Satisfying lunch :D Smile Dec 09, 2014   (Related Review)

Was craving for their Niku Udon (beef udon) which is one of my favs at Sushi Tei, so I decided to head there for lunch to satisfy my craving.

Niku Udon

Niku Udon

What I love about this dish is the generous amount of beef and how tender the meat is. The udon is also soft and chewy. Combined with the soup and seaweed, this is really comfort food for me smile However the soup this time round was a lot cloudier and oilier than normal, which is very strange because I've ordered this dish many times and the soup is always very clear. Not sure what happened today...however the taste of the soup was still equally good.

Ebiko Avocado Maki

Ebiko Avocado Maki

Was feeling peckish so I also ordered some sushi for myself - Ebiko Avocado Maki. I wished there was more ebiko (flying fish roe) but I was still very satisfied with this maki. I really loved the soft creamy avocado within...makes me want to have more of it right now!

I don't think the food at Sushi Tei is all yummy but I definitely love the 2 dishes I ordered today and they have been consistently good too.

Nacho Cheese Filet-o-fish Smile Dec 08, 2014

I've never really liked the tartar sauce they use for filet-o-fish and sometimes I'll put in a special request for them to exclude it. When I heard that they now have nacho cheese filet-o-fish as a permanent item on the menu, I was so happy!

Even though the nacho cheese seems very little in the picture, the portion was ok for me (of course if there's more it'd be better!lol) I really think that the pairing of nacho cheese with fish filet is perfect and also wonder what took them so long to combine these two together? tongue Anyway, it's definitely gonna be only nacho cheese filet-o-fish for me from now on! smile

Hokkaido Ramen in Pork & Seafood Soup Base

Hokkaido Ramen in Pork & Seafood Soup Base

I'm really picky when it comes to ramen because I find that most soup bases are too thick for my liking hence it gets jelat very quickly for me. That's why I like Tampopo's pork & seafood soup base. I find that the seafood helps to lighten the taste hence I don't get sick of the soup. I actually drank most of it whereas at other restaurants I usually find that I've to force myself to finish the food because of how jelat they make me feel. The ramen was also good - springy and didn't taste starchy. I also added an egg (not shown in the pic) and they seem to be consistent in churning out yummy Japanese ramen eggs! The egg was well marinated and the yolk was the perfect semi-solid golden orange.

Pan-fried Black Pig Gyoza

Pan-fried Black Pig Gyoza

Honestly I can't taste the difference between normal pig and black pig haha, but anyhow the gyozas were pretty good! I thought it looked a little small but it turned out to be ok. The filling was nice and juicy and the skin was thin so it didn't taste super starchy. However I would have preferred if the base was pan-fried till it's crispier.

Awesome food :) Smile Dec 06, 2014

Was craving for some steak, and we saw that they had a set lunch which had steak as one of the main course options so we decided to give this place a try!

Their 2-course set lunch was $25++ for an appetizer and a main course. There's also a 3-course set lunch which includes dessert, but I don't remember how much that costs. Their weekday set lunch options for this week was either chestnut croquette or clam chowder for the appetizer, and duck burger, salmon or steak for main course.

Clam Chowder

Clam Chowder

I got the clam chowder, which had a generous amount of clams! There were a few clams in every mouthful of soup that I slurped up - the most generous I've had compared to the clam chowders I've had at other restaurants.

Steak

Steak

I got the grass-fed steak (can't remember the cut and the weight) and it was sooo tender and soft. I chose medium rare and it was done perfectly. It was really easy to cut and chew, it was really good. I also liked the diced tomato and onion salad that you see at the top right hand of the photo. The only bad thing about this dish was that they served the steak with goma/Japanese sesame sauce, which overpowered the steak. However I simply shifted the steak to a clean part of the plate and problem solved smile

The service was also pretty good. I liked that one waitress came to check if the steak was done the way we like it shortly into the meal.

Was super satisfied with my lunch and I thought that the amount we paid ($29.50 after GST and service charge) was really worth it for the kind of quality of food that we got!

Spending per head: Approximately $30(Lunch)

Superb Aburi Salmon! Smile Dec 04, 2014   (Related Review)

Aburi Salmon Sushi & Ikura Sushi

Aburi Salmon Sushi & Ikura Sushi

YUM. Aburi Salmon Belly Sushi is my weakness and theirs was an absolute delight! Just before they served this plate of sushi, while they were torching the salmon, the smell of the seared and slightly charred salmon filled the entire restaurant. That smell was so appetizing and made me so eager to get my food! Taste-wise, the salmon was soft and sweet and the amount of rice was just right so that it didn't overpower the taste and mouthfeel of the fish.

As for the Ikura sushi, it was definitely good too. But nowhere as mind-blowing as the Aburi Salmon Belly Sushi lol
