Chinatown Food Street

Chinatown Food Street

The new and refreshed Chinatown Food Street now welcome all visitors with specialty local dishes from the 4 different races in Singapore. Located on Smith Street, which is the heart of Chinatown, the look create the most authentic Singapore dining experience for locals and tourists .Iconic food such as satay to hokkien mee from all local cultures are all situated at one street which is convenient for all.

Visitors now can enjoy al-fresco dining style along the street. New high-ceiling glass canopy shelter and cooling system allow diners enjoy themselves fully on the food available here regardless of rain or shine. The street hawker stalls operate as an ad hoc street kiosks with full cooking equipment.

Crispy and not very oily. Big fat Oyster is fresh and not stinky. Long queue for this stall but i do not find this dish worth queuing.

Black version is sweet, not over cooked but be prepared to queue as there are alot of customers for this stall. Take note to order and pay for your food first before queuing.

Moist and tasty. Broth is flavourable and taste of prawn. The noodle really soak up all of the prawn broth making this dish very delicious. recommended for this dish.

Drink stall - Expensive drinks sold here. Sugercane sell at $2.50 per cup, isnt this expensive??

Opening hours: daily 11am -11pm
As a local, i strongly do not recommend this place here as there are really alot of better stalls and better quality food out there. The quality of food here is really not worth the price as the price is really steep. But for a tourist, this place is where you can really taste a variety of well-known food in Singapore. Rather than travelling all around Singapore just to have a taste of local cuisine, come here and tour around, it may have what you have been looking for.

D.O.C is located at a quaint corner of Duxton road with no fanciful signboard or clear glass panels, whereby one would not notice this cafe if you are just passing by this street.

You would be greeted by strong waffle and coffee aroma as you pull open the door panel.

Display of cakes, pastries, salads and main dishes at the counter. However, the available space to walk is really limited, sometime there is a need to squeeze through horde of people crowding at the counter.

Chocolate waffle taste normal with vanilla ice cream and strawberry toppings. Does not deliver the quality as expected for the price paid for. It was crispy on the outside but i find it not moist enough on the inside. Maple syrup was provided as well. This dessert is too sweet and good to be shared among more than 2 person.

Chocolate fudge within waffle, unlike usual waffles with chocolate sauce drizzled on top of waffles. There is a layer of chocolate in between the waffle. This make the waffle really chocolaty.

Smoked salmon, poached egg and ham stacked on top of soft English muffins with salads at the side. This is a new item on the menu but does not worth the price. Serving was little and the smoked ham was overly salty. Smoked salmon was good and goes well with the muffin.

D.O.C certainly makes good coffee. I enjoyed every sip of the coffee.

D.O.C is one of the list of cafes in Singapore which does not charge GST, however its dishes are pricey though.

This is one of the popular cafe hopping destination for many, but i find this place overly raved and did not meet up to my expectation though i visit this cafe with a hungry stomach.
Be prepare to wait for at least 15mins if you did not make any reservation before going. Walk in to this cafe is really not the best option you are making. In addition, i feel that there are sub standard while doing reservation too. Sometimes you are allow to make reservation on the actual day of visiting but sometimes you are not allow to do so. This is even true after i heard some of the staffs advising the customers on this matter.

Restaurant style food being served in the heartlands. Del' Bistro is located at Blk 107 Serangoon ave. What i cant believe is they actually serve risotto here and it actually taste quite good. There are a vast variety of food for you to choose at reasonable pri

Prawns, squid and mussels are cooked in this tomato based rice. The risotto is cooked with creamy consistency and taste delicious. Cream sauce is poured for more creamier taste. Recommend to try.

Same cooking style just that the ingredients are beef slices instead

Beef patty is not freshly made, its machine made. Nothing exciting about it. Normal burger with a piece of cheese and beef patty.

Giant size of chicken and pork chop with your choice of sauce, either mushroom or black pepper. This is very worth it considering the price and the size of the meat. Both chicken and pork meat are tender and juicy, no sign of overcooked.

You may be thinking why is this asian dish being recommended here since i am introducing western food. Well, there is a zi cha stall beside Del' bistro, same owner thou. A large piece of stingray and an egg. Very very delicious and worth the money. The sambal chili is spicy and sour, lime is provided. Stingray is juicy and fresh. Yummy!

