Nice Char Kway Teow! Smile Mar 22, 2014
Categories : Malaysian | Food Court

This char kway tiao ($5) stall has the longest queue when we were there! We went to queue as we saw the person at the table next to us eating this and we were tempted! It was quite a long wait as the queue was really long, and there are customers in front who buy more than one plate. As the kway tiao is fried upon taking orders, we have to wait quite a while, but that also ensures we eat them fresh and hot from the wok. This char kway tiao is quite different from the local style char kway tiao that I always eat in hawkers, in the sense that it is not using the dark sweet sauce, so the colour is not black too. It is light and not too salty, and I like the kway tiao which is shimmering with taste. The prawns are fresh and big too, not too bad! One of the stalls that is quite nice at the Malaysian Food Street. Maybe, they should review on the waiting time, I mean ultimately there will be queues, but how fast moving it is matters too, for some may not have the patience to wait and go to other stalls instead.

Tasty Noodles! Smile Mar 22, 2014
Categories : Malaysian | Food Court | Noodles

This Lor Mee stall sells lor mee and bak chor mee. Since we were already queuing, I presume it would be better to buy both items, and I never tried this stall before during the many times I visited the Malaysian Food Street.

My lor mee ($5) was a bowl of thin bee hoon, as the person told me only have thin bee hoon left. The thin bee hoon is able to absorb the flavours of the thick and fragrant broth. I like the ingredients inside especially the pork belly meat. The broth was tasty and not salty. Good choice!

The bak chor mee pok ($5) was also a great choice. The bak chor mee is only available in mee pok, no other choices, which I wonder why. It tasted great after mixing the generous portion of bak chor, meat and mushrooms with the well seasoned mee pok. There are also meatballs in the soup. The mee pok is flavourful and springy with the QQ feel! To be frank, this is really quite a nice bowl of bak chor mee.

Nothing like the KL Wanton Mee  OK Mar 22, 2014

Categories : Malaysian | Food Court | Noodles

During my staycation at RWS, we settled our meals at the Malaysian Food Street for quite a few times since that is the only "foodcourt" there, the rest being all restaurants and cafes. This wanton mee ($4.50) is obviously nothing like KL wanton mee which I have tried before. But, to be fair, even without comparing to KL's, it is nowhere close to any other wanton mee in Singapore's hawker centres. The point is, I can find nicer wanton mee in hawkers at a cheaper price. Of course I expect the price to be high, afterall, this is a resort catered to tourists, but no excuses for the taste, it's not even nice!

The noodles disappointed me, I could taste the "jian" taste in the noodles, which I hated. The char siew are thick and juicy and the wanton was nice too, but I really didnt like the noodles. If the noodles of a bowl of wanton noodles is not nice, who would want to finish the noodles despite the ingredients being not bad, mind you, noodles is the main essense of this dish isnt it?

Nice food, Expensive Drinks! Smile Mar 22, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Café | Desserts and Cakes | Ramen

We were there at 6pm on a weekday evening, and since there was no queue (happy!), we decided to have our dinner there. The place look really nice and comfy to chill but sadly only two of us couldnt get to sit on their comfy looking sofa seats which is for a bigger group. Anyway, it was our first time there so was quite excited to try the food.

Being green tea lovers, we ordered the Hot Matcha Latte ($9). I feel it is quite overpriced for this small cup of matcha latte which I can finish in a few sips. But it is really nice, thick and powdery, and I could feel the real matcha taste in it, warm and satisfying! I love it!

I had the Fuwa Fuwa Hoshino Souffle ($15.80). True to its name, it is soft and fluffy, and beneath the fluffy souffle is hot and pipping delectable rice with mushrooms, pork and beef. The waiter told us that all their rice dishes contains beef, if you strictly cannot take beef, avoid the rice and go for the pastas. I don't usually take beef coz I dont like it, but as I wanted to try this Fuwa Fuwa Souffle, I went ahead to order. Anyway, it wasnt too bad, and just a few pieces of beef isnt too beefy either, so it is acceptable. I like the rice, its warm and tasty, real comfort food to me.

My friend had the Lobster Bisque Spaghetti ($16), and it was a very large serving. I tried a bit and it was quite nice, strong lobster taste of the soup and spaghetti. My friend like it and finished every bit of it! We were quite full from our mains, so we had to skip dessert.

As we have not met up for many years and had a lot to chat, we were there from 6pm till about 930pm. I was afraid that they would chase us after we finish our meal, coz we could see queues forming at 7pm. But to our delight, they did not chase us and allow us to sit and chat even after we finish our meal, but well, we still had our drinks with us. Service was quite good too, and they were very diligent in refilling our iced water! So we had quite a pleasant experience on our first visit to Hoshino. The things here are quite pricey especially their drinks and desserts, so I may think twice about coming back again.

Still as good as ever! Smile Mar 21, 2014

Categories : Hainanese | Restaurant | Chicken Rice

Have not ate this chicken rice for a long time ever since it stop operations at Novena Ville. Was at United Square last week and so it gave us a reason to settle our lunch there. It is the first time I visited the United Square outlet, a big and aircon unit. Had to wait a while for a table cos the place was full though big! It is weird given that at their former Novena Ville outlet, the place was much more smaller with fewer tables, but we never have to wait for a table there. And, we had to share tables here too.

Anyway, we decided to order the steamed white chicken for 2 pax plus rice, instead of the 1 pax chicken rice which is $4.80, an increase of $0.80 (used to be $4 at Novena Ville), I presume it is because of the now air conditioned premises and that it is now at a shopping mall instead of a coffeeshop. The chicken for 2 pax ($8.50) is actually a quarter chicken, and we ordered two fragrant chicken rice at $0.80 each. (Plain white rice is cheaper at $0.50.) Love the rice as usual, so fragrant and fluffy. And the quarter chicken is more than enough for the two of us, smooth and tender, so yummy! Satisfied!

The place now also sells other dishes other than chicken rice, just like those dishes found in zhu chao stalls. So, it now is another place to consider for dinner if you want something more than chicken rice!
