Mini Yam Milk Tea Smile Mar 06, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

Was walking past KOI today after lunch when I noticed their promotional board, advertising their mini yam topping! I'm not sure if mini yam topping has always been available or it's new, but anyhow, I was attracted to the board because I like yam!

I got the normal milk tea but instead of pearl, it was the mini yam instead. I find that sometimes the sweetness of the milk tea varies even though I always order 50%. This time, the sweetness was just right for me smile. The size of the mini yam is about one third size of the normal pearl. It was chewy with a nice subtle yam flavour. Will probably order this instead of pearl next time smile

Though a little pricey, I still occasionally purchase some items from Central's takeway counter for my tea break as I love how the ingredients have soaked up all the soup and flavours after being simmered in it for so long.

The takeaway counter is located near the entrance of the restaurant, and you can see sticks and sticks of different ingredients simmering in the soup (original/mala). My favourites are the radish, and pig skin. Radish and pig skin are known to really absorb the flavours of whatever soup/gravy they are immersed in, just like a sponge! Hence I love how each time I bite into the radish and pig skin the soup will ooze out lol This time I also tried their sotong ball, which turned out to be average. They also have quite a number of sauces for you to mix in but I've never tried them as it's good and flavourful enough without any sauce.

I really love the salads and wraps from Sumo Salad! It's the place I go to when I'm looking for something healthy yet delicious to eat. What's more, the staff always try to stuff as much salad as possible into the container till it's full to the brim hence it makes me feel like it's really value-for-money tongue

I usually get the smaller portion with 2 kinds of salads, but this time I was feeling a little hungrier hence I got the bigger portion where I can get 3 kinds of salad. I like their thai vermicelli and veggie salad so I got those 2 again, and for the cous cous on the right it's my first time trying it out.

Thai Vermicelli: The dressing for the vermicelli was very light, so it’s not very Thai but I still like it as everything tastes clean and light on the palate. Other than vermicelli, there’s also julienned carrot, chicken slices and coriander.

Veggie Salad: Their veggie salads are always tossed in dressing beforehand so they always absorb the flavours and do not have that really raw vegetable taste. This salad came together with capisum slices that was cooked till soft beforehand, hence it was nice and sweet, and soft creamy pumpkin and avocado cubes. The taste is really great lol

Couscous: The couscous also came together with capisum that was cooked till soft beforehand. Couscous is actually some kinda wheat/semolina substitute for those who don't want to eat rice/pasta. It was interesting and not bad and the 'grains' are much smaller than rice.

My sister was in the vicinity so she bought back some cakes for us from Cake Spade! smile I'm a fan of cheesecakes so I chose this slice for myself.
Brownie Bottom Cheesecake

Brownie Bottom Cheesecake

Cake Spade's take on cheesecake is slightly different from the normal cheesecakes. Instead of a biscuit base made of digestive biscuits, this base was made from brownie instead. It was nice and interesting but personally I still prefer the normal digestive biscuit base.

The cheesecake itself was really rich, cheesy and creamy. It was really really good and if you like your cheesecakes to be really rich and cheesy, this is the one for you smile

Nice and affordable French food Smile Mar 03, 2014

Everyone knows that Saveur serves decent French food at affordable prices, and of course I'm not gonna miss out on this great deal!

I ordered the Duck Leg Confit for myself and the Foie Gras to share between 2.
Foie Gras

Foie Gras

Where else could you get foie gras for $7.90?! The pan-seared foie gras was soft, delicate and oily - a little too oily my for liking, but nevertheless nice and oh so melt-in-your-mouth. The 2 pieces of duck liver were served atop creamy lentils accompanied with pickled pearl onions. This is definitely a great starter and extremely value for money! lol
Duck Leg Confit

Duck Leg Confit

I've never had duck leg confit before hence I don't have a benchmark. But even then, I knew that this was good, especially for a price of just $12.90! The duck skin was crispy and the duck leg was tender and came apart easily. The mashed potato was soft and creamy.

This is definitely THE place to go if you're looking for nice and affordable French food! smile