All mains come with side dishes like fries, mashed potato or garden salad. Consider the price and location, it is really worth the price. What i really like is the mixed grill and the risotto as i find them really tasty and i wont get tired of eating it over and over.

Shiok Maki and Sashimi bento OK Mar 24, 2014

I heard and read so much about Koh Grill & Sushi Bar, so decided to drop by during evening time when there is no queue. Located in Wisma shopping mall, beside food junction, the restaurant is already almost full when I reached there at about 5.15pm. As the restaurant is abit small, seating is limited too. By 6.15pm, there is already a lot queue, hence it is better to come here during non peak hour. I heard so much about this restaurant Shiok Maki, wondering how good can it be.....

Teppanyaki preparing and cooking

Chef preparing the plating of the food. With the wide range fish meat in the freeze bar, I really tempted to try all of them.

I was seated at the counter bar, leg platform was available so I feel comfortable when eating. However, i feel that the staff can pay more attention or be more understanding as i was carrying alot of stuffs with me and there are empty 4 seater (2 table combi), they could have ask me to take a table instead.

Bento menu - available till 6pm only. Highly recommended Bento J - consist of sushi and sashimi
($4)

($4)

Considering the price, i find the amount of skin is really too little. The taste is bland, only sprinkler of salt by the side. Other than taste, the salmon skin is really crispy, feel like eating chips. Really disappointed and not worth the price.
Sushi and sashimi with a mini udon

Sushi and sashimi with a mini udon

Bento J - Sushi and sashimi with a mini udon. Sashimi consist of 3 pieces of swordfish, salmon and tuna each. Sashimi served are thick and juicy. Salmon and tuna taste fresh, however, the swordfish taste abit powdery, maybe not fresh as I do not taste such texture before when I ate at other restaurant. Sushi consist of maki, salmon, yellowtail, tuna sushi. Nothing really fanciful or attractive.

($16.90)

($16.90)

Their famous shiok maki, version 1 consist of unagi while version 2 consist of shrimp. Mouth watering presentation with alot of roe and cheese. First bite, give you a soft and melt in you mouth feeling. Totally fascinating!! The unagi really is soft and smooth, with the combination of rice and ingredient, the shiok maki is very delicious. However, the more i eat, the more i find it too creamy. Cheese and mayonnaise combination are too much to handle. Overall, this dish still taste not bad.
($10.90)

($10.90)

A small piece of saba fish and 5 pieces of salmon sashimi. Worth it? I think a bit overprice. For a guy like me, how will i be satisfied with just a small piece of saba?

Service can be better, the number of staff during peak hour is about 4-5. But the service is slow and I was asked to be prepared to wait for at least 15mins for my food during non peak hour? Not sure if this is a standard procedure as i do not see any waiting ordering form on the sushi bar.
Taste of the food is disappointing, except for the Shiok Maki. The rest of the food is just disappointment.
I guess it maybe a hit and miss restaurant, sometime good and sometime bad.

One of the stall located in Ang Mo Kio centre market, this is among my favorite duck dish places. From duck rice, duck noodle, duck kueh tiao to kueh chap and duck meat sets , price range from, $3.50 onwards. From the rice, to the duck to the sauce. The duck rice is really very tasty. The braised sauce is fragrant and the meat is soft and tender. Braised peanuts are included in most of the dishes too!!
The queue is usually very long as the stall is operated by old couple, hence be patience if you really want to try very delicious duck dishes.
($3.50)

($3.50)

Highly recommended dish. The duck meat is fresh and tender. Very thin layer of fat between the skin and the meat. The Kueh tiao is smooth and bean sprout are added too. Importantly, it is the broth that make the difference. The broth is thick and tasty, you have the option to choose either to add chili or tomato sauce. Both variety give different taste. I will suggest to take the chili version if you like spicy food.
($3.50 / $4.50 with Duck meat)

($3.50 / $4.50 with Duck meat)

One of the best dish here, the kueh chap consist of pig skin, intestine, braised tau pok, pork meat, braised tau kee and peanuts. If you want to add duck meat, additional $1 which is worth it as the duck is very delicious. The sauce also enhance the ingredients flavour. Not so thick but tasty.

Large variety of food - Braised Duck, braised egg, tofu.... etc

Self serving on the braised sauce and chili
I like the duck meat here and the food and price is reasonable here. Only service is abit slow. But who care if the food is nice right?
Try it if you drop by here.
