating at Watami but with the sets, its quite affordable.

Starbucks have launched a promotional strategy whereby starting from 1 Dec till 12 Dec there are different promotions one can look forward to each day.

Today its Starbucks Christmas themed drinks 1 for 1, limited to one set per customer. Its not the first time the popular cafe chain has such a 1 for 1 deal so I was quite skeptical whether to join the long queue that formed outside Starbucks.
Long queue

Anyway the queue moved quite fast and i got my drinks in less than 20 minutes. I got the Toffee Nut latte and Peppermint Mocha.

I like the layout of the cafe. When you are queuing, you will pass by the merchandising cabinet with all the mugs and tumblrs. Meet the shopping needs of customers while waiting in line.

Toffee Nut Latte and Peppermint Mocha

Toffee Nut Latte and Peppermint Mocha

The toffee nut latte tastes good! I liked it better than the peppermint mocha as it is not as sweet.  The peppermint is essentially mocha with peppermint bits. Gives the drink some texture. I liked both drinks but I think I had return for the toffee nut latte.

Recommended Dish(es):  Toffee Nut Latte, Peppermint Mocha

Spending per head: Approximately $8(Other)

Berry Good Milkshakes Smile Nov 25, 2013

Categories : American | Ice Cream and Gelato

When one sees Haagen Dazs, one thinks of ice-cream. However when I see Haagen Dazs, I think of terrifically tasty milk shakes. After dinner at the vicinity, my friend and I decided to seek refuge at Haagen Dazs away from the bustling pub scene. The café was relatively empty and so we managed to get snag a booth seat.

I ordered the Berry Cool, which consisted of raspberry sorbet, milk, topped with strawberry ice cream and lined with strawberry sauce. Y-U-M-M-Y. One of the best milkshakes ever, but considering it’s hefty price tag, it has to at least prove some point. Which it did. Good place to chill and have ice cream or just drinks.

Bon Appetite in Mini-French Smile Nov 25, 2013

I have been seeing a lot of Poulet outlets sprouting up in many different outlets in Singapore and so one day I decided I had to go check out their menu.
Dinner at Poulet

Dinner at Poulet

We started with Saucisson, which are essentially pork sausages. They were juicy and practically bursting with flavour. So good. Oily but good.
Poulet Roti

Poulet Roti

We also ordered the Poulet Roti - Signature Roasted Chicken. Its creamy and the chicken was cooked so soft that one can peel the meat off easily.

Next was the Oxtail de Bourguignon (oxtail in red wine sauce) which was quite pleasant. However i am not a big fan of beef so I couldn't really appreciate it as compared to my friends.
Country Side Mushroom Soup and French Onion SOup

Country Side Mushroom Soup and French Onion SOup

Besides the mains, we ordered French Onion Soup and Country Side Mushroom Soup. While the onion soup turns out to be a very sweet soup, the mushroom soup is the best among the two! The latter was surprisingly tasty. One sip and you know immediately that its mushrooms.
Tiramisu

Tiramisu

What better way to end a meal then some dessert? We ordered Tiramisu, a hot favourite among the other patrons (we observed many people ordering it). The size and manner which it was presented makes it seem like value for money. It’s creamy, soft, and fluffy. Great for sharing.

Poulet seems like a good idea if you adore French cuisine. Do head on down to the restaurant closest to you for a taste of France.

Awesome meatballs Smile Nov 19, 2013

Categories : Western Variety | Café | Halal

I have never tried Swedish food before unless you count the meatballs from Ikea. So one day I decide to head to Fika Swedish Cafe and Bistro, which also happens to be halal! lol

My friends and I ordered Cheesy Potato Wedges ($8.90), Pannbiff ($19.90), Meatball Melt ($17.90), Aglio Olio with shrimps ($22.80) and Grilled Chicken crepe ($17.50).
Pannbiff and Cheesy Potato Wedges

Pannbiff and Cheesy Potato Wedges

At the top, is the Pannbiff, which has a hamburger patty, salad and mashed potato on the side. While dining, we find that there is not enough sauce to go with the mashed potato. Thus we asked for more sauce from the staff and they obliged. (Talk about good service!)

At the bottom is the cheesy potato wedges topped with melted cheddar cheese. Cheese goes great with just about everything and this made a good appetizer! (Warning: it may become too cloying if eaten alone so best to share!)
Meatball Melt

Meatball Melt

I absolutely love this open-topped sandwich. The bread is toasty and crusty and the meatballs is so so good. When eaten together, its like a match made in heaven.
Grilled Chicken Crepe

Grilled Chicken Crepe

The crepe looks plain but do not be deceived by its looks. Plain but really tasty. Talk about savory!
Aglio Olio with Shrimps

Aglio Olio with Shrimps

Last but not least, the Aglio Olio with Swedish fresh- water shrimps. If you order the Aglio Olio itself, it costs $14.90, and you can choose from chicken, meatballs, smoked salmon or shrimps. I would highly recommend meatballs if you want to eat pasta and try the meatballs. This is because among all the dishes, the ones that left a really deep impression are the Pannbiff (hamburger patty) and the Meatball Melt (meatball sandwich). Therefore if you get the meatballs and pasta, its like the best of both worlds!

The cafe is beautifully designed although the ambience is a little dim compared to the Millenia Walk outlet. Still it is a good place to go for Swedish meatballs!

Spending per head: Approximately $25(Dinner)
