Mont Blanc OK Feb 18, 2014
Categories : Bakery

It was my dad's birthday and we were looking for something that's light on the palate, and fruit cakes are very common hence we decided on the Mont Blanc.

The Mont Blanc is essentially vanilla sponge cake layered with whipped cream and chestnut filling, topped with chestnut cream. We bought the smallest cake (480g) which serves 6, for $36. I felt that the sponge cake was kinda dense and dry. The level of the sweetness was just right for me. I don't think there's anything special about their Mont Blanc and will try out their other cakes instead next time.

Tender and smooth frog legs! Smile Dec 16, 2013

For those living in the West, this is a good place to satisfy your frog leg porridge cravings instead of having to trudge down all the way to Geylang! Also, the good news is that the food is cheaper here! I remember paying $25 for 3 frogs and porridge for 2 pax at Geylang while it's just $20 for the same amount from this stall at Block 491.

It's my 2nd time here.. the first time we had the gong bao frog legs (frog legs with dried chilli) and this time we had the ginger & spring onion frog legs. Other than the fact that one is spicy and one isn't, the taste and looks of the 2 types are similar to me, where both pots of frog legs come in a thick dark salty sauce. Personally I prefer the gong bao frog leg as it had more of a kick. I also found the ginger & spring onion version a tad salty. Either way, the frog meat is really tender, smooth and kinda bouncy in a good way and the meat comes off the bones easily - super duper shiok to eat! smile Even though we ordered 3 frogs to share among 2 of us the two times we were here, the portion seemed a lot more the 2nd time. Maybe we will just order 2 frogs in the future.

This is the pot of porridge that was served to us, the portion was just right and the porridge was really smooth. It was a little tasteless on it's own but it was not an issue for me as I like to mix some of the lovely sauce from the pot of frog legs into my porridge, and the result is an even smoother and tasty porridge smile

This place is definitely worth a try for frog leg porridge lovers!

Hokkaido Ramen in Pork & Seafood Soup Base

Hokkaido Ramen in Pork & Seafood Soup Base

I'm really picky when it comes to ramen because I find that most soup bases are too thick for my liking hence it gets jelat very quickly for me. That's why I like Tampopo's pork & seafood soup base. I find that the seafood helps to lighten the taste hence I don't get sick of the soup. I actually drank most of it whereas at other restaurants I usually find that I've to force myself to finish the food because of how jelat they make me feel. The ramen was also good - springy and didn't taste starchy. I also added an egg (not shown in the pic) and they seem to be consistent in churning out yummy Japanese ramen eggs! The egg was well marinated and the yolk was the perfect semi-solid golden orange.

Pan-fried Black Pig Gyoza

Pan-fried Black Pig Gyoza

Honestly I can't taste the difference between normal pig and black pig haha, but anyhow the gyozas were pretty good! I thought it looked a little small but it turned out to be ok. The filling was nice and juicy and the skin was thin so it didn't taste super starchy. However I would have preferred if the base was pan-fried till it's crispier.

Nice Ambience, Good Service Smile Nov 29, 2014

It's my first time at Sun with Moon and after thinking long and hard about what to order, I decided to get try their Kamameshi (steamed seasoned rice) because it's not something that I've seen at other restaurants.

Before talking about the food, I just wanted to share that the restaurant was really spacious with nice decor, and the ambience was really nice. Service was also great - the waiter who took our order was really friendly and funny smile

Aburi Seafood Kamameshi

Aburi Seafood Kamameshi

My Aburi Seafood Kamameshi consisted of salmon roe and seared prawn, scallop and salmon cubes. Hidden within the steamed rice were ingredients like chestnuts. It was alot like bamboo rice to me. Personally, I did not think it was nice...it was very ordinary to me, though my friend liked it. I will be back to try their other food but won't be ordering their Kamameshi again.

Yummy Ice Cream! Smile Nov 26, 2014

Categories : Ice Cream and Gelato

We wanted to go to Sunday Folks which is just down the road, but the queue was really long, so we tried our luck at Daily Scoop instead. Daily Scoop was really crowded too but luckily we managed to get a seat after waiting for a while.

Coconut and Earl Grey Ice Cream

Coconut and Earl Grey Ice Cream

I decided to try some flavours that are not commonly available elsewhere. Wanted to try their Chai but it wasn't available, so I got their Coconut and Earl Grey flavours instead. Both flavours tasted exactly like how the original food/drink tasted and it was a pleasant surprise. The Coconut ice cream had coconut bits in it too! I really enjoyed their ice cream and will definitely be back for more smile
