My sister brought my mum and siblings to try Blackball and I tagged along for the ride. We ordered the Blackball Signature - Warm ($5.40), Mix and Match – Cold ($5.40) and Blackball Crushed Ice ($4.90).

The Blackball Signature and Mix and Match both comes with creamer which I think is a unique addition to the dessert. It helps to sweeten the desserts besides the ingredients already present in it. For the Mix and Match I got the Ice Jelly, Pudding, Nata de Coco and Red Bean. I originally wanted to get the Grass Jelly and Fresh Milk but the cashier told me that it is already included in the dessert (not the fresh milk but have the creamer). I like the pudding cause its sweet and the ice jelly and grass jelly is very jelly-like and quite chewy. The Blackball Signature is also another great option but I least enjoyed the Blackball Crushed Ice. Didn’t have much flavour in it.

I was not really impressed by the service though. When we were at the cashier, she was counting money so my sister and I waited. Then she says to go on ahead and order but when we did, I had to repeat some of the ingredients for the Mix and Match one. Secondly when we collected our items, there were only 3 spoons. We asked for 3 more and they passed 3 plastic spoons reluctantly.

The small dessert shop is clad in black and white and offers a no frills dining experience. The desserts are really good and I would come back to try their drinks. Celebrity Zhang Yaodong seems to endorse the brand.

Army Stew Smile Dec 31, 2013

I brought my friends to Wang Dae Bak to try their Korean BBQ. My friends and I reserved a place in anticipation of their packed restaurant but we still ended up waiting like 10 minutes. It could be because not all my friends arrived yet and so we had to wait.

Besides ordering the meat, I also ordered their Army Stew ($30+) in a bid to try something different. The Army Stew is best for sharing with its huge portion. Though it only came with one serving of ramen, there are a lot of ingredients in it so it was quite filling.

Feast fit for Kings OK Dec 31, 2013

A group of friends and I headed to The King Louis for dinner. The restaurant offers a medieval feel coupled with “fortresses” and “knights”. As I came with a large group, my friends and I ordered quite a few dishes to share.

We ordered the Norwegian Salmon which tastes like the salmon which I can eat at home too. The skin is crispy, and the salmon does not have a strong fishy taste so it is good. Below the salmon are vegetables with mushrooms. Which somewhat acts like the filler ingredients.

The Poulet Chicken tasted quite normal but it is a little dry. This too comes with vegetables and fries.

We also ordered pork ribs, which appears to be a popular dish and so we ordered whole. The meat is well cooked as it is tender and very easy to get the meat apart from the bones. The bbq gravy seeps into the fries below giving the fries a nice bbq taste as well.

The cheesy chicken is nice with the cheese on top. Can remove the cheese quite easily though. It tastes slightly better than the poulet chicken cause of the extra cheese element. It was also less dry and more juicy.

My friends ordered the Roasted Beef but I didn’t really try. The waiter showed slight displeasure when my friend asked if we could get one piece rate and the second piece medium rare. shocked The waiter also tends to correct peoples’ pronunciation, such as when I pronounced Salmon incorrectly, and this can be a little annoying. The waitressing staffs were so busy that they also forgot our requests to refill our water several times.

Happened to pass by Rive Gauche in JP and decided to buy their desserts after looking at their wonderful display of cakes. I got the Brownie Bear ($6.50) and Crunchy Cheese Crumbs ($5.80).

I am not a big fan of chocolate but I got the Brownie Bear cause of its cute design. The bear cookie on top was just too cute to resist. Anyway its’ aptly named since the base was made up of chocolate cake filled with walnut bits. The chocolate cream on top was very creamy and yet not very sweet.

The Crunchy Cheese Crumbs comes in a small plastic bowl and the top and bottom was lined with cookie crumbs while the middle is made up of cheesecake. The cheesecake is not too dense and so it’s quite a light dessert. I recommended my mum to have a try because it does not have a heavy cheese flavour.

Though the cakes is a little pricey considering the portions, it is definitely worth the price for the taste and quality of the cakes. The price matches the overall feel of the shop and packaging of the cakes too.

Nasi Lemak OK Dec 31, 2013

Punggol Nasi Padang, as its name implies, serves nasi padang and also other food like nasi lemak and roti pratas. They also have a drinks stall. It’s not a big restaurant since the kitchen and serving area took up some space but still there are seats available.

I had the Nasi Lemak at this stall and was quite disappointed with the food served. They have a few sets to choose from and I got one of the pre-determined sets but I changed the chicken wing that comes with it to ikan bilis. Besides which, it came with otah, fish and cucumbers. The otah tasted quite hard, and wasn’t nice to eat at all. The fish was better and they gave 2 pieces which was quite generous. But like the otah, feels as if it has been left for some time after being cooked and felt cold when eating it. Still, the fish was quite salty and palatable. The chilli is super spicy though! Wished there was more of the anchovies in the ikan bilis to lend somemore flavour to the ikan bilis.
