Unique Eggs Ben Smile Feb 03, 2014

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Coffee | Brunch

The cafe was pretty spacious and there were quite a few kind of seats available - there was a big round communal table, normal square tables and bar seats.

I had the Organic Eggs Benedict $25, which comprises of chive hollandaise, 2 organic poached eggs and pulled braised ox cheeks on sourdough toast, with rocket leaves on the side.
The eggs were EXCELLENT, yolk was runny and even the egg white was just slightly runny. I also loved the hollandaise which was a little different from the usual ones you get from other places because of the addition of chives. The pulled ox cheeks were also lovely, moist and tender and flavourful. However I still do feel that the price is a bit much, definitely not for the common man.

Their service was also pretty good - the staff were prompt and friendly and they refilled our cups on their own accord, something that I don't really notice in many brunch places in Singapore.

Green Tea Frap Smile Feb 03, 2014

Green Tea Frappucino

Green Tea Frappucino

Had some time to while away and I had a free $10 Starbucks card, so I decided to pop by to get a drink.

I'm not really a coffee drinker so I got the Green Tea Frappucino (Tall) $6.40, with whip cream. The drink was nice and the matcha taste was just right, sweetness was also okay for me which was good, as I don't have a sweet tooth. I took the bar seat which overlooked the lower floors of the mall. Nice place to just stone/people-watch or read a book smile

Delicious food! Smile Dec 19, 2013
Categories : Indonesian | Halal

We were here on a weekday night. Since this was in the CDB area and it was after office hours, the entire mall was rather quiet, including the restaurant. However, while we were here, there were about 10 other tables that were occupied too and just like us, everyone seemed to be enjoying their food very much smile

While we were waiting for our food, the waitress served us a small basket of belinjau chips (chips that are made from the belinjau fruit) like most other Indonesian restaurants do. We thought these were complimentary however we realized that they cost $1.20 when we looked at the receipt. I think they should let customers know that they aren't complimentary as just serving it to us without saying anything is very misleading. I guess this is like how Chinese restaurants serve peanuts which are actually not complimentary.

We ordered the following 2 dishes to go with our rice, which was wrapped in banana leaf, giving the rice a subtle fragrance. The rice is free-flow so don't be shy to ask for more servings to go with the delicious dishes!

Petai Beans with Sambal
Petai beans are not commonly eaten in Chinese cuisine, I think it's more common in Malay and Indonesian cuisine. For those who have not heard of petai beans, they are flat beans that are green in colour, and when they're cooked, the texture is crunchy and brittle in a good way. I LOVE petai beans hence when I saw this on their menu, I immediately ordered it. Their petai beans are stir-fried in sambal, a very lovely sweet and spicy sauce. The beans were nice and crunchy (very addictive) and the sauce was extremely yummy even on it's own. Just give me the sauce to eat with plain white rice and I'd be happy tongue

Fish with Otah
This was a whole fish with otah paste slathered over and around the fish, 'marinating' the fish with the otah spices in the process. The otah here wasn't the firm type of otah you tend to eat outside. Instead, it was kinda watery and mushy but not in a gross way, it still tasted very good.

We saw that most of the other tables ordered tahu telur, will try it the next time we come back! smile

P.S. There's 15% off everything for Citibank cardholders, no min spend!

Tender and smooth frog legs! Smile Dec 16, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Porridge/Congee | Noodles

For those living in the West, this is a good place to satisfy your frog leg porridge cravings instead of having to trudge down all the way to Geylang! Also, the good news is that the food is cheaper here! I remember paying $25 for 3 frogs and porridge for 2 pax at Geylang while it's just $20 for the same amount from this stall at Block 491.

It's my 2nd time here.. the first time we had the gong bao frog legs (frog legs with dried chilli) and this time we had the ginger & spring onion frog legs. Other than the fact that one is spicy and one isn't, the taste and looks of the 2 types are similar to me, where both pots of frog legs come in a thick dark salty sauce. Personally I prefer the gong bao frog leg as it had more of a kick. I also found the ginger & spring onion version a tad salty. Either way, the frog meat is really tender, smooth and kinda bouncy in a good way and the meat comes off the bones easily - super duper shiok to eat! smile Even though we ordered 3 frogs to share among 2 of us the two times we were here, the portion seemed a lot more the 2nd time. Maybe we will just order 2 frogs in the future.

This is the pot of porridge that was served to us, the portion was just right and the porridge was really smooth. It was a little tasteless on it's own but it was not an issue for me as I like to mix some of the lovely sauce from the pot of frog legs into my porridge, and the result is an even smoother and tasty porridge smile

This place is definitely worth a try for frog leg porridge lovers!

Yummy Bibimbap! Smile Dec 15, 2013
Categories : Korean | Hawker Centre

I live near ABC market and this Korean stall is my 2nd fav stall at this market!

I always either have their bibimbap or kimchi fried rice, which I think are really yummy for its hawker price. I've always liked bibimbap as it is a rice dish that consists mostly of different vegetables hence it is pretty healthy - I like how there's a little bit of each type and the crunchiness you get in each mouthful.

This is the bibimbap ($4) in a takeaway container, consisting of a sunny side up, meat (chicken/pork/beef, bean sprouts, julienned cucumber and carrot, seaweed and kimchi with Korean chilli sauce on the side. Their sunny side up is always done perfectly smile, and the portions of meat, veg and chilli sauce are just right such that all the rice and ingredients are nicely coated with the sauce (not too much or little) and you won't have to worry that each mouthful will only consist mostly of rice.
